I have the Gh3 but I like to test start making short one person plays with a cinema camera, either with P4K or the OG on my own, if even possible without anyone pulling focus for me?! I want to create cinema and not digital video... what do you think? do I have to get a camera with continues auto focus or can I set the focus pretty wide and deep and get a good and clear image? thanks for getting back
Good questions. So...I act in front of my BMPCC4K all the time (while running the camera). If you look at the short scene example "THE GOLD" on this channel, you can see such. Regarding your questions, you need to learn more about exposure and lighting. So let me say it this way: It's not about the lens or any of that. It's about exposure, focus, aperture and shutter speed (for cinematic motion blur). What I'll do is get my light to a point where I'm able to be at an F-STOP that gives some depth of field, which will allow me to stay in focus, etc. Then I'll have an extra tripod to put where I'm going to be, and then set my focus. Also make sure I'm at a 1/48 shutter (or 180 degree shutter). Once that's done, you're golden. If you don't have enough light and you're wide open on your lens, then yeah...it's not gonna work. Watch this lesson for starters: ruclips.net/video/4hMc2nNz054/видео.html. And here's an example of my rig to pull focus and dial in exposure with a middle gray card: twitter.com/writedirectfilm/status/1648327377221500930/photo/1
I've removed the rubber covers on the side of the camera by firmly pulling on them. They were removed without damaging them. They were always in the way and removing them was definitely a benefit. If needed, I will find another solution to cover the unused ports. One thing that comes to mind is PolyMorph plastic pellets that are melted in hot water and then shaped to form a cover of any design in minutes. PolyMorph can be re-used many times, simply by re-heating it in hot water. I use two fully adjustable MagicRig handles attached to my camera cage. The top one uses a quick release NATO rail system and the handle is adjustable forward or aft but I leave it in the middle. I have a Lilliput A5 field monitor attached to the front hot shoe portion of the handle. The second handle is also fully adjustable but has the additional feature of an ARRI swivel gear so that I can rotate the NATO rail attachment 90 degrees to form a vertical left hand handle for my rig. The bottom of my camera has a Zhiyun quick release that I use for either a Manfrotto tripod, monopod or folding three leg base. The three leg base can fold down to form yet another vertical handle directly underneath the camera cage. This gives me four handles to hold the camera from the top, bottom, left side and right side. It is a very cool setup. My battery solution is a Makita cordless tool adapter with a DC-DC buck converter that accepts 15-40VDC input and a steady 12VDC output. I have a large collection of Makita cordless tools, so this system allows me to use the batteries for my camera rig or my tool collection. The Makita batteries have a power indicator on them, so I can always see the charge state. I have a quick charger to keep the batteries in a proper state. The buck converter accepts a minimum of 15VDC, so the batteries never become fully discharged. For lenses, I use the Rokinon 10mm, 35mm, 50mm, 85mm and 100mm macro. I also have the 7Artisans 35mm f/0.95 and the Astrhori 50mm f/1.4 tilt lens. These are all very affordable lenses. I have another collection of high end lenses for my Olympus EM5 camera but at this point in time, I only use those for the EM5 camera. For storage media, I'm using a 1 Terabyte Samsung 970 EVO Plus 'NVMe SSD' in a USB enclosure. For $135 CAD, I have a very large and fast media solution that won't break the bank. This media storage is less expensive because it's mass produced for the laptop and tablet market. If you are unaware of this media, search Non-Volatile Memory Express on the internet. If you go the same route, make sure that you initialize and format the card using exFAT prior to connecting it to the camera. I also have a Zhiyun Crane 3 LAB gimbal for my rig, but I'm working on a DIY version of the ARRI Trinity. It is absolutely amazing.
i have this set up! i love the NP-F battery on the rig. how long does each battery last (12v)? Can i rely on a video shoot for NP-f Batteries (having a couple extra to switch out) or do you recommend another method to have long term power? Thanks!
I haven't timed it, but have had ZERO issues running NP-F batteries. Just finished production on a 30-minute short film. Multiple locations. Long days. No battery issues...but I do have at least 6 extras as my monitor and field recorder run off them too. Also took Watson chargers to location as well. That let me keep things charging when needed.
I would definitely get the ball head. Will save you so much time versus traditional setups. My manfrotto tripod and ball head handles the weight of my camera package totally fine. If you’re trying to make movies versus just DP, my online film school will help you a lot. I’m finishing up the final courses so the school’s at a low introductory cost right now. @@writedirect thanks Ill do that! with ball head u mean one of manfrotto? @@andidelta9 fluid is for smooth panning. If you will be panning you def need that. But if you’re just using it for positioning, the camera, a ball head is where it’s at. It allows for any type of positioning without having to mess with the tripod legs as much.

The pocket 4K screen is not very bright. It’s fine and doors, but very faint outside. SmallRig makes a hood that you can put on to help that. If you swipe up or down on the screen the surrounding menu should come back.
7:10 I was trying this camera for the first time and when I turned the switch on, the monitor did not turn on. I did not know that I had to push and hold the button on the battery. I had no idea.
Hey! For some reason I'm not following. You shouldn't have to hold any button down other than just flipping on the power switch. But let me know if I'm not understanding! Thx.
@@writedirect my bad, my battery was not fully charged up so it just looked like I had turned on the camera but there was not enough energy to power up the monitor.
Nothing wrong with it! I like to put in the best to ensure there are zero problems. But if it’s an SD card on the BM approved media list for sustained 4K recording, you should be totally fine.
