Every time you guys make a video, I just get more and more confident about my choice to back the Dygma Defy. Again, great work, for the very informative video, and to the whole design team! It's easy to "not see" how complicated a build can get when you're not taking part in the design. Seriously, thank you for all the details!
Awesome explanation! A lot of split wireless keyboards are just very janky and only do a couple things well as you mentioned. I think normal keyboards are okay but more and more people use keyboards everyday and I myself am just in love with the idea of a split keyboard that is flexible and intuitive. I was originally looking into making my own but quickly found out how complicated it would be and there really are not a whole lot of other options out there. Thats why a lot of us are willing to pay 500$ for this thing. It actually is something that has not been present in the market. If its turly worth it, and I think it is, it will make accessing layers more easy, give more desk space when needed, be easy to use with other devices such as your ipad, more comfortable overall, all things that I know have been considered given how passionate you guys have been about this. I really do hope your endeavors pay off on this. Sounds like everything is almost set. A lot of us cannot wait to get our hands on these to try them out and improve our typing experience, something we do 8hours a day!
@@chocolatezt I mean they are small which is cool. But yeah I don't know for me personally I did look into sort of keyboard but the first thing that unsettled me was that Bluetooth is used for its wireless mode. Limited amount of keys. I also have personally witnessed what slanted keys can do for something like your thumb and I've heard some people complain about number pad keys on some of the other keyboards out there. I have high hopes for the way the dygma defy is setup especially since my hands are a bit larger than most. Also tenting seems pretty useful. I happen to use a huge variety of 3d programs and do a little bit of scripting here and there. Although you can access a lot of macros, I think those Zmk setups are just too minimal. I just need something more robust. (And then there's the bonus that the defy actually looks/feels pretty cool compared to some of the others out there. )
Amazing that you managed to get an actual elephant trainer to explain about keyboards! 👍 All joking aside, I'm very grateful to Dygma for making such a fantastic, state-of-the-art product, especially after learning more and more details about how this is anything but trivial, especially at scale and for a reasonable price. Well done!
I love your videos, they are nice, fun and informatives. Dygma Defy is a master pièce and will be mine one day, hopefully. The Price is expensive, Can you please consider kicking out the travelling case and enhancement kit for those who dont need it ? I think they are useless for most of your customers, it would be more ecologic and The Price could be 88 euros lower. Thanks for your videos
Being a backer, I understand the request. I'm just not sure how true the "useless for most customers" is. For myself, the carrying case is close to essential as I will be carrying this baby to work multiple times a week. I'm really happy I get a fitted case.
@@sgt345 yes, You are right, in the sense that my "useless for most customers" statement is not supported by any statistics. I am referring solely to my personal feelings and experience (I have also received such items when purchasing my Everest Max, but I have never found them useful). With the current price of the pack, I will have to make compromises on certain appealing options such as Wi-Fi, tilt, or underglow, even though I find these options much more interesting than the Enhancement kit and the travel case. I am working remotely.
The main problem in this case is that the carrying case acts as packaging. If we removed the case, we'd need to put in a nice box. And a nice box costs almost as much. That's why we went with the travel case 😅
Sorry to hear about this... maybe you know someone that is in a different country and could take it and deliver to you? This was an often used solution from other Dygmates... 🤔
Great thinking but did anyone think about putting a touchpad or trackball on the keyboard? That is the one thing missing from every split keyboard design (wireless or wired) :(
That would be super cool... that and some mouse modules, so you could use everything without moving your hands out of the home row. That would be the dream 🧑🍳🤌
Could you guys make it with another layout? I dont think split keyboard makes the most of its efficiency with qwerty layout. I am using corne & sofle keyboard with colemak layout. Yes it can be remapping. But how about the keycaps? And cute clothes tho!
Thanks a lot for the praises 😊 We sell the model with Dash keycaps, which have no legends. We did so anyone wanting to try an alternative layout has an option. I love what you are doing here but I have questions. You already made the key scanners masters of communication. Why not go all the way and use nRF52832's (or greater) as key scanners with direct communications to a dongle or another Bluetooth host (pc/smartphone/..)?
That's a great question! By doing it this way we split the complexity of the project in two and the user can choose a system with or without RF/Bluetooth 🥰
