I think "the bubble wars" is a very US specific problem. I've lived in other countries and in general we don't even use the same messaging apps as the US. There's no such difference in texts. The survey that said that 87% of teens have iPhones must be from the US. I am almost certain that the price point of apple products, at least in Brazil, makes it so Android products are the majority owned by teens - this is coming from my own observation, not a deeply formal reasearch. So in my mind it's a very privileged and kind of absurd demand to mock someone from their color of messages, besides being a very specific and localized prejudice only to those who use that messaging app that makes that difference in colors.
Yea I agree it’s a US specific issue. I’m from US but work for Austrian company with plenty of nationalities all working with me. Majority of them don’t have iPhones but we ALL communicate with WhatsApp. Literally none of them using the default texting apps
In Germany the main app everyone uses to text is WhatsApp and not iMessage or Google Messages. I think it stems from phone companies not making SMS messaging free (even today messaging directly between phones isn't free on most reasonably priced contracts between two different providers). So eventually everyone started using WhatsApp because it was basically free SMS when smartphones first got sold. I still remember that even WhatsApp wasn't free and I had to pay some one time price when I first signed up. But it was just worth it in comparison to our horrible phone provider prices.
I want to keep my green bubble because I'm 28 years old and I think it's hilarious that other people in their late 20s actually complain about the color of a text bubble.

The ecosystem caters to their needs by working pretty seamlessly and integrating their products in most ways they are interested in. These people don't want to tinker with technology, sideload apps or find creative workarounds. Kinda antithetical to software engineers, huh?
Me personally? As long as I can go to the apple store and see a RAM upgrade for 4-6x the price of the hardware, my blood pressure will forever prevent me from buying an Apple product. Because I am not the target demographic.
black "friday" stopped feeling like black friday when stores both brick and mortar and online decided to make "friday" last like 1-3 months, same with cyber "week" its somehow turned into a month+ and it gets to a point where you ask why aren't these "discounted" prices not the normal prices.. so a time of the year when i thought i could get a deal i feel as if im being scammed even more so than before
It's all good I'm running Alchemist Tower, Spike Factory, and Village, these "bubbles" which are just bloons drones don't stand a chance!
This is such a US thing to be so elitist and polarized over the brand of phone people use.
only Big A and a ridiculously well-endowed anime fox girl can talk about text bubbles for 10 minutes and have me listen
I'm not sure who you're referencing, but I feel I agree
I have to give Apple credit. It's honestly terrifying how they have cultivated the majority of society into thinking they need to have an iPhone.
American society* the rest of the world uses WhatsApp or WeChat lol
The poor are complaining again
@@richpryor9650 you are the epitome of the average Apple user.

@@richpryor9650 Hey look, a Tim meatrider!
About 5 years ago I broke my Macbook Retina screen. I couldn't buy just a new screen so I had to buy a 3rd party one; it worked great for a year or two then apple pushed out a software update that broke the screen brightness adjustment. Basically my LCD was full brightness all the time, I could use an app to change it but they just removed the function to adjust the screen in the update. That was when I quit buying there products.
I love the wassup bejing design, the design of marketing monday is awesome
1:30 It's literally not on Reddit, it says right there: "[Tell HackerNews]"
Missed opportunity to include Snoop’s response to the internet going crazy, saying ‘I was high when I tweeted that’ - made me laugh so hard

This is not antitrust. You don’t need iMessage
@@GazMatic no antitrust is when a company makes it harder for users to switch/ adds propietary bullshit for the purpose of preventing users from ever using other services
W to that student who sold his program and got the bag💰
What bothers me way more than apple’s bubble situation is the egregious prices they charge to upgrade memory and ssd space and they make it non upgradable. They literally charge like 10x+ what it would cost to get it yourself
Back when I was in the US, I primarily remember communicating with everyone that I knew through Facebook messenger. Since leaving, I've primarily used LINE, so the idea of communicating using text messages feels pretty archaic. The only time I get text messages these days is for stuff like verifying phone numbers.
As someone currently living in the US, 100% accurate for me. I only use texts for my family that's over 50 years old....
My little sister bought a used iPhone 7 just so she'd have blue bubbles. iPhone users are a cult at this point.
yep
And once you're in the ecosystem, thats it, its joever for ya. They got you in a choke hold by having their own quirky charging cables for every damn device to their own terrible OS to their own appstore to their own earbuds and watches to their own stylus with a battery in it 🤣
Honestly their horrifyingly predatory marketing tactics is why I stick to free-market android, that isnt being bear hugged by one over priced company
@@Amodh1257 apple does a lot of annoying stuff but I don't see how their marketing is "horrifyingly predatory". No one is forcing you to get an iphone
@@-Sai Average brainwashed apple user, like did you read anything I wrote? Sure they dont force you to get an iphone but they damn well force you to buy all of THEIR products the second you buy one of em, by artificially cutting support to the rest. That is downright scummy and predatory period.
@@-Sai 80% of teens that have a phone have an iPhone its about fitting it, that is predatory, preying on children's NEED to fit in. Which we do literally need, because we are social animals
Another day, another victory for the coffee cows
Growing up poor, my first apple product was an ipod mini gifted to me on Christmas. The issue was I didn’t have a pc or laptop so I had no way of storing music on that thing lol, had to download itunes on a friend’s pc to transfer music to that thing.
if someone "gets an ick" from green bubbles it's just a good indicator not to talk to that person
8:00 funny those leaked messages were from the Apple v Epic lawsuit
This one was packed I loved it! A lot of info to flex on non-Atrioc viewers tomorrow
The coffee cow with another milky marketing monday!! HE NEVER DOESNT HIT
If you have the mental time to worry about if your bubble is blue or not, u most likely could afford to acquire an iPhone
I guess I was lucky that no one I went to high school with ever brought up the green bubble but if they had I would've told them to fuck off and move on lol.
I didn’t think he could do marketing Monday on Monday
As someone who works in the delivery industry. I hate that Black Friday has moved to primarily online. So many more people are buying way more things online that I've seen delivery drivers with so many packages they can't even fit them all in their truck.
"Guy named Snazzy Tech" LOOOOOOOL. Marketing people do really don't know tech ppl :D
i stopped getting even an ounce of shit for owning an android when i got a folding phone. seeing a phone unfold into a mini tablet with no creases in the screen drops jaws. ill even take their phone and jokingly try to bend it and act surprised. like "wow i didnt know they still made phones like this, its so retro". if im being a real asshole, i'll ask em if they couldn't afford a foldable
I'm 32
I used to get shit on in school for not having Nike clothing (UK) and I remember getting my first pair of expensive trainers (no one gave a fuck)
Kids will do anything to differentiate themselves from others. Back then, Nike Shocks, or Nike Presto cost around £120
In retrospect I'm lucky that it wasn't this era that required my parents to pay £1000 on an iPhone
the real winner is this solo developer high schooler who struck gold and then realized it would get banned so they sold it and probably got a Nice payout
Ngl if someone's so damn shallow that a green bubble is their determining factor as to if they will be in a relationship with me gotta say I'm happy that they were so nice as to show me that they are more shallow than a kiddy pool early on thats such a kind gesture
So glad I live in a part of the world where literally nobody used imessage
14:37 RAAAHHHH KLARNA MENTIONED 🇸🇪🇸🇪🇸🇪🔥🔥
The doom music on Black Friday when we were kids atrioc I can’t man you’re too damn funny.
Apple gets way less shit for this on HackerNews than they should. The bubble coloring is absolutely vile and petty.
shoutout to the solo teen dev getting the bag from this
If we fix the text bubble war we'll have world peace
Big A breaking new ground saying breaking consumer information law is "ballsy" people have a right to know when they're being sold to at all times zero exceptions

The only phones I've ever had since middle school (which is not many bc I like computers more) were samsungs. I literally made less friends and talked to less people throughout school compared to other kids because conversations nowadays happen mostly over text. I couldn't really talk to people with how much of a headache it is to text people.
idk bout other people but game pidgeon needing iPhones to work matters way more to the people I know than bubbles
As a current highschool teen with an android in the United States of America. I have yet to run into a situation where ut is a real problem. People use mostly second party messagers anyway like Snapchat, Instagram, or discord and the times we have had to traditionally text atost i have gotten is a "uh you have an android uh ok" and maybe like a joke about how apple is better than android. But i still get added to the chats and invited to parties and to hang out and stuff and it is rarely a big deal. Maybe if you go to school in like a big highschool or in like new york people care but most people don't really care. Do not push you family outside of your financial means just so you can get essentially the same rectangle (unless you are a nerd) just because of a bubble color, although if apple is less expensive or is better for you than get that who cares.
Nomadic asian here, funny how this problem is just an NA thing. In Japan and Thailand we use Line, in Korea we use Kakao, in Indo we use Whatsapp (and probably in other places too)
I hate trash iPhones, that kid was a G.
Honestly if I got bullied for having android in groups chats, maybe I'm going to show them that I have more games than Nintendo switch with emulations. I don't know how but I've seen my nephew try to open business retro games rental in school by using his android phone, untill teacher get in their way. Teacher doesn't stop bullying but they will stop kids doing business.
My stupid Samsung S23 Ultra costs more than most newer iPhones.
Apple is just a monopoly under the guise of good marketing.
I'm an android user and I don't really care about the green bubble but I'm so glad I can finally send videos to my family
The last I ever used SMS or heard of anyone using SMS was the nokia brick days. Like straight up even elderly folk have moved on. It just feels so cringe and old fashioned to care about the bubbles
Atrioc saying back when I was growing up and then showing 2013 when he was already 40 is crazy ngl

I straight up dont want them to change the color on iphone. If someone is so shallow that my phone brand matters to them, they can weed themselves out of my dating pool asap.
My S21 Ultra gets recognized as an Apple watch. Has for the past year. All you've gotta do is get your provider to check a box. What's Apple gonna do? Sue my cell provider? Call your provider today all ask nicely, they'll do it.
That's hilarious and beautiful
The green bubble thing is definitely classicm repackaged as fun little gen z memes lmao
Okay I feel like this is a good time to ask: Is the whole "green vs. blue" thing just a mostly american thing or something? Cause I've never heard anyone mention it here, and it seems like you would need to have something wrong with your head to actually care about the color of someone's texts
Yes. The rest of the world just uses smth like WhatsApp anyway
What she said. It’s so dumb but Apple did come out with 471 emojis in 2008 for their Japan market only. They weren’t first but they had the real first smartphone so they were obviously trademarked. Now it’s just stupid. Android is fine but I prefer privacy. I update every 4 year s or so but most of the hate comes from Android users, we Apple phone users are just higher class. 😂

Note on Wazzup Beijing: Atrioc said that the Taiwanese government has rescinded its claim on mainland China; however, this is not true, as the Taiwanese Government (the ROC) still does claim to the be the government of all China-in fact, it is part of their constitution.
yeah i’m south korean and the telecom companies here have a monopoly. to my knowledge netflix and youtube have done negotiations directly with the korean government to bypass these fees & twitch tried to do the same thing but failed. i watch a bunch of streamers here and they have to move to youtube/naver (naver is korean google, as soon as the news broke they instantly hit up all the big korean twitch streamers to get them on their new site), also unlike what atrioc said i think most people aren’t going to afreeca because it’s a very different environment?
anyways super sad because twitch is still the best environment for viewers as well.

what i think is funny is alot of iphone users go to burn is "your poor" but the majority of androids are not only starting to cost more than iphones but actually have features improved upon due to them being produced by tons of companies vs apple just reshaping the iphone slightly every year
Finally, a video that reaches my level of expertise and insight. Almost. 😏 #SettingTheBar

as a taiwanese american who doesn't know anything about the politics of taiwan, it was cool to get a broad overview of what's going on with the election. i think more coverage of taiwan in marketing mondays could be helpful since the country is a political tension point between the US and china while also enabling much of the world's advanced technology
I never realized this was a thing. Then again I surround myself with mature people
As an iphone user, I have never (willingly) used iMessage in my life and I find this whole “war” thing funny.

I'm pretty the sure the green bubble bullying problem is made out to me way worse than it actually is in the sources Atrioc found. I graduated from high school in 2022 and I never even knew about green bubbles as an android user, let alone getting bullied for the kind of phone I have.
Imagine using an OS that requires the skills of a toddler and judging others for not using it.
As for European, this whole bubble war seems so fucking bizzare I had trouble believing it's true for first couple minutes. I mean, I'm sure there are snob bubbles around Yropp with problems such as these... but I literally heard first time in my life that anybody gives a shit about bubble color. That''s so fucking bizzare.

It is hilarious how apple users will blame android users for using an android even tough it's the company they buy their phones from that causes the problem
