I’ve been loving all of these interviews from different Appalachian storytellers. All of them have been unique conversations, with fascinating stories! Keep them coming🤎
I like that you interviewed someone who isn’t originally from here, but CHOSE to be here and get his perspective on the area, to help show people the opinions of previous locals you’ve interviewed isn’t necessarily a biased one, but that many people feel this way about Appalachia! A true testament to the area! I enjoyed listening to this man and hearing of his interesting profession. Well done!
Amen! Love this storyteller interview/video. Love that he is taking his choice to spread more positivity. He has a great attitude toward being a storyteller and what it means to be one. Burk's Garden is a beautiful place. Another great video! Keep them coming!
I appreciate that he has bucked the "normalcy bias" and intentionally chosen to call Appalachia his home, using his powers for good to tell the enduring stories of the region. Thanks for watching!
I really enjoyed this interview and Rey's comments about the community and what I will call "the Appalachian spirit", hoping that is clear enough. Yes, there is far too much negativity and toxicity coming at us from many directions, and I appreciate his commitment to telling stories about the good people and the good things they are doing. I realized that this same positivity is a hallmark of the videos you produce as well, Josh. Parenthetically, it was cool to be familiar already with "Blackberry Winter" and the work that organization does! I concur with his statement that it is in Appalachia and not on the coasts where America truly is. The determination, open heartedness, and transparency of the region's people tugs at me, they really do. :)
As Rey said, he is now using his powers for good- highlighting the good work that good people are doing across Appalachia...notwithstanding the cards dealt them!
We LOVE hearing from YOU in the comments! Let us know if you have a story to tell, or know someone who does!!
Rey really articulated the essence of what constitutes being an Appalachian, particularly the non pretentious and ingenuous nature of the people.
Excellent observation!

Exactly! He & his wife chose to be in Appalachia, and I truly appreciate his perspective.

I love Rey's passion for storytelling. We need more people sharing the beautiful stories of Appalachia!
We're trying to give voice to them here! That's why we want to know if folks have a story to tell, or know someone who does 😊
