But they also gave DJI rebuttal space and didn't cut out ex-DJI partner Colin Guinn's positive comments about DJI even though he could have slagged them off and/or FT could have cut out any positive remarks.
DJI drones are not cheap at all. They have best tech in civilian drones. Even Russia and Ukraine are both using DJI civilian drones for throwing bombs from the air, as they have no other ways to turn to.

14:08 thats Whampoa Military Academy, a former KMT military academy that ceased operations after 1949, now exists as a historical heritage site as a symbol of national independence. This is not much different from the British visiting the Imperial War Museum or Americans visit the Independence Hall. The fact that the FT didn't realize or look into it, and just jumping to conclusions surprised me
Minor corrections-- it was moved to Nanking in 1928 and the institution is still functioning in Taiwan. But as you said, the site is literally just a museum.
It's honestly kind of arrogant to think China's military production base cannot self supply their own drones. Look, China has an automated missile production factory, they got logic chip sourced from private companies, steel/nitrocellulose from SOE.
Frankly this is a bit embarrassing. Got out competed, both in the tech and the price, then had to out right ban them. If it is a security risk then it wouldnt be a tariff it should be a ban. Yet banning them from being sold in the us doesnt mean it can't be used or people can just buy it from elsewhere. This is not solving the security issue
There is no security risk for flying DJI drones. 1. If you want your flight to be secret, you fly it offline. 2. Your flight data is stored in microSD.
These journalists didn't even spend the time trying to understand the situation. For instance, the Army Official School shown on 14:12 is a cultural heritage facility for the legendary Huangpu Armny Official School, which provided many army officials to the army under the governance of the Nationalist Party (aka: Kuomintang) which has fled to Taiwan after the Chinese civil war. This school is no longer in use. Anyone who understands the difference between Traditional Chinese and Simplified Chinese characters can see this. Also, temporary (from half a day to a week) military training is commonly adopted by schools and organisations in China as this training is viewed beneficial to improve students and employees' strength, perseverance and team playing sprit. It is sad that the misunderstanding between two cultures have been manipulated by some ppl to promote their own political agendas.
Skydio has world leading obstacle avoidance, which they can still use to compete with DJI - yet they choose to back out of the consumer market while lobbying. As a DJI fan, I would have 100% bought a foldable Sykdio 3 with just 30 minutes of battery life and 5km range (Skydio 2 was $999 USD, around 20 minutes battery life, 2km range, not foldable) - not even asking for DJI's level of 45 minutes of battery life and 20km of range.
Even DJI haters have to admit that their drones are the best at that price, the only way to block them is to find excuses related to national security.
How does a tariff make sense? The American companies that invest in China would just sell to other markets instead of the US. Making stuff in the US is simply not economical no matter which market you sell to.
We sell them one Boeing they have to sell millions of drones. Bring the drones on. Let's beggar the b*****. Now Boeing stop making planes that can't stay in the air
Also, from the Chinese comment below 14:08 is a historically important but already defunct military school (we call it museum), it has free entrance but require reservation. And those "military combat clothes" you can get them from Temu or something. Mind you PLA military-specified production facilities are not allow to sell their stuff to civilian economy, wonder why? Because they are too competitive.
I have a DJI Ronin 4D because it is so convenient to use. I do wish other companies made such a camera because their codecs are better than DJI such as Australian company Blackmagic, but they haven't (yet)!
It's quite funny! The proof of DJI's Chinese military connection is a photo taken in front of a museum? Yes, the old army school was famous 100 years ago, and has been a museum for many decades.
The Chinese model of subsidy generally provides financial support at the developmental phase of an industry, and once the business take off the support will diminish. This is the same philosophy of how they fight poverty in recent years. In the West, the government instead often subsidize big inefficient businesses that are too big to fail.

Ok, so should every country also ban US manufactured drones? It's not protectionism, it's because of security, of course.
wow, lt will bring huge need for the US to pay more attention to these countries human right situation and debates about if they are

How many Consumer grade US made drones do you know of?? Please do name me some..
actually its because of INsecurity
US manufactured drones don't exist, They were bankrupted due to DJI
USA: When we lose, we ban capitalism, this is US exceptionalism
If Skydio spent as much money on actually building drones as they spend on buying FT articles maybe they wouldn't be crippled by Chinese sanctions.
