Sony always did backwards compatibility the best, I was sad to hear it wouldn't be coming to the PS4. They would go so far as to include the physical chips needed to make it happen, but I think they figured out with the PS3 the added cost just isn't worth it. I still wish they at least gave the option, like have a model with and without.
21:30 I remember that statement. Again, boomer execs being absolutely out of touch with the gaming communities, always trying to push their "CONSOOM NEW PRODUCT, NAO!!" narrative, that treats games as disposable products you shouldn't invest time to and replay endlessly. Full backwards compatibiity was THE selling point of both PS2 and PS3 consoles, something gamers AND their parents were overjoyed. Remember the SNES announcement controversy, how older folks were furious that those hundreds of bucks worth of NES games no longer would work on the new hardware? Yeah, many do not, clearly.
7th gen games where the best. Most of the big AAA gaming companies aren't making the games they use too. They're too worried about pleasing a small minority of very vocal idiots to make good games anymore. Now they either release the game in a unfinished state and let the people that buy the game find the bugs with the pre-orders. Then they can push a massive day one patch that's suppose to make it somewhat passable as a finished game. Or they make it so unbearably obvious that they're pushing a DEI agenda. That overshadows any positives and it ends up like concord... My advice to the gaming industry. Go back to what worked, i.e. making games for gamers not activist. Like it or not, the vast majority of gamers are straight males.
With those specs, if a game doesn't run then it's not because your PC is not good enough but instead the emulator just doesn't run that game well. I have a Windows PC handheld similar to a Steamdeck as well as a big PC. My handheld runs Cyberpunk in 720p low setting at 50-60fps. On my PC I run it in 1080p high with some ray tracing at 90-100fps. That's a huge gap between both PC but The Last of Us runs like crap on PCSX3 on both computers. 10-20fps and visual glitches. With that game it's not about how powerful the computer is but how compatible the emulator is.
RPCS3 runs really well on the Deck Not sure about something heavy like MGS4 and Uncharted, but stuff like Tekken 6, Tag 2 and Dante's Inferno runs just fine

Bummer Sony/PlayStation will lose out on so much by not including this colorway with in there new systems sells. I am actually surprised no one thought about this a long time ago until now. Just create or 3D print the old school PS1 case or skins for all PS5 accessories, to get that one and only old school feel of the PS1 for the mew PS5 Systems like China or other companies. There is a lot of generic accessories to everything why not the PS1 skins for the PS5? I am sure Sony is betting on copyright laws to be broken so by their lawyers take companies to court in either bankrupt them and or sue for millions of dollars by copyright. That alone could go towards the dev development of a PS6. Either way soon as I get my hands on one I will be the owner of a old school PS1 colorway on my PS5 Slim/Portal and Controller. I am even going to purchase 2 of the OG new school charger cables when I get the chance.. where are you PS5 pro scammers out there, I hope you and your servers gets a virus. No skin off my teeth and really not a collector so it does not bother me as much as it does others that have hundreds of dollars to waste for a console that will be released again sometime after next year. You can tell RPCS3 to not compile PPU on the start, it'll compile the modules when needed. Makes MGS4 start like in seconds instead. Ratchet & Clank games also freeze often.
one of my favourite peripheral preservations is tony hawk ride/shred on rpcs3. for years these games were entirely unplayable due to the skateboard controller being required to play both. in ~mid 2023, some work was done to get the skateboard controller input working with both games and now it works flawlessly (or at least as good as the original games worked)

If it was one of those games in the 2000's where the PC version was a lost cause, I would understand. But I would assume emulation would be more about playing games that either aren't actually available on PC or the version is terrible/worse/hard to run.
@@MoonOvIce I get what you're saying. There's no point in playing Bioshock. But it is interesting to see how it does anyways.
PS5 barely has ANY games - I'll take older emulated games over that library!
Seriously. The PS5 has been launched for 4 years and it doesn't feel like it. No games, no excitement about it, nothing.
cool video.
Why are you pronouncing "community" like that? This is the first time I am hearing someone saying like that
You should hear the way he pronounces computer
By constantly saying it this way, the engagement of the channel gets higher and higher which is great for content creators. Think verbal click bait
Im not even sure if its him being "cute" anymore seeing how he constantly bastardizes any word you has the hard "u" sound in it. He may have some kind of speech impediment. In which case, fair enough.
I'm excited for good ps3/360 emulation :)
Funny how this is still a topic when Bloodborne emulation is in the pipeline as though it's gonna be a playable experience.
Yeah I am waiting ps4 emulator to be polished because I cant play uncharted or infamous getting like 15-30 fps on rpcs3 it gives me motion sickness, ps4 emulator is gonna be way optimized than rpcs 3 in the future
A simple answer is get a gaming pc instead of a ps5 pro ... my laptop is a 2060 rtx [old[ and it runs ps3 and 360 fines just fine
Recently moved abroad with just 2 suitcases. All my 360 games and saves got backed up to a USB stick, and they work fine with Xenia Canary 🙏.
ALL your games?
Make another copy if you only have it on the USB.
Don't want to lose that.
@@DeBrandit yeah absolutely dude! I have the games and saves back up on a hard drive. Ide be cooked if i lost that 😭
Shit I hope so
Xenia is a great emulator for xbla games but it requires a fairly powerful computer to run the more demanding games.
I’ve been thinking of playing the Banjo games through that for a while since they were the best versions. Any experience with those? Do they run well or are they buggy?
@@MerryBlindI haven't finished them or gotten too far, but they are perfect. Now the 360 exclusive one, I tried it only once and it didn't work but yeah, haven't checked the last few months.
Is a 4070 with a 5600x with 32gb enough?
lol
RPCS3 is much more demanding. You can get by with a lesser pc with Xenia but not RPCS3.
I felt sad for Xenia Dev > RPCS3 More devs
@14:08 I'm sorry, the what?
we heard the same thing. lol
As someone whose favourite console of all time is the PS3, it is an absolute joy to see how far the emulation has come. I’m gonna have to spend some of my weekend dumping some games and reliving old memories
This is probably the best , cleanest emulation video on RUclips. I hope this goes straight to the top search results. Keep it up Jeff , you’re killing it.
Real homies remember the little big planet glitch to place items in your pod
TALK ABOUT THE PS3 NEEEEOOOOOOWWWWWW!!!!!
What about Desktop PCs will an i5 14600k 16 gb ddr5 rtx 4060 ti on windows 11 easily run these emulators and games ?
Easy, won´t have a problem since the laptop specs that they list are cutdown versions of the desktop variant always.
@@kurok1tenshi No way around that, can't cheat physics for the cooling.
That blue is teal
Great video bro!
Does it run well on the SteamDeck or should I only use PS3/360 emulator on my gaming PC? ( 55600X x 3070ti )
RPCS3 runs really well on the Deck
Not sure about something heavy like MGS4 and Uncharted, but stuff like Tekken 6, Tag 2 and Dante's Inferno runs just fine
PC. Deck can do maybe half of them at fullspeed
Ally can do most of the PS3 library well but overall the Deck isnt strong enough for the more demanding games
@ZimpanX I wanna play Anime and JRPGs PS3 games tbh. As for Xbox 360, I wish the Deck supported the Xbox app - then we could download xbox x series/one/360 games.
@notKaliKot Figured that was the case, appreciate it!
@@KaiserSenpai420 What anime games are you thinking about that are on PS3 that didn't get a PC release? (genuinely curious)
I agree with you fully that the excellent emulators that Microsoft have developed should also be available on PC and not require a modern Xbox.
Yo, Jeff, put out a PS3 video or something.
I played around with RPCS3 for a while and completed Killzone HD and Resistance 1, great emulator when it works. But the amount of problems with game crashes, weird graphics issues, low frames and all the custom configs you need to do on some games made me just go out and bought a PS3. Save the hassle :P
The devs on the 360 emulator have literally made almost 0 breakthroughs in years. Have 0 faith in the current dev team.
what are you on about? it's only recently games have become playable
@@DecibelAlex games have been playable for years. Had this setup on my Xbox series x as well.
No ui improvement, no Xbli improvement, all they've done is fix a few games that need some improvement that already ran if you knew what to do.
Because the old dev was super lazy and rude, I personally knew him.
@@BigBossLebowski have a look at the changelogs. there's at least one update every week addressing issues and improving performance at least since 2019, sometimes several updates per day. if it wasn't for that you would've never had it on your xbox series x
have a look at the changelogs. there's at least one update every week, sometimes several per day at least since 2019, addressing issues and improving performance so we don't need a supercomputer to play our games. if it wasn't for that you would've never had it on your series x
Man looking at LBP as yet another IP sony could easily make money off but ignore. Remake the trilogy with todays technology for PC also and theyd make $$$.
LONG LIVE ROCK BAND 3 DX
quality increase jesus
Yeah, PS3/XB360 emulation has been properly improved w/ QoL features to run a majority of their respective game libraries (but that doesn't mean they're all playable). You a half decade late, and a dollar short 🤣🤣🤣
What’s the game shown at 7:57?
Asura's wrath
There's a weird issue with the audio at 2:35 .....
Great video all round tho😊
yeah, that was bothering me too. I thought my headphones broke lol
In the words of my guy off that one movie 😂
I feel your pain bro. I am totally fine with my PS5 slim and my PS portal both latest models brand new out from PlayStation.
I am sure by the end of this year I will be able to buy the generic version of the 30th anniversary skins from a official website for the console, dual sense and my PS portal.
No skin off my teeth and really not a collector so it does not bother me as much as it does others that have hundreds of dollars to waste for a console that will be released again sometime after next year.
Let the skimmers have their shine they prepare for this one moment months ahead of time and came up with the/have money to do so.
I am good for what I got, there's really no difference between the two if you ask me
Just a group of individuals trying to be the first to follow the rest.
Matter of fact a new game just finished downloading on my PS5 😀 👍🏽 going to enjoy it while I can until the PS6 gets introduced late August 2026 at the same time GTA6 pre-orders will be announced..
This video feels like it would have been rendered in 2:1 aspect ratio lol
Best to use xeina canary
Great video what an exciting time! And to that head at Sony thinking no one wants to play older games because of graphics?! There's entire communities devoted to making new games look old! The emulation scene is alive and well my friends. Let them think no one cares, maybe they'll leave us alone haha.
I just want to let you know that I subscribed to you because you lay off the usual RUclips tropes. A breath of fresh air. And now I’m getting more into modern emulation because of you.
Damnit, Jeff.
Great video. I have been getting into the scene over the past year and it is truly amazing what these communities have been doing. People just want to play good old games.
Fuck Sony, Nintendo and Xbox. Fuck digital buying. The government has said you don’t own any games you buy digitally. SO PIRATE. PIRATE TO YOUR HEARTS CONTENT SAIL THE PIRATE BAY
Maaan, I'm aboutta spend hours setting up emulators just to play these old games I love for a couple minutes then never touch again for a few months 😭
Dude please, commOOnity???? you don't have like an accent or anything, why do you say it like this 😭
Good to see ya' getting that bag my man, been a subscriber since the very beginning and watching your channel grow has been wicked so far!
Can anyone help me? whenever I apply the black shade fix, the shading is still fucked up in game.
I remember little big planet 2 nights with my friends and my sister in the mornings

@@DammitJeff actually before school it was strictly America's Funniest Videos
can you just play ps3 games off the disc? i imagine lots of people's collections are bigger than a few terabytes.
Unfortunately no. I wish it did since I salvaged a blu-ray drive from my old laptop and can connect it to any PC via USB. My guess is that so few people have blu-ray drives on their computers that the devs never bothered implementing it.
Just decrypt the disc game and enjoy
Jeff.... ps3 video!!!!!!
18:09 yooo i played with the blue hat guy before haha
YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, ROCK BAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"cliffy"
Still waiting for that vita video
It's amazing that even now, after putting in the staggering amount of work that it takes to get an emulator working, devs will put literally zero effort into a front end or consider usability.
RPCS3's ui is really good. But Xenia is almost non-existent and is dependant of front-ends.
Bloodborne PC? 👉👈
Coomuity?
comuunity
Yeah... And you need an OBSCENELY POWERFUL PC for any of this to work.... If you HAPPEN to have it lying around then yeah.... Otherwise were better off just buying the hardware which is dirt cheap this days and modding it
Hey Jeff, good video. I was wondering what is your experience with the psp and ps vita, because i recently got a ps vita just to mod it and I've been having a fun time with the ports and homebrew.
Hey, if you wanna play MY favorite PS3/360 game with me please play armored core for answer it's really fun. There's PvP and co-op through RPCN and it runs on literally any PC I can think of as long as it has a GPU.
Nah, I'll keep waiting for OLED gaming laptops to stop costing $2,000+. I sold my 2023 ROG Strix G16 because I hated the badly calibrated, terrible contrast and brightness IPS screen, especially since every single other screen I use is OLED now (even my car's infotainment system). Once those OLED laptops cost around 1600, I'm buying one again.
0:55 istg gaming phones are like using a nuke to kill a fly, like deadass the only game that really takes advantage of that power is Warzone Mobile, and let's just say that's not the best game...
And yes you may say Switch or PS2 emulation, but any $250-300+ mid range phone can do it, I know it because my main phone is just $250 and can
I thought PS3 Emulation was sloppy because anything i wanted to play on it such as Metal Gear Solid 4 and God of War Ascension were super buggy and had low performance even on my powerful machine. And my
PS3 suffered the YLOD so thats just great…
great video man. playstation needs a shake up and return to its former glory but that might take a while.
we have come a long way.. i remember when the Xbox 360 emulation kept crashing
EDIT: also, i'm surprised Sony gave access to their BIOS file for free
I tried PS3 emulation for Motorstorm Apocalypse and it ran smooth, but no matter what settings I used, the image looked incredibly blurry. It's almost as if the resolution settings never made a difference
Framerate limit is misleading, it actually caps the game to half of what the limit is
You have to set it to 120 to get 60 FPS
There’s probably an explanation, but it’s isn’t obvious what it is
3 & 4
It's very nice when random RUclipsrs play on the LBP custom servers. i've been playing beacon servers since private beta and been having a blast!
Now you need to checkout Bloodborne running on a PS4 emulator. It's been developing really fast!
Using Lossless Scaling you can use frame generation in emulators. I'm playing God of War 3 at 4K 120FPS; it looks and plays great.
Does controller vibrates on these emulators ? Do they sense pressure sensors ?
Grew up in this era, can't wait to try this out!
It's funny when you say you grown up with x360 or PS3. xD I wasn't a kid and I've had Commodore 64. Talking 'bout a POV. PS. 9:56 I had similar issue with PSX. When I opened up the beast the conclusion was simple. Solder on the power socket got burned out. Whole repairing process took a minute. I wonder what happened in your case. There was also a piece of advice I've found on one of the forums. When you end playing on PS3 Slim leave it for some time working, so the cooler will lower GPU's temperature. Otherwise it will start making cracking noises.
Thanks for your vid. (Gonna try the switch jailbreak)
The amount of tier 18 GLAZING going on when it comes to this laptop and Xenia manager is unheard of😢
