Thank you very much for this tutorial, it's very helpful.I have a I9 9900K and RTX 3090 and the game runs so much better since these new patches improvements. I still have some frame drops in some aeras but other than that it's perfect and no a single crash occurs.
I love how the emulator community members learn from each other. The UI looks incredibly similar to Dolphin, and that's good because it's a very refined and easy UI to use.

I followed everything to the letter and it's giving me a popup notification that says that some of the patches aren't compatible with the current version of RPCS3's patch manager. EDIT: Redid everything, this time closing the emulator before making the patch file. It works now. Best to make sure you have the emulator closed before doing any file modifications.
Finally after days i managed to get this thing working. Got rid of the freezing and black screens, but the game does not run well, although it's playable

Good tutorial! It took me a while, but I got the game ready. However, audio is very laggy and in most parts there is no sound at all, plus ingame framerate is unbearably low. Cutscenes are fine, but gameplay is running at like 2 fps.
Now it just freezes at black screen when going under the first truck, oh well thought would have worked. EDIT: I turned on the Flickering Textures patch and it seems to have sorted it for me, it's far from perfect but playable. Thank you for the tutorial
i froze as soon as i went under the truck right at the start game was running smooth like one drop as soon as i gained control but that’s it then it fades to black as i go under the truck and bam im stuck
Used PAL version of the game. Only had the black screen during the first part where snake deployed in middle east. But was able to finish the game smoothly. Do not close the game during the 2 hour initial ppu compilation it will break your copy of the game.
Mate you deserve credit, thx to your guide it's decently playable now . And i wonder if there is a fix concerning the sound flickering like in the intro tv channel sequence . And thanks again 🫡

i got a problem for me i got different files then yours i got metal gear 4 folder inside i got 1 file PS3_DISC.SFB and a folder ps3_game my issue is the game start but at the main menue my Xbox controller stop working thanks for help in advance

I can play the game up until the part in act 1 where Snake meets Meryl. After that cutscenes, the screen goes black... My settings are the exact same, I tried for hours. My PC is a beast as well.

I was able to run the game and my cpu is on A tier, but I have a problem after the start of the game. When you can move Snake for the first time, you know that you must crouch to get trough a truck, but then it just shows a black screen and I can´t continue. Can anybody help me with that?

how can I use more canary patches and regular patches for other games? If the name has to be the same for the file to work, I can only use one at a time in the folder. I hope I dont have to manually move them in and out whenever I wanna switch games.
Regular game patches should be there when you load up a new game, canary has to be manually added but I don't know much about then outside of this one for MGS4

Yes, the precompilation bug for example is fixed on version 2.00 if you use either the digital, 25th Anniversary and Legacy Collection version of the game
Has anyone noticed a glitch at the dock. The cutscene where Liquid shuts the system off and starts shooting the place up. For whatever reason, it seems to default to 720p. Has anyone else noticed this?
it's because that cutscene is a pre-rendered video file the PS3 could barely handle the game itself so Kojima had it done this way to stop PS3's from turning into nukes

Works too, just extract the iso with WinRAR or 7zip and you'll have the playable files

i got a problem for me i got different files then yours i got metal gear 4 folder inside i got 1 file PS3_DISC.SFB and a folder ps3_game my issue is the game start but at the main menue my Xbox controller stop working thanks for help in advance
Hi, sorry, I have a tip to consider, in the games folder you can also insert the same file that you would use on the PS3, i.e. ps3_game (with the game inside) and ps3_update, it works anyway, you don't necessarily have to install or search for a pkg file, I ask you instead but where can I change the saves because I have one with everything unlocked but I don't know which directory to go to

Save file location is \dev_hdd0\home\00000001\savedata\(Serial Code of the Game)
If you got your save from a PS3 it needs to be decrypted before using it on RPCS3, it can done with a program called "PS3 Brute Force Save Data "

I can play the game up until the part in act 1 where Snake meets Meryl. After that cutscenes, the screen goes black...
My settings are the exact same, I tried for hours. My PC is a beast as well.

Yeah the only problem I’m having is the sound going in or out but it’s running smooth the controls are nice playing in 1440p just with I can fix the volume and I’m still playing in 30fps can suggestions to get 60fps

quick thing... i set it up for mouse and keyboard.. so far so good... still getting the mouse sensitivty right .... but is there a work around for when you double click the left mouse button to shoot or CQC... and it changes the size of the window??
Yes, on the settings go to Emulator -> Viewport and enable "Ignore doubleclicks for Fullscreen" (first option)

I have a i7 8700k. Everything is working but performance is quite bad. Below 20 fps a lot of times, but sometimes 30, 45 or 60. Is that how its expected to run? (Even at 720p)
I dontt know why, but after the third reboot with all these same settings, now it sticks to 60. I literally didnt change a single setting? Weird

I was able to run the game and my cpu is on A tier, but I have a problem after the start of the game. When you can move Snake for the first time, you know that you must crouch to get trough a truck, but then it just shows a black screen and I can´t continue. Can anybody help me with that?

atleast in firefox you can choose "download anyways"
Right click and select Download Anyway or Keep depending on your browser.
how can I use more canary patches and regular patches for other games? If the name has to be the same for the file to work, I can only use one at a time in the folder. I hope I dont have to manually move them in and out whenever I wanna switch games.
Regular game patches should be there when you load up a new game, canary has to be manually added but I don't know much about then outside of this one for MGS4

Yes, the precompilation bug for example is fixed on version 2.00 if you use either the digital, 25th Anniversary and Legacy Collection version of the game

Has anyone noticed a glitch at the dock. The cutscene where Liquid shuts the system off and starts shooting the place up. For whatever reason, it seems to default to 720p. Has anyone else noticed this?
it's because that cutscene is a pre-rendered video file
the PS3 could barely handle the game itself so Kojima had it done this way to stop PS3's from turning into nukes

There's something wrong with the imported_patch file, make sure it's writen exaclty like i do in the video
