Once the mylar is mixed with the resin and in the mold, I use a straw to gently blow into it. My breath is warm enough to 1) warm the resin so its more blended naturally, 2) helps to bring any bubbles to the top, and 3) it melds the mylar flakes better into the resin. When blowing into the straw, the resin will look slightly cloudy as it warms from my breath, but will clear up like crystal within seconds. Using a straw works well for me so I thought you might like to try it for yourself. :)
ok, if you want to use resin- make sure u have a detached garage from your house! this shit has high fumes! it stincks! so if your wife or husband does not talk to you, 4 a week? I get it! LMFAO!
these are gorgeous!! i'm more of a gem and rock person than a craft person,, and as someone who despises those plastic foil back faceted gems, i was very pleasantly surprised by how captivating these are. especially from far away, just beautiful. they really do imitate the fire of a dark natural gem well. xx
I learned from you that to make UV resin pieces, one must use a clear mold, not the opaque silicone mold. I didn't know that. I'm so new to this, I haven't even made my first project yet; I am quietly garnering as much knowledge as I can before I start buying supplies and giving it all a try. Thank you so much! Love how your faux opal stones turned out!
I tried this and they turn out beautifully. I tried it your way and I also tried doing all clear up until the domeing and then I put black resin. I like that way best. Thank you for the tutorial. I will definitely be watching more.
I have been going to order some resin, now I think it will be the UV resin that I will give a go first. I love these little jewels, your mind is incredible. Thanks for sharing.
The blue and white table top you're using is beautiful, but it does make it a little more difficult to see the items you're using and how the resin is working to coat the mold, etc. It would be easier to see what you're doing if the background was a single color without a pattern. I did order the mylar flakes you suggested and can't wait to add this technique to my jewelry making. Thank you for your tutorials and the time you take to teach us. Its very helpful.
I just got into crafting using UV resin and I love how simple it is to make these beautiful gems! I might try making earrings! And if I may suggest, put washi tape on a bottle cap and stick your gem on there so that when you color, the marker doesn't get on you. Thank you for the great tutorial and giveaway!
This is my fav vid so far with holo flakes. My list for rjcrafts is growing...and growing lol. They do have really good prices. Thank you for sharing this.
i liked this i was so impressed with how these turned out and they look so like the real thing, its remarkable, and they look beautiful, i was wanting to see a tutorial like this, but i could not find one until, i found your channel, i have no experience in resin iam a wire jewelry maker and designer, and i want to learn how to use resin to make these beautiful dichroic Faux glass cabachons. this is such a great tutorial thank you for making it, its exactly what i was searching for. i subscribed and gave this video a thumbs up. Laura in England
To remove any bubbles after you add the mylar - since she recommends against the flame - breath on it. Your breath should do the job nicely. Nice tutorial - thanks!
Wow just saw this one of yours too Alison! So cool and DIFFERENT! I am going to buy the supplies and make them! Also Alison, I have a couple of Japanese artists that I found that I am fascinated with also...I want to try some of their creations...I think you might enjoy them also!? Would you like me to email you their links? And some of the things they use I have not been able to find because they are all in Japan and in Japanese and it is very confusing trying to figure out how to order...and I have not been able to find them here on Amazon as they don't say the names of these supplies they use in English lol!..But they are gorgeous and different!..I just thought as an artist as I am too...I always love seeing things other artists make even if it is not my style...it's ALL just so amazing and FUN!...maybe you could help me figure out where to get the stuff they use here in the states hopefully from one of your associates? I did not know if you would want me to post them here? Anyway...I LOVE LOVE LOVE your stuff and you are so cute and sweet and so easy to understand! And your enthusiasm and LOVE of what you do is what is magnetizing I think?! And you take great videos...always a good close range and always in focus and always on screen and your hands never get in the way....OK let me know! Thanks!!! ❤️❤️❤️
These are gorgeous!!! I love these. I couldn't help but to notice you had a little cough or something. Please remember the resin is toxic so be careful when curing..
Loved the video. I have made a few dicro pieces. This looks much easier. I only have one suggestion. When you work at your UV station a solid dark surface would make it easier to see the resin and Mylar in the clear mold!! Looking forward to making these.
I am constantly surprised--not really surprised, but mightily pleased--by your creativity and the variety of wonderful projects you share with us. Thank you so very much!
Love your videos, but do agree with Betty about plain background. This one wasn't as bad for being able to see as some of your others. Your videos have literally kept me awake at night as i couldn't stop watching.
These are really beautiful! Thanks so much for sharing with us. I have been looking for a tutorial on how to replace small stones in a ring. I am keeping my fingers crossed🤞that I can succeed with this lesson today. It will be interesting to see if it works.😊⚘
I have been doing resin for years but never heard of these little Gemstones. I am going to see if I can find them. I live in the middle of nowhere. I mean where the Bison, wild turkeys, deer, wolves, and other creatures roam. I have got to try them.
I love your video so much that I purchased the gem mold from your source but it seems to be slightly different. The one I purchased has smaller gems and doesn't have two circle shapes, only one. It does have two square shapes. The larger rectangle on mine seems to be the size of your smaller rectangle. Do you have another source for the mold you used? I Thanks so much for the video!
I love the fact you used a SHARPIE!! It might be easier for some to tape the stone to their finger using poster putty instead of chasing it with your fingers and getting ink on them. This would work better when applying the final coat as well. Thanks for making this. I look forward to more. I will be subscribing.
If you add clear Elmer’s glue one drop at a time your glitters won’t sink. Only one to two drops till you get t A gel like consistency. Your glitters will stay floating and it won’t interfere with resin curing
Hi I noticed your glitters sink. If you add a drop of clear Elmer’s glue to the resin be for you add your glitter it thickens it and won’t let it sink they will stay in a floated position. In case you didn’t know this trick.
Ooooooooo, so pretty! Wonder what different colored backgrounds would do. Thanks again for your wonderful videos. I so look forward to them. Loved having so many last week. ;)

Very simple and very elegant. Thank you. . 🌹 شكرا . Greetings from Cairo EGYPT
Really lovely, I had done this but used black gel nail polish to coat the mould in beginning. No Sharpie needed.
Fabulous,I’ve been making and selling jewelry for 12 years but I have never looked into making stones with Any kind of resin. My new projects!
ok, if you want to use resin- make sure u have a detached garage from your house! this shit has high fumes! it stincks! so if your wife or husband does not talk to you, 4 a week? I get it! LMFAO!
Looks awesome. One tip the lamps your using on the bottom that blue film comes off so the light reflects off the bottom.
