    Blackmagic should make their own external SSD and/or SD cards to solve the confusion with storage solutions. RED does this for a reason. These cameras are for indy film makers so it blows my mind why they don’t make a 16GB-64GB non-removable internal storage in these cameras as a backup or even a cache before actually writing to an external solution.

    • @RealWorldReview
      @RealWorldReview 2 года назад

      A 1TB NVME drive costs $100 for a normal person to buy. Wholesale pricing will drop that. Put it near the fan, add $500+ to the price of the camera, and allow no company to compared because idk anyone that offers internal storage under the $5K price point

    • @MartinAaberge
      @MartinAaberge  2 года назад +1

      I like the idea of an cache and custom SSDs. Shooting with a RED is quite comfortable. Would also be nice to have something that doesn’t occupy the USB-C and hangs around on the outside of the camera.

    • @chris_tierney
      @chris_tierney 2 года назад +1

      @@MartinAaberge "Shooting with a RED is quite comfortable." - have you SEEN what RED charge for their storage modules?
      All we need is a second , dedicated USB-C port for the drive so that the other USB shenanigans like control modules can work.

    • @MartinAaberge
      @MartinAaberge  2 года назад

      Good idea. The RED Komodo shoots with CFAST so that’s easy to work with. Angelbird makes the RED branded storage and accessories for RED and they cost the same as a non-branded one at least :) easier for us normal people :)

    The T7 has limitations in terms of higher resolution and extended recording duration. It is prone to unexpected shutdowns, and synchronization issues between audio and video may occur. Consequently, the T7 is best suited for shorter recordings and smaller-scale projects. Furthermore, I encountered an issue when using the T7 with the Blackmagic 6K Pro. While recording in BRAW format for an extended period, the device abruptly stopped recording despite the available storage space.

    I picked up a T7 today, intending to use it for an old old MacBook I have which I wanted to back up the files on. I had heard the T7 didn’t work with the P4K (etc), so I figured I would give it a try as I still have a P4K camera (which I have not updated since before covid). Worked fine shooting BRAW for me….
    So I guess I don’t get what everyone is complaining about? What is it that doesn’t work exactly? Is it that they don’t all work? Do they drop frames or something? Would love to know as I may just toss it into the camera case along with all the T5s I have for that damn camera. And perhaps I’ll start shooting with it again. It’s actually a badass little camera for the money.

    • @MartinAaberge
      @MartinAaberge  Год назад

      At one point it depended on the firmware. I was not able to shoot on firmware X, but Y worked. Some people have reported that it can’t sustain speed and fills up a buffer. I spoke to Samsung and they could not confirm that the buffer case is true. I guess we will just have to do some long 30 min + shots and fill it up to see if it’s possible to record the whole drive full.

    The only thing I have heard is that the T7 overheats, lowers performance and will in turn drop frames. Even is controlled temps. I do not have a T7 but I do have a 2TB NVME drive paired with a Sabrent external that gives me over 1k read and write speeds and awesome editing performance on a computer (as well as sustained speeds on Blackmagic Disk Speed Test), as well as a "!" and dropped frames out of my 6K Pro. (I have not tested this since the 7.9 update though.)

    • @MartinAaberge

      Thanks for your input. I just got an ACASIS 10-in-1 hub worth NVMe enclosure. Way faster write speed. I plan to empty my T7 material over to the ACASIS drive and film 4K Q0 till it is either full, overheats, or starts dropping frames. That should stress test it a bit. My tests so far has been really short clips.

      BM wouldn’t have enabled the S7 if they knew it would fail under the highest settings. They likely had to test the SSD and optimize the update before releasing it because the S7 wasn’t designed for high sustained writing with its smaller buffer. This means the camera might still be using its own buffer (if it has one) in combination to the T7 buffer to make sure every frame is written, even after you stop recording in which there might be a delay before you can playback.
