Tie-dye pattern : American Flag | 4th of July | Independence Day (Geode Heart Star!)

- Today I am demonstrating how to tie-dye a American Flag pattern on a tapestry for the 4th of July. To celebrate Independence Day we are making out Tie-dye tapestry with geodes for the stars (not all 50) and a special heart geode inside.
To begin I first draw our outline on the tapestry of where the geodes will go and then I pleat fold and sinew that section off. From there I pleat fold all the way down the tapestry and tie up bundles of the material with sinew leaving about 4" in between them to represent our 7 red and 6 white stripes. Once the tapestry is all tied up I move on to applying our liquid procion dye to the tapestry. I let the tapestry batch for 24 hours, give it a good rinse, and jump straight into the reveal of our brand new Tie-dye American Flag with geodes tapestry.

***Before working with procion dyes or any kind of fiber reactive dye please make sure to pay special attention to all labels including directions, warnings, and first aid instructions***. I highly recommend gloves, eye protection, and a respirator or dust mask per these instructions.

Well thank you!!! I really appreciate you saying that. I have learned from some Tie Dyers who came before me but a lot of my projects are my own. Once you do this for a little while you kind of can see how things will turn out (not always) so it makes it easier going into it. But to answer your question I just think of cool things I’d like to see or suggestions that others might like to see and go from there😊💜

I think that the fabric you just used in this would make a really pretty wrap dress .. Add like a ribbon sewn in a teardrop shape or C shape or Handle shape (or horseshoe shape) to the middle to use for a neck hole and tie it in back or on the side or use 2 ribbons sewn in a C shape for arm holes at each top corner and wrap around then put your arms through the ribbons

Thank you and you definitely could! I actually did something similar with bleach for the stars before or you could even paint stars on with fabric paint for a more realistic vibe. How can I keep indigo and red dyes from bleeding? I am really struggling to perfect my technique with these two colors as a combination. I am using Rit dyes and soaked them in soda ash prior for 25 minutes before dying and left them to sit in their bags for 48 hours. I rinsed all four shirts totally clear individually and I added them to a bucket with 1 cup of salt, 2 cups of white vinegar, and three gallons of water to set together after they had been rinsed. I then put them in the washer together since they were all the same exact colors and ran it on cold water delicate cycle with a low spin, and I ran it three times. The first time the Indigo and red bled together making the white areas light lavender. The second time the red is the one that bled with a pink color in the areas that are supposed to be white. What am I doing wrong? Is the only thing that works best for you the Dawn dish soap? Everywhere else told me to do the salt and vinegar soak and include it int he wash. The first time I tried using Rit's dye fixative. Especially would love to know your advice on how can I fix items that have bled? Thank you.

I’ve actually never used ludigol but i have used dawn for my white a lot and it works so great! ☺️💙
@@RiahsTieDye Are you only using the original blue Dawn, or a different kind? I can't use the original blue one, so I use the orange. But I usually wear gloves when I'm rinsing the dye out, so shouldn't be too bad. I'm willing to try new things! :D
