I first started seeing people talk about being injected with streamers' steaming hot creamy gooey content under tarik comment sections. why is everyone like this now
My marketing win goes to Atrioc for having such an inconsistent upload schedule that he gets me to watch the uploads to his VOD channel expecting them not to make it to main, only to then watch them here as well when they do make it.

God the bigolas dickolas one is painful because it's too real. It feels painful how obvious it is that companies just see us for our wallets and will do literally anything they think will turn a profit. I'm at the point where the only advertising that works on me is where I can at least pretend there is some amount of authenticity (Ryan Reynolds' Mint Mobile ads come to mind). I'm infinitely more willing to spend money on something based off a single recommendation in a reddit thread than based off any amount of endorsements/sponsorships. Growing up, my parents used to trust Consumer Reports for almost any appliance they wanted to buy, but now it's just full of products who paid to be put there. Sad to see how the way corporations interact with the internet just completely erodes trust.
I wish we never entered the era where companies became so comfortable being part of our personal lives. Like no, I am not your buddy. Tell me what the product you're selling can do so that I can move on with my day ffs.
Yep, my go to for book recommendations is just reddit now. I need to see a real person who loved the book enough to give it a passionate recommendation and that will convince me more than any amount of critics with ARCs from the publisher or awards or marketing. My favorite book of the last decade I literally passed by on the bookstore shelf without a second thought half a dozen times completely disinterested, until I read a youtube comment from someone who really seemed to love it and their authenticity shined through. Picked it up, fell in love with it, bought the whole series, the audiobooks, and then press ganged my friends into reading it too. On the other hand, the two books I most regret reading last year were from top award winning lists.

The funniest thing about the Bigolas stuff is that it made Max a NYT bestseller for the first time in his career. My parents are good friends with him and those weeks were such a hysterical time to be alive.
Yo big A, since last year, when you released that video with Stan and Ludwig about climbing, it inspired me to try out bouldering myself around that time. I ended up becoming addicted and going 3 to 4 times a week for 3 to 4 hours each session. Where credit is due, you’re not the only reason why I started to climb, but you were a part of it. I’m on a climbing team and looking forward to move to the next level this spring, and just beat my PR of holding off of a 6 mm hold on the fingerboard. Just thought you should know. The wingstop promotion reminds me of the Pizza Hut Canada breadsticks promotion with the Vancouver Titans for free breadsticks in 2021. They had to keep lowering the requirements for the breadsticks challenge until Vancouver finally won a game (they went 1-15 that season)

This is How You Lose the Time War is such a good book tbh, I was super happy to see it getting so much recognition this year.
Tbh anymore we just tune out ads, and even critics and experts and award committees I think don't really hold much sway with people, but a random nobody who hasn't had anything to do with books in the past liking something enough to make a bunch of really heartfelt tweets recommending it actually makes me interested in checking it out. Anymore I won't read anything that's not been really passionately recommended by someone who clearly loves it, bc there's so much mediocre commercial stuff designed to be palatable to everyone but not inspire any strong emotions. I'd rather read something unique and ambitious that I hated but I know someone will love than some generic trend chasing slop like Babel that everyone will rate 7/10.
There was a very similar story to the Wingstop one with Pizza Hut in the Overwatch League, they sponsored the Vancouver Titans in a budget cut year where they were just absolutely fucking dogshit. The original deal was just free breadsticks if Titans just went to map 5 in a bo5 set but as weeks went on they failed to even do that. Eventually they changed to this bingo format where the breadsticks came free if certain events happened (like a triple kill ultimate or someone getting a certain number of kills and shit like that, sports betting stats essentially). The issue was that Titans weren't even acomplishing this either, occasionally they'd hit a couple squares but never 3 in a row,so it became this waiting game where everyone would come together every week and watch the Titans get absolutely run over but still keenly paying attention in the hopes of hitting bingo.
Eventually Titans not only got bingo, but they got their first win of the season after like 7/8 months, and same as the Pistons the story wasn't even about them. Everyone in the community rejoiced and subsequently went to order some breadsticks only to discover that the deal only applied to a handful of locations in western Canada. Not only did they have the entire community talking about their brand as a meme for months on end but I doubt they had to give out even a dozen free breadstick orders in the end.
It's probably the only ever succesful sponsorship in OWL history, and even mutually succesful. As the bingo had thousands of people glued to the screen for a team that was otherwise a complete writeoff. Also just spiritually Pizza Hut sponsoring the most mediocre and unexciting team in the league just felt correct, we all found a sincere appreciation for trash that season.

Here in Spain this new year, one out of the two top private tv channels made a marketing move. Moments before the countdown, the show hoster lost his necklace live,, the channel went to ads just seconds before the countdown, and the necklace appeared in the add like a two company collaboration. Unexpected tbh

I work in the beverage market. The last time I saw "Prime" on a pallet in the warehouse was when he first rolled it out. We moved the display from the front because after the initial hype, they just stopped selling. We can't get rid of the remaining stock we have. If that makes anyone who hates Logan Paul feel better. It's obnoxiously sweet with 0 sugar. Do the math, that shit probably melts your insides.
