Return to Honor
Director: Don McDougall
Writer: Jack Turley
Stars: Lorne Greene, Pernell Roberts, Dan Blocker
Genre: Western
Country: USA
Language: English
Release Date: 22 March 1964 USA
Filming Locations: Stage 17, Paramount Studios - 5555 Melrose Avenue, Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, USA
Storyline:
Ben gets word that his nephew Will has been murdered in nearby Pine City. As it turns out, Will has been shot and wounded while on the run from a counterfeiting gang that wants back the engraving plates Will has "appropriated" from them.
Reviews:
"Guy Williams makes the first of several appearances as visiting nephew Will Cartwright who's something of a roving vagabond. The problem is he's roving with the wrong crowd at late and in fact Lorne Greene gets a wire from a neighboring town that Williams has been killed in a gunfight.
Like Mark Twain though, the rumors of Will Cartwright's death are greatly exaggerated. He's playing dead because Arch Johnson wants him dead real bad and Williams switched identities with one of Johnson's gang. It's not just Williams being six feet under that Johnson wants. He's got an item on him that Johnson wants back very badly.
Williams stayed on for a few episodes and he and Pernell Roberts have a spirited rivalry in the future for the hand of one Virginia City girl. It's Williams who gets her later and rides into the sunrise with her. Otherwise she would have been another female fatality that always happens around the Cartwrights." Guy Williams is a great actor as Zorro and John Robertson.
Thank you these episodes aren't zoomed, or have timers this is wholesome tv.
The music is a suspense builder in each dangerous position. Bonanza is so good at making the music tell you what’s coming. Helps tremendously w/the plot.
Music is Magic, mind altering, which can be manipulated.
Why is there laughter piped in with sitcoms like Friends?
To tell us it's OK if Joey sleeps with another girl and doesn't call her. Brainwashing
Love this series and it’s use of back lots and sound stages. And great guest stars and always a moral to the story. Hollyweird today couldn’t hold a candle to these gems.

To be fair, the Hollywood of the 60's and earlier was just as corrupt and disgusting behind the scenes as it can be today - look up what happened to Shirley Temple etc.
@Boo Boo. I agree!
@@yellowblanka6058 You're wrong!
@@lynettepalecek3141 All evidence would point to the contrary, but go ahead, delude yourself into believing “casting couch” bs hasn’t existed since the dawn of Hollywood.
Guy Williams (1924-1989), originally from a Sicilian Family in New York, was spectacular and fun in Zorro (1957-1959). In 1964, he was among the best possible replacements for Pernell Roberts, who wanted to leave the show, at that time. Pernell changed his mind, and stayed another year, so Guy was dropped, a big mistake, because Pernell did leave a year later, and Guy was no longer available to come back as Will. After doing Lost In Space (1965-1968), Guy Williams retired in Argentina.
It's hard to believe that the actors are all gone. Very hard to accept.
Time waits for nobody.
That grand finale shooting saved for the end is awesome. All the bad guys die! Guy Williams became a legend, as well.
One of the best scenes of the entire series, the setup was screenplay artistry at it's finest, hope the DP got recognized
No, not all of them.
NO all the bad guys didn't Die ! 1 just got shot in the Hip ! LOL 😂
Mr. Ben Cartwright couldn't had a more handsome nephew. Guy Williams. Wow! Hello Zorro!! Great episode. Thank you very much.
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for tuning in! 🤠👌🎬🍿
Madeline Ray yes he is one fine handsome man plus I think Ben Cartwright is handsome as well.
I don't think he good looking at all in fact I don't think any man with a mustache is good looking
@@donnaharris6607 Pernell Roberts was better looking than Guy Williams.
The true, old ZORRO is back! The movie must be cool.
Will Cartwright is the son of John Cartwright Ben Cartwright's brother. Will is also the cousin of Adam Cartwright, Eric"Hoss" Cartwright and Joseph"Little Joe"Cartwright. He's also Muley Jones's great cousin. And Jamie Hunter-Cartwright's adoptive cousin. Cartwrights are Cartwrights. It's just part of Ben's big extended Cartwright family.
smooth talker; soft speaker; soft-spoken; for a posse; rough and rugged country;
All the horses are very well taken care of, and I wondered what it would have been like to have another good looking Cartwright to add to this gracious and beautiful family. More interesting troubles for us to enjoy, ha?
Wish cousin Will and half brother Clay could have made occasional guest visits.
Will WAS on at least one more episode.
@@watchgoose Will was in 5 episodes. Then he got the role of Zorro.
Miss clay
Clay and Will are actually not related. Clay is Little Joe's brother not Adam and Hoss's brother. And how the connection with Clay and Little Joe is. Little Joe's mother Marie Cartwright was Ben's third wife and Clay's mother too. That's how Clay and Little Joe are related to each other. Because they're brothers through their late mother Marie Cartwright Ben's third late wife.
He did.
Love Adam's smile warms me inside thank you so much for showing all the wonderful episodes so many wonderful memories ❤

One thing's sure about these producers and creators they sure found get proud, and good looking, attractive gent's to act the roles in their production's.

Buck is his name, cause of the buckskin color
Yes I loved his horse.
I recognized Guy "Zorro " Williams too . He also was on " Lost in Space " .
Nice to see Cousin Zorro drop in. The bit about the fandango was hilarious.
Ended like a Western. Also, that doctor was pretty laid back, or perhaps very understanding.
He was smart, he did his job, and gave good advice, I'm sure he lived a long life with his mentality
Little Joe Always Saves The Day!!
After all, there's a saying blood is thicker than water, 👍👌😘🥰😍⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Guy Williams was added because Pernell Roberts was leaving the series (Roberts was an respected stage actor). But then Roberts decided to come back, and the Will character was phased out.
Originally Guy Williams was to play Adam Cartwright!
A Great exciting episode with Zorro Guy Williams and Robert J.Wilke. ⭐

This is the episode where Pernell Roberts-lookalike Guy Williams steps in as Will Cartwright, Ben's nephew, with a view to replacing Roberts, who had already announced he would be leaving the series. In the end Roberts stayed on as Adam for another 30 episodes or so, while Williams went on with his career elsewhere. Very good episode. Thanks for sharing!
I wish Guy had stayed. He fit into the Cartwright family!
Guy Williams should have stayed on the Ponderosa. He left and got "Lost in Space".🤣
Will left with Adam's Fiance
@@hannablue7038 There are stories that Michael Landon sabotaged a long term Guy Williams connection. Who knows the depth of this, but with Roberts leaving it was an opportunity for Landon to further 'grow up' into the leading man.
@@mwilliams1330 that's interesting but there were supposed to be three sons and when Pernell left it just wasn't the same. Landon was talented and went on to write and make his own show. We blame actors for leaving but it's their life and maybe they aren't happy with thier job. I feel Pernell didn't appreciate or realize that he struck "gold" with the show. When he left his other show never interested me. I love Guy Williams!
👍👌👏 Another great episode. Thanks a lot for uploading and sharing this old series.

Enchanting. Thank you for letting me see.
Now if Dr. Smith was with Professor Robinson he would have turned them in. Great episode thanks for sharing.
Lol no doubt, would've tried to make a deal with Butler
Would have been a hilarious spoof lost in space episode to see them travel back in time to an opposite Ponderosa. Evil Ben and company dealing with Smith, lol
Will cartwright, Lost in Space!!
And Zorro!
"Professor John Robinson", lol..
These actors back then were really talented. They had to know how to ride horses, beside plane acting. Lessons were given to those who didn't know how. The so called actors of today have nothing. Their empty, evil and paid by very bad people
You paint with a very broad brush.
Great program Bonanza ❤
Very good final showdown. One of the better ones.
Ben's nephew Will Cartwright(Guy Williams) the son of Ben's brother John Cartwright and Adam, Hoss and Little Joe's cousin.
All our horses had nosebands.Weren't they popular in the 1860s or was it just rider preference?Ben's tack is something special.
Great episode, like they all are. Pity Will didn't stay on in the long run. Still think Adam is the hottest..💓💓

Love bonanza, takes my memory back quite a few years. However, has anyone noticed how clean the streets are. With so many horses, I would have thought the film makers would have made them more realistic.
Funny you said it but , there are a few episodes with muddy streets.
Also I only recall one episode where a toilet was mentioned. It's the episode " BLESSED ARE THEY".

Great improvised music. Too bad Guy didn’t join the team permanently
There were plans to have his character replace Adam, because Pernell Roberts was thinking of leaving. However, Roberts decided to stay another year, so the producers married off Guy Williams' character.
@@gregford2103 what a spoilsport Adam was then 😁
This episode of Bonanza starts out really quite, but pick up the the pace and evey exciting to the end.
The gun fight was almost as satisfying as the one in Open Range.
Lol This is the old west where pistols and rifles mostly shot the same freaking bullet
Guy Williams is Quite Smart
Now that was a western shootout
13.12 Did I see a spark of recognition in Ben's eyes?
Anyway, good acting.
Guy Williams, Zorro, acted in five chapters with great success. He was hired to fill in for the announced absence of Pernell Roberts. But this, perhaps moved by jealousy of the immediate acceptance of the character played by Williams (he played a cousin of the Cartwright brothers) decided to stay another year in Bonanza. When Roberts left for good twelve months later, it was too late to bring the former Zorro back.
Love bonanza
What's Going On? This is an American Show that was designed as a learning and spreading of Love, Justice, Virtues, Good Values, and times past. Why aren't Americans Spreading this Love Out? I certainly do. We Need a Re-run, Re-boot, Re-invested Production of Bonanza!!!
Just when I thought those Cartwright boys couldn’t get any handsomer!
I have so many comments about this movie. About the title; Return to Honor. How fitting !!!, About the the way Hoss’s horse watched Hoss when he walked away from him, like “there goes my man”, And at the end : Five Cartwright men standing tall together and last comment: It’s hard for me to see Robert J Wilke in the role of a good man. In a Bonanza movie 🍿 I watched before he played a dispicable man who was the caregiver of a man in a wheelchair 👨🦼The man was the husband of a beautiful and caring woman 👩 and Robert J Wilke was doing a fine job of making everything she did and everyone any man 👨 she talked to looking suspicious. However, the Cartwright’s stopped him just as he was about to get the husband to turn everything in his will to him instead of to his wife. 😊😊
I do love bananza im really hope to see all plzz thanks for loading it have over 400 and some.
Has anyone ever counted the number of people that the Cartwrights killed over the entire series? 🤣
thats a great idea. there is a book series that I love and I found a guys blog on it. he does stats for each book and of course for the entire series. he kept track of kills, what cars and trucks were named, how long it took the main character to call the female interest "darling" etc... doing something like that for all these shows would be great. its too bad that so much of the things they used on set were stock because it would have been interesting if they had been allowed more variation and choices.
I saw a stat on it on a fan forum once. Little joe's body count would amount to mass murder.
Do you remember how many of those men, supposedly murdered by the Cartwright family were good men? How many were, workers, families men? Do you remember how many of these men were quietly sleeping at their beds or maybe taking care of their homes and families, when suddenly one of the Cartwrights came in to kill them? Just curiosity.
Just as intriguing is how many times the Cartwrights were shot, and the times they had a noose around their necks. Those men just could not stay out of trouble.
Butlers men were trained for shooting at the Intergalactic Academy for StormTroopers.
Will was being considered as a replacement Cartwright being that Perrnel Roberts was not happy in his role. Michael Landon did not like the idea of adding more cast members so Will's character was not developed.
When they lost Dan it was over anyway,Will could have been an exception...who knows.
Pernell threatened to leave after season 5 so they brought Guy in to replace him. Pernell ended up staying on for season 6 and then they wrote Guy out of the series after his 5th episode.
Michael Landon didn't like the idea of adding another handsome cast member more like. That came out.

That kind of shooting Will Cartwright just did is the kind gun shooting a Cartwright shoots. No man could shoot a gun like those Cartwrights can. And Will definitely proved that when Jenner tried to shoot at Will but instead Will shot Jenner dead. It's like when men are fist fighting each other. The rule of that is wait until the man takes the first punch then other man finishes him off. Same with gun dueling. When a gets his gun out and aims to shoot at the man he's trying to shoot at ends up shooting back at the guy who got his gun out first. And shoots him dead. That's what I mean. Wait until a man draws out his gun first and shoots well tries to shoot and then the other man gets his gun out and shoots him to the ground. And that's exactly what Will Cartwright did to protect himself. He shot Jenner out of self defense only because Jenner was trying to kill him so Will did what a Cartwright does in self defense.
Poor Pa. He's bringing the devil to The Ponderosa!!!
This guy thought he would took the place of Adam and even the place of THE PONDEROSA'S PRINCE ( Little Joe of course) and after he would become the star of BONANZA He was lucky someone offered him the role as The Zorro. No one another Cartwright is necessary. Not this one. Neither the Little Joe's drunk half brother. BONANZA FOREVER
He was Zorro before Bonanza by 7 years.
@@marksanto1086 Yes before BONANZA. But he didn't get anything good after have been Zorro. His character as Clay, Little Joe's half brother, was really a disgusting one. My very personal point of view.
@@daysyperez5103 I don't know what makes you hate this man so much, but he didn't even play Clay. That was Barry Coe.
@Hilde Bos Good evening, miss Bos. Thanks God I can still tell Barry Coe from Guy Williams. What I wanted to say in my comment is that both ( Coe and Williams) were looking for the same in BONANZA. Luckily neither of them got it. Have a nice week.
@@daysyperez5103 You are of course entitles to your opinion. Guy Williams was a very talented actor. He did not think anything, he was offered a role and it did not materialize. Williams made great investments and retired to Argentina, and lived quite happily and adored in that country.
Big big Cartwright’s. Don’t mess around with them. 👆👆👆😵💫😵💫😵💫
The Lost in Space dad as a bad guy?? Nooo!!
Disney's Zorro as well!
I love a good old shootout but I think Butler could have employed some better shots lol.
They might have been good shots but their mistake was exposing themselves from shelter
The Cartwright men drinking coffee from those somewhat delicate cups always strikes me as just wrong and makes me smile. Hard to believe they wouldn't have had some mugs on hand with decent sized handles to accommodate a man's hand.
Ben had 3 deceased delicate wives, had to give the boys some of their memories. lol
Will Cartwright the nephew of Ben Cartwright.
Yeah, we know. They mentioned that in the episode.

If the commentator of this episode was talking about the spoiled rotten brat Laura that was interested in both Adam and Will, that wasn't a rivalry. Adam came to his senses and found out what kind of woman she really was plus he knew that she was interested in Will and not him. She didn't deserve either one though.
I know it was TV but when Ben used his range boss voice you felt as if he was a man that was used to having his directions followed and quick! The Cartwright's are terrible at using cover in a gun fight though.
Adams girlfriend or friend also played hoss love interest in tall stranger
Without a doubt, it was Pa, the only Cartwright who knew how to raise correctly his boys. Because this nephew and cousin Will paid with treason the love and trust he was offered in The Ponderosa!!!
I understand why Will wants to be alone. I wouldn't live with my uncle and cousins just because I've become an orphan. A person can't live alone but living with your relatives isn't wise. Besides, being alive here on Earth for a long time, who would ever say that's a blessing? Nobody wants to have anything to do with old people. I'm sure I'm wrong. There are some angelic people out there.

Does anyone else think that little joe sounds just like Michael j fox?
I love the talk between the doctor and Ben. The doctor is on to everything but he's a good man. Great episode. Fantastic shoot-out ending! That was the best hair style for Joe. His long hair on little house just didn't make it for me.
I’m constantly fascinated with the guy drawing first but seems to hesitate and gets killed. It could be the editing but...

The producers let the actors run things and ran him off. Then they still had to find an Adam replacement 3 years later - Candy who, like Will, brought some much needed action to the show.
Todas las películas de me gustan
6:38 how’d they bale those bales back then? 😮
They should have kept Will on the show even when Adam changed his mind to stay. He would have added something to the show.
At 3:38, the actor could have done a better job of playing being dead. He kind of helped Wil by moving his right arm after de died.
What should have Joe done in that situation? In 1860 would it be legal for him to shoot first? Or 1960 audiences wouldn't like that? Silly that Butler lifts his gun because that guarantees that he gets shot by Joe in self-defense. If he stayed cool, he would simply remind Joe that there's a gun trained on everyone one of his family members, so if he shoots then most of them won't make it out alive. Butler could tell his men to keep their eye on their mark and to shoot if any of them move. Joe reminds Butler that he'll never get the plates if he kills Will. Butler then calls to the guy on the roof to shoot Joe. Joe can risk death by taking time to shoot Butler, raise his gun to shoot the guy on the roof, or hide, with mayhem breaking out any of those choices.
Alternatively, instead of shouting, Joe could have tried a distraction by sending horses out of the barn, or throwing something from the roof. I think that it would have been most interesting if Joe crowed like a chicken or something, which causes Hoss to look up. Joe gives hand signals to Hoss and they arrange to move on a count of three but three is a gunshot. Joe aims at the gun or shoulder of Butler. Hoss quietly tells Ben & Adam "Don't look up. Dive when you hear Joe fire. Joe aims, raises finger 1, finger 2, grips the gun and fires, blowing the gun out of Butler's hand as his brothers dive and pull their guns. After the gunfight, Will hands Butler the plates saying "We were on our way to give these to the Sheriff but I think we can let you have that honor." Then the Cartwrights all laugh as Butler unwraps it and sees the bullet holes.

What game are they playing?
Little Joe and Hoss (Eric) are playing "Checkers"! Little Joe's double-stacked game pieces are "kings" which allows them to move in any diagonal direction. Hoss' last piece was "unkinged" meaning it could only move diagonally forward.
Little Joe has Hoss' piece surrounded! If Hoss moved his checker, Little Joe's pieces would "jump over" his and remove it from the board - winning the game!
