The manufacturer clearly does not recommend it but that never stops many people from doing it. If your machine is newer and depending on the model...you can preheat it. Press the On/Off button down for 10 seconds and see if the heater comes on. I hope this helps.

l have the Phillips Respironics system one... and I can preheat it plus I have gotten a lid for it because my lid was making a sound everytime I breathe in and out so I went to eBay and gotten a lid for it and I ordered a Heated hose for it I can't wait to I get the Hose :-) I called the place where I get my Cpap supplies and they told me the heated hose would cost me $64 but I got it for $25 on eBay and it should be here next week. I had to get a Door/Cover .they said it would cost ME $200.00 for a humidifier but I gave $56 for a humidifier door and $25 for the heated hose. I think God that it didn't Cost me $200.00 God Bless you and your family

Thanks for the info. I actually thought my humidifier wasn't working until I saw this. My water level was barely going down at all on setting 5 & I have been waking up with the worse dry mouth ever. I think setting that feature to off should fix it.

Also, The newest ones allow you to use the heated tubing now and they even can connect to an app on your cell phone.

I'm getting upgraded from a CPAP TO A BiPAP TODAY. I HOPE TO GOODNESS THAT IT IS NOT A RESPIRONICS BECAUSE I NEED WARM AND ACCEPTABLE HUMIDIFICATION. RESPURONICS SUCKS BADLY! ResMed may do much better nim very nervous.

On mine you can press the big round button down while therapy is highlighted for 30 seconds & that turns the preheat feature on. It'll beep one time if you have the sound feature turned on, and the humidifier light will illuminate.

Even though the humidity in my bedroom is pretty constant, the amount of moisture I get from this humidifier varies wildly night to night Some mornings the tank is nearly empty; some mornings it is nearly full. I live in a dry climate, and am not getting enough humidity with this machine. I have nose bleeds some mornings from the machine's dry air. I have it turned up all the way to "5", but have noticed no difference whatever no matter whether it is set to "2 " or "5". The machine supply place is of no help. They have only a traveling respiratory therapist who is there briefly every few weeks, and who does not help once you get the machine.

How much water is used based on.
      a) The CPAP heated humidifier setting. The higher the setting number, the more moisture you will get. Thus use up more water.
b)Your room temperature at night. The colder it is..the more water it will use up. The heater needs to run more frequently just to maintain the temperature and humidity level in cooler temperature rooms.
      c) Actual hours of use. The more hours you use the CPAP the more water it will use.
      d) Try pre warming the distilled water before using the CPAP. Your model might be able to do this. Ask the Home Medical Supply Company or call the manufacturer directly to talk you through it.

maybe try turning the "system one" feature OFF so the heater works under your control ,not by the sensors.

Truthfully I don't know. I know it is not in the clinical menu (unless it is hidden in another sub menu). Give Philips Respironics a call..... 1800-345-6443
