Hi, I am Norwegian 🇧🇻 The singing in the beginning of the song and the chorus is "kulokk", tradditionally how they called the cows to them in the contryside. The text is telling a 1000 year old folklore story about an evil stepmother cursing her stepdaugter to be a wolf alone in the forrest. And the only way she can break the curse is to drink her brothers blood. In the end she sees her stepmother in the forrest so she attacks and eats her. Turns out her stepmother was pregnant, leading her to drink her brothers blood and breaks the curse.

Yepp, and Gåte also say that it's about breaking free on your own terms because of that ❤

The refrain says "kom kua" which means "come cow". It's a traditional way of calling in cattle in the Telemark region of Norway.

This might be the most original sent to Eurovision after Nocturne.

😊 I think that a lot of us Norwegians are feeling quite excited about it that we send a song in our own language to the Eurovision, after quite a few years since the last time. I think for many years now there's been this idea that a song needs to be in English to be good enough and possibly felt even a bit embarrassed to use our own language for an international audience unless we have to, as if that would lead nowhere if we did. Which I hope is changing by this, because when another artist (Tix) was in the final some years ago he used the English lyrics instead even if his song originally was in Norwegian. By translating the song it lost the magic for my sake. I'm very confident that Gåte won't make the same mistake. Our language has a few other sounds than English and should be used much more also for an international audience, as it's very suitable for this type of traditional inspired music or any style of music really. It will be exciting to see if Europe is ready for some Norwegian folk-rock this time. It might be that people out there can relate to this, as folk music often share things in common even across borders. It can unify people. Regardless of how it will go at the final, I regard this already as a victory in the sense that people acknowledge that traditional music really do mix well with modern instruments and arrangements snd never goes out of fashion. I couldn't be happier. Thanks for your nice reaction video 😘

Yeah, this song is definitely different and risky, but I honestly think that's the way to go. A lot of people like this song immediately, but I had to have a couple listens before I really liked it - and I'm already a fan of the band, and have been for over 20 years! It was not at all immediate for me. (But after a couple of listens I also started to really love it!)
It's interesting because a lot of songs(not all by a long shot, but a lot) are made with Eurovision in mind, even with the help of various "Eurovision experts". Meanwhile, this song is just a shortened down version of a regular song for Gåte to put on their album. This is exactly the kind of music they make in general. Check out other songs by them like "Huldra" or "Svarteboka" if you're curious. ;)
