This is my response to an email i received at my website - "I have been using a Respironics REMstar Pro C-Flex+ AutoIQ with a System One Heated Humidifer for one month now. I do not notice the water in the Humidifer getting warm at all. My CPAP provider said that the unit senses when to heat the water depending upon the humidity in the room. Is this true or is my unit not working properly? I did read tonight about a preheat feature and will try using that tonight to see if the water gets warm.
Your videos have been very helpful and easy to understand. Great job!! I would recommend your site to anyone using a CPAP whether they are a new user or have been using one for a while."

Thank you! This tutorial was great! do have a newer Philips model and have obtained a length of heated tubing. However I wanted to tell your viewers that when I had significant rainout recently, I fashioned an insulating wrap with some fabric I had on hand. I happened to have a 2.25 yard length of a soft cotton knit (pajama weight). This kind of fabric is "naturally curly," so a 6" wide x 45" long piece will be easy to form around the tube and secure with rubber bands. Rudimentary but entirely effective. NO rainout! You can of course buy the insulated wraps -- they are not expensive.

Thank you so much! My spouse has this in the old 50 series. It does not have the preheat feature, but turning the system one settings finally got the plate to warm up!! Only the 60 series has a heated tube upgrade feature, so I'm gonna get on my sewing machine today and make an insulated sleeve. I can't wait to show him when he gets home today! We're saving for a ResMed S9 with the heated tubing and still gotta few months to go. This will help so much in the mean time. BIG HUGS from us!!!

Very useful, and now I get it. No one showed me how to use it, and the instruction booklet was not much of a help. Thank you. First time last night, I slept with no interruption.

Yes, this video helped. I turned off my sys1 settings and now my humidifier heats up. Thanks!

There are some after-market heated hoses that can be attached to this with their own independent power supply. This can save you from having to exchange out your machine.

Yay! It is 3 am and my sinuses are burning from dryness. So glad I searched and found this. I am on vacation so I don't have NeilMed sinus spray that I use when this happens, now that I have turned System One off, I hope I will never. Have this burning again!

I thought it was broken! Giving me blasts of cold, dry air at 4 in the morning! Winter is coming so the nights are colder, but the machine turns off anyway! >< I always have it set to 5 too, which is curious since when I first got it 5 would drown me but I gradually had to set it higher. Going to try that bipass tonight. I hope it works. Didn't know about preheat either. Thank you!

thank you for this video. I can finally get the air heated in my Bi pap mask. my bedroom is not heated until I go to bed and turn on the heater in the room. I'm in Iowa and its cold in here and the mask was blowing cold air in my face and robbing me of body heat.

When this unit is set at "4 or 5" the air/humidity becomes rather "cold" to the point that I awaken. If I turn the setting to a "2", the cold air stops & I'm to fall back to sleep. I have since asked my physician to order the heated tubing.

I have this same clap machine but I can't get it to preheat or even get the indicator light to come on unless I'm actually using it. I'm waking up in the morning super cotton-mouthed. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks.
    Response:
    1. The DS460 and Ds560 models can do it. (any model number ending with 60 has the capability to preheat the heated humidifier.)
    2. You most likely are opening your mouth when using a nasal pillows or nasal cpap mask. You would need a full face mask. Hope this helps.

Oh thanks! I have this and my water tank is empty when I wake up and my mouth is dry. I have the strap to keep my mouth shut but it is still dry. I will try these settings. Do they make a bigger water tank?

I think that your video on the Philips respironics humidifier was a bit harsh I have used one for about a week and I found it worked very well in the UK there was no rain out like I have experience in the resmed s9

Hopefully you're still answering questions. :)
I have the Respironics machine, but my humidifier is not working. When I turn the humidifier knob to any number higher than 0, it starts beeping and a symbol (shaped like steam coming up from water) to the left of the knob flashes. If I don't turn off my machine, at some point it will shut itself off during the middle of the night. The only way to avoid this is to not use the humidifier at all. The problem with that is that I need the humidifier because, like everyone else on here, the cold air dries and burns my sinuses.
My questions are: have you heard of this issue before and is there a way to fix it yourself? I'm trying to see if someone else has had this issue and whether or not they were able to fix the issue themselves as I just recently lost my job/health insurance and can't afford to buy a new machine at the moment.
Thanks for any advice you can give!!

      1. You have a 2 year warranty on the CPAP and Heated Humidifier starting from the day you received it. Get it exchanged or repaired.
      2. Call Respironics directly at 1-800-345-6443. Ask them what you can do to fix it.
      3. I understand your predicament with the job /insurance …...Worst case scenario is to buy a replacement Heated Humidifier online. It should cost between $120 to $220. Buy one that fits your CPAP.
      4. As a matter of fact you may be able to buy a new CPAP with heated Humidifier for around $300. It would be a lower end model but it would do the job.
      5. Use Saline Nasal Gel (Example the Ayr brand) and apply a coating of that inside your nostrils to hydrate them. You can get these saline gels from your local pharmacy. Use them while using your CPAP until you can resolve this humidifier issue.
      6. Many, many, many home medical equipment companies have used CPAP machines and heated humidifier sitting collecting dust on their warehouse shelves. Try to negotiate a deal with them.

cpaphelpdesk....thanks for the quick response. :)
after i posted my question to you, i looked around online a little longer to see if i could find anything about the issue, but had no luck. so i ended up calling the home medical company that provided me with the CPAP machine. they said the same thing you did regarding the machine having a 2 year warranty (i thought it was just a 1 year warranty), so my machine will be covered since it's only a little over a year old.
thank you for all the helpful info; i'll keep it for future reference. and thank you for the tip about using the saline nasal gel. did not think about trying that, but am definitely going to do so until they repair my machine.
keep up the good work with the videos!!
      ~~ a new fan :)

If the water tank is empty does that mean its bad?.

    • @cpaphelpdesk
      @cpaphelpdesk  10 лет назад +3

      It means:
      1. Your CPAP heated humidifier is working.
      2. You have your heater setting set on the high side and it is using up all the water. The higher the number…..the hotter the heater gets and you will land up using more water. You decide what that heater setting should be set on based on your needs. Start at setting number 3 first. If you are feeling dry, then go ahead and raise it to 4 or 5. ……...……or…..
      3. You room temperature is on the cooler side and causing your heater to run continuously throughout the night, thus you end use up using all the water……or…..
      4. You did not fill it up with enough distilled water.
      5. Make it a point to check on your water level on your humidifier if you get up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom…to see if you need more distilled water. Just add more if need be.
