  • This is Kacee's first time watching reaction to the movie Casino Royale (2006). James Bond (Daniel Craig), a member of the British Secret Service, travels to Madagascar after acquiring a license to kill. There, he discovers a connection to Le Chiffre (Mads Mikkelsen), a financier of terrorist groups. When MI6 learns that Le Chiffre intends to play high-stakes poker to raise money, they send Bond to compete against him in the hopes that their newest "00" operative will bring down the man's organization.

Casey is on point about the whole "he's heartbroken, he'll never trust anyone again." This movie was conceptualized to be about the birth of "the persona" of James Bond. We see hints of it throughout the film---the womanizing, the rizz, the swagger---but Vesper was that glimmer of normalcy pulling him away from that. When she broke his heart and died in front of him, there was no going back---he fully became 007. The music is a great queue to all this. Throughout the movie, whenever he's doing 007 things, you don't hear the iconic James Bond theme; you hear the movie's theme song ("You Know My Name"). It's only at the end, when he's fully accepted his role as 007, together with the delivery of the signature line "Bond, James Bond" that the famous instrumental stinger comes in.

Pierce Brosnan was the Bond of our childhood. GoldenEye was such a huge part of our lives, the movie and the game. We were skeptical of Daniel Craig initially, but he took 007 to a darker place entirely. Casino Royale was a gamble that paid off in every way.

    Historical fact.
The guy Bond is chasing at the begining of the film in Madagascar is Sebastien Foucan, along with David Belle he created the technique known as Parkour.
So that's obviously why the Parkour scene is so awesome, because you have the OG himself playing it.
If you want to see David Belle doing Parkour, just watch the French film Banlieu 13 by Luc Besson that came out in 2004.

by far the best of the craig bond series. the cinematography is so good, really captures that old-world beauty and mystique of europe. and i love his very grounded version of bond. behind the charming exterior there’s a very tragic deadness to him. terrified of love, functioning alcoholism. makes perfect sense with his upbringing and how what essentially a human weapon for the state would actually be like. M telling him “then you’ve learned your lesson” after he states he doesn’t trust anyone is so perfect for this iteration of bond

Yeah it's the only Bond where there is some plausibility to the character. He is a government hitman. Being a hitman is not a happy man's job, it would take a toll on you. Even if you think you're doing the right thing. Craig is the only one who acted that part realistically. Craig was also the only one who looks the part (intimidating man of direct action, in other words, a killer). It makes other Bonds seem like boyscouts and childish cartoon characters, with their cheeky quips and smiles. Some people want their Bond that way because they are used to it, I prefered this darker take on it.
I think the success of Bourne movies might have affected Bond too. Bourne made old Bonds look ridiculous (and they are, even if they are charming-ridiculous) and the producers & writers of Bond took note of that

    • @daedalus2097
      @daedalus2097 Год назад +2

@@shredd5705 Yup, it probably owes a lot to the Bourne movies, but at the same time this Bond is closer to the Bond of the original books than the goofy stuff the earlier movies are famous for, and at that time many movies and franchises were going for the gritty, dark and more plausible approach too. There's less gadgetry and cheese in the books, more of a broken, unhinged, jaded shadow of a man that's slightly past it, a functioning alcoholic who survives because of a combination of his massive ego, luck and not caring about whether he lives or dies. Casino Royale really really does a fantastic job of Bond's origin story, setting Craig up as close to the Bond of the books as you can get in a modern setting.

They even flip the scene where Bond asks for a martini and the bartender asks if he prefers that shaken or stirred and Bond retorts with a "Do I look like I give a damn?" showing how he has yet to acquire the finer taste he's known for in other traditional Bond films.

So eventually, they had to set up like a small ramp

Reboot is the best word for this movie. Daniel Craig's 5 Bond films make up one long story chronicling Bond's entire career. Also, the reference to Bond not giving a Damn how his martini is prepared IS a joke, s you thought, but it's also an indication that this is still early in his career at MI6. This job and the lifestyle he has to portray is still new to him. All the most famous Bond tropes get sprinkled through the Craig films little by little. Bond's preference for his martinis being shaken, not stirred is introduced in a later film.

Maybe the Oscar Academy is afraid that it would encourage people to do death-defying stunts to try to top everyone (of which, some would end up in actual death) so they don't want to be responsible for that. Sometimes stuntmen injure themselves or even die

Guys good show! I appreciate Kacee's first watch and her first take of James, she hit it right on the money! You guys should definitely watch each of the others. Anthony, if you don't recall too much, you haven't watched them in depth and really need to. Now especially with Kacee, but, (spoiler) they totally continue on the same story line and you will have to pay close attention as they give you bits and pieces as you go. Thanks Kacee for keeping the romance part in this. Enjoy!

Yes, Casino Royale is a reboot of the James Bond franchise. After the series had become overwrought with over-the-top absurdity (Bond ends up driving an invisible car and windsurfs on a poorly-rendered CGI tsunami caused by a space laser), critics and audiences responded negatively. So inspired by Christopher Nolan's Batman Begins, it was decided to reboot the franchise, stripping away the silly gadgets and bombastic special effects to tell Bond's origin story of how he became 007. In fact, the movie's shooting title was "Bond Begins."

Mongoose are the furry animals known for fighting venomous snakes, and usually winning. The "Bodies" exhibit was the one they showed in the Bahamas, but they were probably the bodies of Chinese political prisoners, so it gained a lot of notoriety over the years.

I loved this movie. I’d recommend people who haven’t watched any Bond movies to familiarize themselves with the older movies or at least the concept of Bond (running jokes, storylines, suaveness, feel of the movies) before watching the Craig Bond movies. Or, if you’ve already watched them, look at the older stuff and then come back to Craig. There are SO MANY references, details, jokes based on what has been published. If you want to dive deep, read the books, but I don’t think that it’s necessary for the older movies and while Craig’s Bond is closer to Fleming‘s Bond (and there are some direct quotes), the callbacks are mostly related to the movies.

    Great Reaction.......
Kool that you started Kacee with this movie, When Daniel Craig assumed the role they treated it as a "Soft-Reboot" for the series, keeping Judy Dench as "M", a role she we already playing....
Although each movie has it's own mission, there is an underlying Sub-Plot throughout the Daniel Craig Bond Movies.
Earlier Actors/Directors that played the role "Tweaked" the character to suit their acting/directing style (Campy/Serious/Sly), I believe there are 25 or 26 total Bond Films.......

as many have probably already pointed out:
that's a mongoose, it's kept as a pet in many asian countries, as it's usually the predator/killer of snakes/cobras, instead of having a "guard dog against people coming into their homes", they have a "guard mongoose against snakes/cobras coming into their homes"
I'm pretty sure it's not immune to the cobra's venom, but it has such lightning fast reflexes and speed, that usually it's the one that kills the cobra (I forgot what big cat, maybe a leopard, that also has such lightning fast reflexes and speed, that can also take on poisonous snakes, even as a cub, with their mothers watching them, lol, as they just move and react to fast, the "poor" poisonous snake is helpless, unable to land any bite/strike/"hit" on them, lol)
(there's an old short, presumably disney but maybe not, cartoon movie-film called "rikki tikki tavi", that us older generations saw and learned of mongooses from it, laughs)
actually, it's right here on utube, if you wanna watch it: ruclips.net/video/TK35A5IHB3Q/видео.html
(err... it's just frame shots and audio/sub reading, it's not the actual animation-movie-film of it, unfortunately, but I just did a quick search... maybe you can find the actual animation-movie-film of it on utube... or elsewhere... lol)

At the beginning of the movie with the bomb maker, they were watching a cobra and a mongoose fighting. Which isn't a fair fight, because the mongoose will win easily. The next movie, Quantom of Solace is a direct sequel, same characters mostly, and continues along the same time line. It also explains more of Vesper's backstory.

Mongooses are, I believe, a member of the Martin class, closely related to weasels. [EDIT: Apparently, 1) 'Marten' is no longer used as a taxinomic order (to differentiate from the genus), and 2) mongoose are far more closely related to hyenas (!) than weasels, also meerkats are their only close cousin.) They are famous snake killers, especially when defending their young. High speed videos are really impressive.
