Hi and thank you for your question. So use 4oz bottles with 1tsp of dye powder typically. When I am going for a pastel look I only use .5 teaspoon or sometimes even .25 if the color is very strong like powerberry or lime pop. Hope this helps😊💜
How can I keep indigo and red dyes from bleeding? I am really struggling to perfect my technique with these two colors as a combination. I am using Rit dyes and soaked them in soda ash prior for 25 minutes before dying and left them to sit in their bags for 48 hours. I rinsed all four shirts totally clear individually and I added them to a bucket with 1 cup of salt, 2 cups of white vinegar, and three gallons of water to set together after they had been rinsed. I then put them in the washer together since they were all the same exact colors and ran it on cold water delicate cycle with a low spin, and I ran it three times. The first time the Indigo and red bled together making the white areas light lavender. The second time the red is the one that bled with a pink color in the areas that are supposed to be white. What am I doing wrong? I have been reading that Indigo and Red dyes can be the tricker colors to set. I am a big fan of your RUclips channel and wanted to see if you would do a video about it, or perhaps respond with some tips. Also, how can I fix items that have bled? Thank you.
Well I’m not super familiar with RIT dyes because I personally don’t like them but the first thing you could do is make a thickened dye which I can link a video down below for you. Also if you don’t want to do that…after you rinse your projects out you should soak them in hot water and dawn dish soap for at least 20 minutes, drain, rinse, and repeat until the water they are soaking in appears to be clear. I would do one shirt at a time as well. For washing, I always wash on hot because it’s the last chance for the dye to set and heat really does that, it also gets the rest of the excess dye out ☺️ I hope that helps!
So awesome, it turned really good! And so I have a question will the dawn dish still help keep the white parts white on the tie dye even though I didn't use soda ash?
Thank you so much! So the soda ash is a dye fixative and will make it so the dye chemically reacts with the fabric . Without it your colors will mostly just wash right out unfortunately. But to answer your question the Dawn will definitely still help😊💙
@@RiahsTieDye me too 😂 lol I just did a patriotic 4th of July tie dye and I hope it turns out good and I'll definitely do the dish soap soak for the shirt. Can I use any kind of dish soap?
