Sadly it's discontinued but there is a very similar 4.5" blade called the Yukanto that was made by CRKT. I keep coming back to this video & am very tempted to grab a CRKT HZ6 as I've missed too many production knives that are now discontinued & ridiculously priced. I work as a Private Security Cobtractor & Exe university Protection so it will likely find a home on my vest.
平造り (Hira-zukuri)... I never thought that our Japanese blade system is taken into the knife world. Hira-zukuri is high flat grind (Actually, it is not grinded but hammered) and good for piercing. We normally use this styled blade as 鎧通し (Yoroi - doshi) which is close to Misericordia in European nations. Is this knife in your video used for knife fighting?
When I purchased my HZK 6.5 in brown burlap micarta the guy stated there were only 3 made? I don't know. I have the SZK in 4.5 in black burlap Elmax Apocalyptic Finnish. Made by TRC .love both, but Winkler looks old school and represents. I have a winkler lost lake camp knife and axe, and a CRK knives large sebenza PDW kraken.
I'm trying to get a hold on one of these but it's fucking impossible. One was on ebay for 700 plus but its hard to pull the trigger on that. I've satisfied my craving with the Yukanto and Hira zukuri.
Sweet looking knives! What's your favorite martial art? Since I started watching your channel it looks like you know what you're doing! I have trained in the martial arts...I studied tang-su-do and some weapons.. it's what got me into knives!

No. The Hissatsu is produced by CRKT and is designed by James Williams. Although "Hissatsu" does indeed refer to a specific type of classical Japanese blade design. But these Winkler made ones are all Hira Zukuri style tantos.
Winkler makes some great knives & this is one of my favorite designs though some of James' "esoteric" "martial" arts training makes me chuckle as I think of some of the silly Aikido & Dim Mak garbage that was so popular in the 80s & early 90s before we saw first hand what does & doesn't work in a mixed martial arts fight & combat. Good review but I may have missed you even once mentioning the steel used, HRC, weight, proportions other than 6"&9" & possibly even the cost/value. I have really considered the CRKT versions of these two for those of us on a more limited budget. Would really love both of those & while the 9" would be a fun kitchen knife it would be my choice for a duel, but the 6" is as long as I would want to carry on me for combat or self defense as often when you are justified or find out you need to deploy a knife for combatives you are likely entangled with your opponent. Thanks for sharing these deadly beauties!

@@TK-wd7de With a hammer grip or sabre grip your hand will not move forward on this handle. It has plenty of traction. In a reverse grip and pikal grip you place your thumb on the rear of the handle before stabbing anything and that will effectively prevent your hand from moving on it. Also, it is such a capable design for piercing....like a dagger....that it near effortlessly penetrates any materialistic you stab it in. Certainly human tissue is not going to be a problem for it and that is exactly the medium it's designed for.
I have wanted a Williams/Winkler Hira Zukuri for years, and I have given up on ever getting one. These knives are so controlled/limited in their availability that they are pretty well impossible to get. That's not on Dan Winkler, though. Winkler knives are readily available through Winkler dealers. If you order directly from Winkler, the wait is 4-8 months, depending on which knife/axe you order. That is not the case for the Hira Zukuri knives, though. Sensei Williams, PLEASE: Make these knives available to all of us in an open edition, not limited edition!
Winkler execution.... simply amazing!
Beautiful designs by Williams and execution by Winkler! I have the 6-in commercial Columbia River version and it's pretty cool as well...m 🗡️👊👍
Thank you. I thought I had seen one before.
Is there anywhere to buy this style between CRKT and Winkler?
Subbed to your channel.

Super cool knife. Love the profile. Reminds me of my Ronin Torii I got from Spartan Blades which I absolutely love.
just like the Scottish dirk and the rondel dagger the Zukuri is a single edged but thrust orientated design

It's designed pretty exclusively for martial use.
Those look amazing!
These are some beautiful blades.
I have the crkt model.. huge fan.. wishing the hisshou was still in production… should have NEVER parted with mine 😂
Thanks for the share of these beautiful James Williams knives by Winkler.

As far as anti-personnel fixed blades go, James’ knives seem to have a wheelhouse of their own.

The 002 is not the serial number. It's the batch number.
I have an HZO 003 and an HZK 004.
Awesome video, great blades… need them both 😍🙌🏽🔪
Great video Bob, made the knives look good! 💯🔥👏

Where can you get these at???
What fixed blade you rocking in your edc carry short video?
WINKLER!!!!
Nice knives. I thought they were called Hissatsu (sp).
Pretty mean to show these to us when they are sold out!

The felt is to keep your knife scratch free, not for silence. The felt would not last long. Leather is silent.

Shame about the huge secondary grind. Otherwise, very cool designs.
Why is that a shame? And they're not "huge".
but extremely expensive and for that price it is not worth it, thanks
Not worth it to you. But worth it to anyone who really loves these blades. What something is "worth" is highly subjective.
That is a horrible fighting knife theres no hand guard
No. You don't understand how to use it.
