For me, it's just the cartoony art style. I'm just not a fan of that particular aesthetic. No shade to those who don't mind it or who like it, just not for me.
I'm still mourning the loss of Ai Tactics from Origins. Companion AI can never be trusted and has only gotten worse every sequel. Inquisition's AI had me so irritated I said fuck it and finished the game completely solo. Had a much better time after I got rid of them. 😂🤦♂️🤷
I’m going to disagree with the lead comment in this thread. I did not dislike the combat from DA2 or Inquisition, but there were definitely many instances where needing to micromanage all of your companions during battle was quite tedious and disruptive to the overall immersion of both that particular battle and the overall gameplay experience. I have enjoyed the hybrid party-based combat in Mass Effect Legendary Edition, where your companions function adequately under AI control, but then you can also override the AI with specifically timed and directed commands, and that allows you to optimize your team’s approach. Granted, Mass Effect is a cover-shooter, and Dragon Age combat is 360-degrees wide-angle. So, it’s not apples-to-apples. Still, my point stands: hybrid AI/player controlled party combat can feel good, and in some cases has advantages over a more traditional full-player controlled micromanagement style combat.
My main gripe is with its presentation, not really the mechanics. Everything is just way too colourful with bright neon lights everywhere and it doesn't suit the fantasy style of the game at all imo. You've got the same thing going on with Avowed too, all those purples bro lol
These non gamer devs probably think that this is cool. Every move need to be some flashy backflip, casting spells look like baseball or something, characters ugly and lame. Qunari have skipped leg day, but not forehead day.
I really enjoyed Inquisition, so it being linear and not having control over companions is the only real concerning thing I see here, otherwise it looks pretty decent. Only real thing to worry about is Bioware, their recent track record isn't that good outside of the Mass Effect remake/Legendary edition. You can tell Cross doesn't have much experience with DA/Mass Effect games...not like chat has been telling him to play a certain series for awhile now, lol.
yes not being able to control allies is concerning, since in previous games it helped since the ai couldnt play as well as human in some parts. also we went from having 4 man parties now we only have 3 man party.
I agree , but I think they made the change for not controlling characters is to expose the game to new audience but according to Bioware they had gamers playing the game and they liked it that way. I am truly looking forward to the story. Waiting 10 years for this , and I will take it.
You're also watching an IGN mini playthru of it... They will turn on everything to make it look pretty and no turn off things to make to run better. Also watching the reaction of a video thru another video. The compression hell is quite real.
this looks so cheap for some reason not to mention how they changed the games aesthetics a bunch of times during its development i fear its gonna suck :(
Everything just looks so outdated... Combat seems really clunky, UI is straight out from a mobile game, the general graphics I would have expected maybe late ps4 era, and the style while subjective, imo doesn't look that great especially the monsters and characters. I hope the story and characters can carry
Man. The art direction of this is just not it for me. Reminds me of when Blizzard went from dark Gothic horror in Diablo to whatever cartoon-y mess D3 was.
It just looks too cartooney. Something about it, mainly the visual design and color pallette, aren't making me hopeful. In a world full of Elden Rings and Wukongs, a colorful and bright fantasy game with incredible story can definitely stand out. But this isn't doing anything with that idea enough to stand out. This game looks like it would be the same quality if it was visually darker.
Sometimes the pursuit of graphics reduces the budget for other things, and you have ten million, and you can build three of those very realistic scenes. But if you're willing to simplify, maybe you can build five scenes. If they have rich content, I don't mind if the graphics aren't that advanced
I think the fact people are like, "make the game more realistic" is causing people to hate this. I think people completely forget what PS2 games look like and they looked nothing like this. This is a very stylized game, which I think looks good. After Dragon Age 2, I think the need to change up the art style a bit without completely abandoning certain styles
The graphics are technically good, but they are soulless. Elden ring had terrible fidelity but the art direction made it beautiful. This shit looks a step above cell shaded. Infamous second son had better skin shading and light reflections than this shit. And that game came out in 2014.
@LobsterDeity as someone who played the borderlands series, I definitely am coming from a more biased point of view. I do love the style of games like Elden Ring, but I also believe that the cell-shaded art style looks good as well. I'm willing to give this a chance, but I have talked to a few people who won't try this game simply because of the art style. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, I just disagree, is all
@MrProdigy810 it just starts off with one. I mean, people were already saying stuff about that female qunari companion you get. The only downside to DA2 is that the face of the qunari all looked the same. If you showed me the qunari now, I'd be questioning how tevinter is in such a long war.
@@felwinterpeak1674 Are you saying they look bad because they look more human? I mean dragon age never really had fantastical design for is characters like the aliens in mass effect. All the other races basically look human with extra steps. What makes the qunari different from the rest?
We've seen 2 We havent seen a goddamn thing in regards to character creator, or other Qunari in the game The 2 we have seen have the same specific horn style Bull in DA:I didnt look like ANY Qunari previously, same with others in previous games
I think a lot of people's reaction to what we've seen so far is uncertainty, for both existing fans and potential new players alike. That doesn't exactly inspire confidence. I don't think it will be bad, but I do think its success will hinge on how good the writing and characters are.
I’m more excited just to continue the story the story feels like it’s gonna be a good one like how the inquisition dlcs were like I don’t mind the art style cuz like the elf looks really good
They're definitely going more cartoony compared to previous grittier titles, but the gameplay seems pretty decent and the set pieces they've shown off seems pretty awesome. I'm jaded from every large game company now so I'll wait for release, but I am fairly excited
Biggest issue for me is the camera and hud, I can't exactly put my finger on it, maybe it's the way this reviewer plays (badly) or it's something wrong with the game itself but it really did not look good to me. Also none of the dialogue sounded even remotely interesting, I'm spoiled from BG3 and Cyberpunk/Witcher 3.
I noticed that despite having a Lock On to enemy feature (the little red marks) it doesn't keep the enemy in the center of your screen, so your character is targeted to them, but not your camera so your character seems to attack the edges of the screen a lot.
"Changing its style with each installment".....Inquisition was where it all changed. Dragon Age II was terrible but the overall art style was the same. That all changed with Inquisition, they toned down the gore, changed the design of the desire demon and made all the women ugly on purpose.
I can’t fault Aztecross for his skepticism. After Mass Effect Andromeda and Anthem, there are valid reasons to be skeptical regarding BioWare projects. That said, Inquisition is/was a pretty good game, and Origins is a true classic masterpiece. I think it’s not unreasonable to be more enthusiastic or excited than Aztecross is about Veilguard.
Setting aside the various concerns about the developers woke ideology being injected into the game, the raw gameplay and the overall tone of the world seem goofy to me. Fans of Dragon Age have long been clamoring for a return to the series' roots, and I had really hoped this would be the game to achieve that. However, it appears to be just a generic hack and slash game with a veneer of RPG strategy.
Considering my experience with BioWare titles in the past includes Baldur’s Gate and its sequel, Mass Effect series, Knights of the Old Republic series, and Dragon Age series, I would have to give this a try.
I fell in LOVE with DA:O , DA:A, and DA:inq but I don't see or feel the magic that those games held, (I know inquisition wasn't a masterpiece but it sitll gave me the stakes and power fantasy). I wish them success but I'll keep my measly 70 bucks.
I just want to run around looking like the Arishok. Instead, we get humans cosplaying as Qunari. And reduction of party members. And a reduction in powers. And they took away party control. And they took away the tactical top down screen. They just took away everything that made Dragon Age, well, Dragon Age. It's like they copied Mass Effect's gameplay, except Mass Effect is a cover based, shooter. Warriors do not get to hide behind cover and throw their sword at the enemies. I'll wait on content creators to put out gameplay videos and reviews, because I am not trusting IGN. You know they will rate this game high, even if its terrible.
I want to love this game, I REALLY do... but ever "reveal" is "boooooom, FLARE!! BLOOM!!! PARTICLES!!! Hypersaturated colour explosion... "He's hitting us from range!!"". I can feel a migraine coming on after 20 mins of "reveal" footage, what will it be like after HOURS of gameplay. Not to mention the passive bloat and button combos (which are notoriously clunky on keyboard!!) making up 90% of the "incredibly in-depth skill tree". And FFS the "consequences" involving a game that apparently has "healing spells back in the game" leaving a companion all beat up for HOURS?? WHY DIDN"T THEY HEAL HER?! Where is this famous "Healing spells back in the game"?! 🤦 I want to love it, but the reveals are giving me whiplash 😔😔
I was cautiously optimistic when a new game was announced but it feels like everything they've shown sense then has made me less and less interested. Inquisition was so good but this game feels like a low budget MCU inspired knock off.
The art style is just weird, I liked both DA1 and Inquisition especially the latter, also the double horned race (forgot the name) is also looking weird, also I really don't like not being able to control the other companions
IMO it’s just the character models, physically they look decent but texture wise they look too smooth. The hair though my god it’s amazing, I haven’t seen any game that has come close to this level of hair physics. But other than the models if you look at the environments especially the ones from the environmental walk through videos released a few days ago where they use the camera to show off the locations in detail it is big step up from previous games and is actually quite impressive. I feel like if the game wasn’t so colourful and the faces weren’t so smooth and some of the enemy models were better then I think a lot less people would have a problem with the game’s visuals.
I'm mixed on the visual design. I think the map designs look pretty good, and I'm not as off-put by the general character texturing as others. I do, however, take issue with the general look of the Qunari and the visual changes they've made to the Darkspawn. Those things will matter to people, but I think what's going to be critical for this game is: How fun is it, how engaging is the story, and how impactful are our choices? I'm not going into this expecting BG3 levels of choices and decisions. I think it's partly easier for Larian to do that since the main protagonist isn't voiced, so you don't end up blowing up your budget and dev time on VA alone. That said, I'm staying in the skeptical camp on this one, as prior history with Andromeda and Anthem has made me quite wary. One thing I will say, even if some think it's unfair, is that I do think there's going to be groups of people online who will take any small slight in this game and turn into the biggest issue ever. In some respects, it is unfair. Criticism and skepticism is warranted, but I'm also not a fan of useless bitching either.
The gaming community has gotten pathetic. We almost accepted a trash game like outlaws into our homes and they won't even let a potentially good game make it to release week
One plus is they usually do is have an option to get rid of the numbers and enemy health bars. Idk how difficult it can be because I have always played the games for the story, and never played around on their harder difficulties. But the stories are pretty solid and can be fun.
I just want October to come. I’ve played 2 and Inquisition several times over the years, but I’ll be playing Origins for the first time before Veilguard. So exciting!
Idk why people assume massive copro companies can return to the Xbox 360 glory days of banners. Ubisoft, WB or EA lost their souls for gaming many years ago 🤣🤣🤣 They put product over the people 9 times out of 10. I bet EA doesn’t even remember the old Dragon Age games and it’s sad 😔
As a fan of the Dragon Age with hundreds of hours played in the previous games , this looks like a very easy pass. Might try it in a few years when it's in deep, deep sale.
easily the best looking da game by far. outside design preferences and gameplay is way faster and better animations that previous games. but its your choice, not sure why you dont like it, seems odd especially if your a fan. to new players it may seem mid since they arent into the lore
@@jaypey8253Yeah, lot of bizarre "I'm a fan" comments talking about passing on this game. Dragon Age for genuine fans has always been about the lore. Gameplay has changed from each installment
Way too many red flags in this. Gameplay, characters, graphics, messaging. UI looks like a mobile game to me. I also prefer the tactical style for these games like the old one, but maybe I'm alone there.
I think Bioware is acutely aware of the position they're in. I'd be more surprised if this Dragon Age game is trash rather than it being good. I think people forget (and Bioware forgot for a while) that they are best at delivering a story experience. I'll take a great story and passable gameplay over graphic fidelity.
The people that made those games are long gone. Very, very few remain. The last ten years were no accident. Red flags are plastered all over this game. It's in wait-for-reviews territory and very possibly wait-for-deep-deep-sale on top of it. That's assuming it isn't completely shit, which I would not care to bet against. The hair physics are outstanding, though. So there's that.
@@davefinfrock3324 If the game is not in a good position they wouldn't let people come and play the game. We will see on the 19th what they think. The people that write for DA:TV are all people that are their at least since DAI. So i don't fear for the story. MEA and atheme were different writer.
Dragon age 2 qunari was the best design, idk why they changed it. Dragon age origins darkspawn where way cooler too, same with the demons. I bet big booba desire demon won’t be in this game. Also the fact you’re not able to use blood magic because the devs felt it would make the mc “too evil” annoys me especially considering the amount of fucked up things you could do in these games examples - making a companion kill his sister in cold blood - killing a child - forcibly placing souls in golems to create soldiers against the blight - convincing a pack of werewolf’s to slaughter a clan of elves for the sake of revenge when you’re supposed to be helping the elves - killing a mage in the fade, effectively giving them a lobotomy - selling one of your companions (former slave)back to his master - releasing a possessed grey warden to reek havoc across the world in order for you to reclaim a fort - killing a companion after destroying an incredibly important holy relic which cures all aliments - executing and betraying a companion at the landsmeet if you pick a certain option for who gets the throne - participating/helping with the death of a grand cleric causing an uprising & the mages to be slaughtered - KILLING A SICK DOG THAT YOU COULD SAVE & HAVE BECOME A COMPANION. Tldr there’s a lot of evil shit you can do in dragon age, but suddenly using blood magic is too evil.. which in turns make me worried about what evil things you can do in veilguard.. if any.
To address Cross’ concern about the large-font damage numbers and immersion-breaking HP bars above enemy heads… I could be wrong but I feel confident there will be options in the “settings” menu to reduce the font size, eliminate HP bars on screen, or even completely turn off the HUD. A lot of modern RPG’s feature these display options; it’s pretty common.
This looks like Final Fantasy XV, not Dragon Age. I like FF. I like DA. If I want to play them, I'll launch them. I don't want DA to copy anyone else, I want DA to be itself. Also the aesthetics in this one are a mess imo. Heart breaking to see another series go this way, but whether it's successful or not, I think Inquisition is the last DA for me.
The biggest problem Veilguard is gonna have is having to mesure up to BG3, even with a 1 year gap between them. Also I get that the art style change did worked so well with some enemies, especially the demons and darkspawn.
Dragon Age is a dark fantasy with deep, immersive lore and political, racial and cultural systems that are sometimes controversial. I suspect Veilguard will have buried anything that might offend anyone, and that's bound to affect the story-telling ability. Not to mention that the "dark fantasy" has been sanded down to a plain old "fantasy." I mean just take the griffon: they used to be completely fearsome and badass, and now it's CUTE.
There is nothing to be concerned with if you don't care about the game in the first place. Personally I remember not liking the inquisition gameplay at all, did I still have a good time ? Absolutely, I loved the story and the characters and wanted to see the end. If you're not already a dragon age fan, I wouldn't buy the game, I would wait for the reviews and the goty edition
All three games had their charms. Origins was a great game, but the system was hardly groundbreaking or such a fantastic experience that I'd want to play the same system over and over and over again
"clear vision of their IPs" each of the DA games are quite different from each other and this looks no different from the jumps they did in previous games
@@qrrrw THIS... The discourse around this game has been so odd.. So many obvious non dragon age fans are being so loud.. Calling it woke or nothing like the old games, as if dragon age hasnt always been "woke" and ever had a consistent art direction lol
@@riley5074 For me this has nothing to do with Wokeness or Identity politics. Its about the story mainly. There are so many retcons in Dragon Age lore that it's clear, whatever the plans were, they threw them out years ago and I doubt their current writers' ability to make me care anymore. And you're absolutely right, Dragon Age was Woke long before Woke was a concept. People complaining about it now were never fans in the first place.
I still feel like they should have done a mass effect legendary version style remaster for Dragon Age and release it before Veil guard especially since bioware confirmed that your decisions in previous games wouldn't carry forward like the did in the previous games. So doing a remaster bundle would have been a great way for them to make a system that let's you import your choices.
I just don’t see it man. Combat looks fine just different from before but still looks good. Doesn’t really matter though the combat can simply be serviceable and id be fine with it because the story is really all I care about and obviously we can’t tell if that will be good or not based on these small trailers.
Also let’s not compare DA with BG3. People love to do that but man these are two different types of RPGs and this is coming from someone who loves both games. The short and simple explanation is BG3 is trying to tell your character’s story and will change to reflect your choices similar to a real D&D game. DA is trying to tell a story while giving you some player control. DA wants you feel like part of the world while BG3 wants you to basically shape the world.
@@Guava11534I mean DA is specifically about shaping the world through your actions too? The landsmeet in DA Origins in entirely about player choice deciding the political future of Ferelden, DA2 is more character focused but Inquisition also focuses on establishing consequences in the world. The entire reason DA Keep was made was to have players choices matter and be reflected in Inquisition based on choices throughout the previous two games. And the things the devs forced choice away from like Leliana stick out like a sore thumb due to it. To say BG3 and DA are very different in how they present choice and consequences is really not true, especially since BG3 is a sequel to BG1 and 2, Bioware games that DA specifically built off like BG3 did. My big issue as a DA fan from Origins is I've waited for this game for 10 years and am being shown something that is decidedly not Dragon Age in its core combat gameplay. Why am I controlling a lone character in the series focused on party based character interactions and combat? Where's the strategy? Even DA2 for it's action focus had some strategy to it. I think a series that is at its 4th game, after already course correcting away from action in Inquisition, going back to focus even harder on action to appeal to more players just doesn't make sense. I'm not sure how familiar you are with DA (that's not meant as an insult or jab, I just don't know your familiarity) but as someone who loves DA and has done so from the first game it's exhausting seeing it repeat the same mistakes it's already learned from.
I really liked a lot of inquisition actually, despite a lot of flaws but idk something doesn't look right for this game.... I can't quite put my finger on it. And I'm not talking visually, I don't really mind the art style switch all that much. Maybe it's just wanting more or expecting more of a jump from the last game but something just isn't clicking the way I want it to. Hopefully the game is good and I'm wrong, would love another good bioware game to dive into.
@@TylorHuebner that’s fair all I’m asking is to just give it a chance. Maybe not buy the game but keep an open mind. Aztecross was definitely right about BioWare needing a big win after the failure of Anthem. I’m kinda afraid BioWare will get shut down if this game flops and then both dragon age and mass effect will be dead.
@@jimbob1862 you’re right you do make a lot of choices in DA and Inquisition regarding politics and who lives and who dies. So yes there is a lot of choice between both games. The main point I’m making is that BioWare isn’t willing to sacrifice a story if let’s say you want to just be evil guy rather than the hero. In DA sure you can be a dick but you will save the world from the blight in origins or in Inquisition stop Corypheous. In BG3 you literally take control of the netherbrain and dominate the world and do a whole bunch of fucked up things if you feel like your character would do that. BG3 wants to give you complete control if they can while BioWare wants to give you as much control as they can without fucking up the overall story. Also personally, I am like Aztecross I’m not a big fan of turn based games. I love BG3 and I pushed past the gameplay because I love all the choice I’m given but I do prefer a more action style of combat. Personally, my favorite combat was inquisition and I wished they kept it that way in Veilguard. I think inquisition combat while rough at times still gave me a good feeling of action and strategy if you’re playing on nightmare. I think if they just stuck with it and refined it that style could have satisfied all players but unfortunately they went another direction. But like I said the combat is really the least of my concerns because as long as I enjoy it I will be happy, what matters to me is the story.
where is the gritty dark feeling of DAO?? this shit looks like a colorful rainbow explosion's of vomit. the darkspawn have now become a joke in design and no gore ?
I'm a huge dragon age and bioware fan. However what made me a bioware fan doesn't exist anymore. All the good ones left the company and this doesn't even look like dragon age anymore.
I don't play DA games, this doesn't look appealing, I'm with Cross here. But I also would like to be wrong, I never want a game to be bad. Hopefully, it's good, and its fanbase is happy with it. It'd have to be GOTY for me to bother. It's just not my cup of tea.
This is no longer an RPG they turned it into action game with quests. I have no idea what is going on with the dated art style i guess they are channeling there inner World of Warcraft. Inquisition was pushing it for me, now you cant even control your companions whats next, no quests.
The more I see this game the less enthusiasm I have for it BUT the DLC ending was perfect especially if your inquisitor was an elf. So I will see this story through.
As a huge DA fan, I'm personally looking forward to it, to see the conclusion of Solas' story. I just wish people would wait to play it before panning it. It could be better than you think, if you give it a try. BioWare games are all about about telling stories with deep lore and compelling characters; the gameplay has always been secondary.

@@Guile_The_Exile Maybe you're right. it could be.
this looks so cheap for some reason
not to mention how they changed the games aesthetics a bunch of times during its development
i fear its gonna suck
:(
What happened to the lord of the rings aesthetic from dao? Inquisition and its consequences have been a disaster to the dragon age fanbase.
Everything just looks so outdated... Combat seems really clunky, UI is straight out from a mobile game, the general graphics I would have expected maybe late ps4 era, and the style while subjective, imo doesn't look that great especially the monsters and characters. I hope the story and characters can carry
They're still using the same shit from inquisition
Man. The art direction of this is just not it for me. Reminds me of when Blizzard went from dark Gothic horror in Diablo to whatever cartoon-y mess D3 was.
Cross going through his "Not Bait" Era i see lol.
Cross is a MASTER BAITER
I completely agree
Meh. We shall see
Nah these graphics are dookie
The graphics are technically good, but they are soulless. Elden ring had terrible fidelity but the art direction made it beautiful. This shit looks a step above cell shaded. Infamous second son had better skin shading and light reflections than this shit. And that game came out in 2014.
@LobsterDeity as someone who played the borderlands series, I definitely am coming from a more biased point of view. I do love the style of games like Elden Ring, but I also believe that the cell-shaded art style looks good as well. I'm willing to give this a chance, but I have talked to a few people who won't try this game simply because of the art style. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, I just disagree, is all
my main issue everyones skin is smooth like textures are missing
Really, thats your main concern?
My poor Qunari
If you are a dragon age fan, and you say the Qunari looks fine or better, then you are a simp for bioware. And always pray how good they are.
I still can't fathom how some people can look at the Arishok and say with a straight face that the new qunari look better.
But we've only seen the player character and a companion. I'd that really enough of a basis to go off of?
@MrProdigy810 it just starts off with one. I mean, people were already saying stuff about that female qunari companion you get.
The only downside to DA2 is that the face of the qunari all looked the same. If you showed me the qunari now, I'd be questioning how tevinter is in such a long war.
@@felwinterpeak1674 Are you saying they look bad because they look more human? I mean dragon age never really had fantastical design for is characters like the aliens in mass effect. All the other races basically look human with extra steps. What makes the qunari different from the rest?
We've seen 2
We havent seen a goddamn thing in regards to character creator, or other Qunari in the game
The 2 we have seen have the same specific horn style
Bull in DA:I didnt look like ANY Qunari previously, same with others in previous games
I think a lot of people's reaction to what we've seen so far is uncertainty, for both existing fans and potential new players alike.
That doesn't exactly inspire confidence. I don't think it will be bad, but I do think its success will hinge on how good the writing and characters are.
I’m more excited just to continue the story the story feels like it’s gonna be a good one like how the inquisition dlcs were like I don’t mind the art style cuz like the elf looks really good
This game is not even gonna sell 5 million copies
@@byte-bg4obThe game will easily sell 5 million copies. You have CTE brother
They're definitely going more cartoony compared to previous grittier titles, but the gameplay seems pretty decent and the set pieces they've shown off seems pretty awesome. I'm jaded from every large game company now so I'll wait for release, but I am fairly excited
"ROCK PAPER SCISSORS! Pet cats AND DOGS!" 10/10 Goddammit Cross I almost ruined my keyboard with coffee, man XD
Worked well for them I guess. I enjoyed Inquisition to play it on 3 different platforms (ps3, ps4 and pc)
I can’t fault Aztecross for his skepticism. After Mass Effect Andromeda and Anthem, there are valid reasons to be skeptical regarding BioWare projects.
That said, Inquisition is/was a pretty good game, and Origins is a true classic masterpiece. I think it’s not unreasonable to be more enthusiastic or excited than Aztecross is about Veilguard.
someone took a sandpaper and blasted everything dragon age from it.
Art style looks like crap compared to previous games, this look like a generic 2Ks game.
As a fan of of DA, I'm excited to see how this will come back and bite em! The fandom is wild
Close to mobile game tier
Setting aside the various concerns about the developers woke ideology being injected into the game, the raw gameplay and the overall tone of the world seem goofy to me. Fans of Dragon Age have long been clamoring for a return to the series' roots, and I had really hoped this would be the game to achieve that. However, it appears to be just a generic hack and slash game with a veneer of RPG strategy.
Cross needs to play the Mass Effect trilogy to fully understand what Bioware are capable of.
Ya no thanks. I think ill pass.
Dragon Age is not Dragon Age anymore. It's basically the studio developer's self insert fiction now. None of the old DA remains. Sad.
I want to love it, but the reveals are giving me whiplash 😔😔
I was cautiously optimistic when a new game was announced but it feels like everything they've shown sense then has made me less and less interested. Inquisition was so good but this game feels like a low budget MCU inspired knock off.
The Dragon Age UI on console always looked a bit weird, it usually looks a lot better on the PC version
The art style is just weird, I liked both DA1 and Inquisition especially the latter, also the double horned race (forgot the name) is also looking weird, also I really don't like not being able to control the other companions
The Quanari
IMO it’s just the character models, physically they look decent but texture wise they look too smooth. The hair though my god it’s amazing, I haven’t seen any game that has come close to this level of hair physics. But other than the models if you look at the environments especially the ones from the environmental walk through videos released a few days ago where they use the camera to show off the locations in detail it is big step up from previous games and is actually quite impressive. I feel like if the game wasn’t so colourful and the faces weren’t so smooth and some of the enemy models were better then I think a lot less people would have a problem with the game’s visuals.
This really looks like a mobile game with a ridiculous amount of flashes and bloom being used to hide the low quality textures.
Typically a game I could give a chance on discount. But that's sad for a Dragon Age game.
The gaming community has gotten pathetic. We almost accepted a trash game like outlaws into our homes and they won't even let a potentially good game make it to release week
I just love the, “Origins fans go fuck youself” comment at the beginning. Not exactly what she said but I’m interpreting journo to plain English.
It looks so cartoony compared the other dragon age games.
Idk why people assume massive copro companies can return to the Xbox 360 glory days of banners. Ubisoft, WB or EA lost their souls for gaming many years ago 🤣🤣🤣
They put product over the people 9 times out of 10.
Its almost a parody of a Qunari. Like I expect them to say the badasses with horns from DA2 didnt focus group very well with soy infused Zoomers. 😂
What story have they made that was good in the past 10 years ?
@@omensoffate (And Bioware forgot for a while) ... 🤦♂️

I hoped they would have fixed the game. Like other studios did with other games.
@@sayurioffenborn4960 unless someone else picks it up the game is dead and there isn’t really a chance anyone will
Dragon age 2 qunari was the best design, idk why they changed it. Dragon age origins darkspawn where way cooler too, same with the demons. I bet big booba desire demon won’t be in this game. Also the fact you’re not able to use blood magic because the devs felt it would make the mc “too evil” annoys me especially considering the amount of fucked up things you could do in these games examples
- making a companion kill his sister in cold blood
- killing a child
- forcibly placing souls in golems to create soldiers against the blight
- convincing a pack of werewolf’s to slaughter a clan of elves for the sake of revenge when you’re supposed to be helping the elves
- killing a mage in the fade, effectively giving them a lobotomy
- selling one of your companions (former slave)back to his master
- releasing a possessed grey warden to reek havoc across the world in order for you to reclaim a fort
- killing a companion after destroying an incredibly important holy relic which cures all aliments
- executing and betraying a companion at the landsmeet if you pick a certain option for who gets the throne
- participating/helping with the death of a grand cleric causing an uprising & the mages to be slaughtered
- KILLING A SICK DOG THAT YOU COULD SAVE & HAVE BECOME A COMPANION.
Tldr there’s a lot of evil shit you can do in dragon age, but suddenly using blood magic is too evil.. which in turns make me worried about what evil things you can do in veilguard.. if any.
Dragon age origins was so incredible its a shame bioware could never replicate that in its sequels.
2:31 Is that Savathun's ship? 😆
The UI looks like it belongs in a scifi game
All the fake walls locking you into the zones make DA feel super dated to me
A lot of games do that though
To address Cross’ concern about the large-font damage numbers and immersion-breaking HP bars above enemy heads… I could be wrong but I feel confident there will be options in the “settings” menu to reduce the font size, eliminate HP bars on screen, or even completely turn off the HUD.
A lot of modern RPG’s feature these display options; it’s pretty common.
You say that but most games don't really give those options and it's gonna need mods to fix it.
@@gokkiyoutube I don’t which games you’re referring to, but I see those options in settings menu in a lot of the RPG games that I play.
I don’t assume anything anymore.
Name some of these games then
Kingdoms of Amalur looks better than this…WTH is this and why are we trusting IGN cross?? That’s like trusting Pete Parsons
Yeah it doesn't look good compared to the games we've seen of late.
The old Bioware is dead. No one that made the games we loved like Mass Effect 1 and 2 and Dragon Age: Origins is around anymore.
They really just gave the Qunari a baby face & a poorly photoshoped forehead.
It looks so... uncanny.
All I've wanted with Dragon Age is an actual sequel to Dragon Age: Origins. I'm still waiting...
All three games had their charms. Origins was a great game, but the system was hardly groundbreaking or such a fantastic experience that I'd want to play the same system over and over and over again
Ill never support Bioware after how dirty they did the Anthem fanbase.
I'm not convinced there's anything left of old Bioware.
It seems like they don't have any clear vision for their IPs anymore.
"clear vision of their IPs" each of the DA games are quite different from each other and this looks no different from the jumps they did in previous games
What is old Bioware for you?
@@qrrrw THIS... The discourse around this game has been so odd.. So many obvious non dragon age fans are being so loud.. Calling it woke or nothing like the old games, as if dragon age hasnt always been "woke" and ever had a consistent art direction lol
@@sayurioffenborn4960 Baldurs Gate, Jade Empire, Kotor and Mass Effect. Emphasis on world building, story and characters.
Man i hate the fact they turned my dark edgy fantasy game franchise into an artstyle thats reminiscent of fortnite
This is gonna be one of those games you pick up for $5 during a steam summer sale in a few years from now for me.
Looks great, looks like they iterated further on Inquisition which I really enjoyed. UI is clean and will likely be customizable.
I could be wrong, but this sounds like a lady reading someone else's written review very nicely, rather than someone who played it themselves.
I really like the cartoon look of the game, not every AAA game needs to have the generic U5 photorealistic look
This is no longer an RPG they turned it into action game with quests. I have no idea what is going on with the dated art style i guess they are channeling there inner World of Warcraft. Inquisition was pushing it for me, now you cant even control your companions whats next, no quests.
I have moderate amount of hope, but it’s definitely nowhere near the level of inquisition.
5:10 is she fucking wearing a book as a hat?
I feel you on this one Cross.
The more I see this game the less enthusiasm I have for it BUT the DLC ending was perfect especially if your inquisitor was an elf.
So I will see this story through.
But the hair, Cross! THE HAIR!
This would not be called dragon age and no one would care
those horned guys look awful, didnt they used to be massive beefy strong assholes descended from dragons. This game looks awful. This reviewer is who they are talking about when we say IGN has no idea what theyre talking about
These kids won't let you have an opinion these days its wild.
This might be a bit picky or annoying but I always hate it in games when your weapon doesn’t actually touch the enemy but still counts as a hit … in this it looks like just effect touching the enemy and not your weapon which I hate… essentially I love realistic hit boxes
