Remember the steel choice is not just a concept. The Hissatsu was designed specifically for our military. I train some of the SpecOps community and have a very personal stake in their success. I personally know the consequences of failure for them. The length of the Hissatsu is also very specific to the task it was designed for. We do have 2 new knives coming out that will be announced at SHOT in January that you might find interesting.
    Stay safe,
    James

Thanks Mr. Williams. Bought a Shobu Raptor about 3 months back and got the Hisshou for Father's Day/B-day. I absolutely love them both.

As a Security and LP specialist I've owned the original Hissatsu in the past and still EDC my Hissatsu Folder since 2008. I plan on saving up for that Hisshou and maybe picking up that Otanashi Noh Ken folder to replace my old Hissatsu folder. Williams is a great knife designer and even better teacher. Keep up the great collaboration work with Sensei Williams, CRKT!

Indeed. I also got a V42 stiletto dagger but I don`t like the pointed pommel and rounded handle of it compared to the hissatsu and hisshou.

Please make a longer Hisshou with a round tsuba (guard). Basically a short wakizashi specifically for modern warfare.

Your blades are the ones that got me to consider knife collecting. I plan on ordering a Hissatsu (folder and Fixed blade) to start my collection. From all the reviews and demos I've seen, your traditional tanto style is my favorite. I'm sure the boys overseas who own this knife are glad they have it. The only major complaint I hear is the kind of steel you use. I'm not one to use them for battle but possibly in the future these can see a steel upgrade? That'd be amazing.

We still make the Hissatsu. We stopped offering the non assisted version because nobody wanted it. Cancel your order and order the 2903.

If you grasp the knife properly you can stab it through 1/2" piece of plywood without any problem, and that is down to the thumb stud. It will also easily penetrate the chest, breaking the rib in the process. This has been done in the later application, and demonstrated in the former many times. Understanding how to use the knife properly is essential.

440A was chosen for a reason. It is tougher and more corrosion resistant than most of the higher stainless steels. This is a very focused knife. The harder the steel the more brittle it gets. Here we want a tough knife that can also be easily resharpened in the field.

I own the folder and fix blade hissatsu really love them. I am not a huge fan of the handle material on the fixed blade. I do like the shape.
Looking forward to seeing what you come up with next

I own all of the knifes made by James. They are great for what they are intended for. Now I have let some of my friends use the folder. The only thing they did not like was the size of the thumb screw. The suggestion was to make the thumb screw 5-10 mm bigger for those who have different size of hand. one of them did make some orders. He only uses knifes, period. Now if I ever saw him with a sidearm that would be a red flag for me.

I have the hissatsu folder, the handle shape is admittedly odd and questionable at first but after testing this blade, I can assure you there will be no slippage unless you have an incorrect or weak grip. The blade shape provides such effortless penetration that anything short of mahogany or steel will not create enough resistance for your hand to slip.

  • @schlooonginator

I agre with this post. I read manu forums and most really like the design BUT are steel snobs too. I seriously beleive you would sell much more product using different steels. 440C at least for folders and even a good treated 1095 for the Hisshou. I can understand the desire for SS but carbon is superior for larger blades and it worked for the Japanese for centuries.

@kephrarubin I almost forgot, when I emailed CRKT about it, they told me it was designed primarily as a stabber and I shouldn't expect it to cut... are you kidding me? No refund, no discount on another knife, no trade in for replacement in case it was just a bad heat treatment etc. horrible customer service. The Hisshou seems to function better from what I've seen, but i just don't trust CRKT anymore, I bought a pharoah folder after a while and it arrived rusted, that was the last straw.

@kephrarubin Agreed. It's supposed to strictly be a stabber with no handguard, WHAT RUBBISH! I have the Hissatsu folder and I can tell you, that grip design is far too weak for me to want to risk stabbing with in self-defense. Deployment is great, it's a good slash-and-dash weapon to give you the chance to escape an attack but if you stab with it, your hand WILL slip onto the blade. That finger-groove is a joke and the handle gets wider towards the bottom instead of the top!

Hissatsu was disappointing at best. Could not cut through jean material, doubtful if it would cut 1000 denier nylon. Tip bends easily, any impact on hard surface (mag carrier, heck even someone's watch) and the tip is gone, mine bent with a meager stab into a piece of pine. I gave it to my Marine buddy, he stopped carrying it quickly. The handle is terrible, he would have cut his hand during a stab where his hand slipped, thankfully the knife can't cut so it didn't make it through his glove.

Was it designed for fork lift operators, cash register operators, knife component stamping, grinding machine operators? Please narrow down the design intent. ;)
