@@chrishelbling3879 I probably should have gone to the classes instead of skipping them. Either way, my life turned out just fine, I don't think skipping a few classes made that much of a difference.
Try Ted's hotdogs out of Buffalo NY. It's all about the cooking style and charcoal but I'm confident you can pull it off! They have won best hotdogs in NY for decades
I am always amazed by the energy that goes into even the smallest details in everything you do. I watch every video of yours and am thrilled every time 👍👍👍
Very much enjoyed the video! I think you did the right thing by investing in the authentic Walter's dogs, as expensive as they were. I'm definitely going to make your version of the mustard and also try the butterfly technique. Good job!
Thanks for the review. I grew up in Mamaroneck and attended the high school across the street from Walter's, so know and love their hot dogs, and use the same technique at home to get the better Maillard reaction and crispness. The double is my go-to as the ratio of dog to bun it even better, especially since the mix Walter's uses is more mild. Ex-residents will drive hours to eat there. Walter's also makes good fries and shakes. It was the place we all went to at halftime during Saturday afternoon football games. One helpful hint: the town's name is pronounced, "Ma-marrow-neck" and not "Marrow-neck" -- the name comes from an Indigenous word used for the area.
70 dollars! Wow! I appreciate your commitment. I’m think you should have made your own at that cost. You’re skilled enough to make the same if not better.
Thanks for the shout out Greg! They are good hot dogs and that mustard really works well with the overall flavor. When I run out of the mustard I'll have to give your concoction a try.
Years ago we used to go to a place shopping. Nearby they had a little mon-n-pop restaurant. They had a unique bun for their hotdogs. It was a spit top. They would use a roller to butter the buns before putting them into a toaster made for toasting the hotdog buns. They had a homemade brown mustard as well. I've a decades-old recipe for a hotdog sauce (Chili) from another little place that served dogs way back in the 40s and 50s.
Walter’s also sells their hot dogs in DeCicco grocery stores in Westchester for people who want to make the copycat with the actual dogs for Westchester residents that don’t want to use goldbelly.
Amazing how hotdogs can be different from so many places. Love how you split them down the middle. Wow $$$ you should have invited some subscribers to form a line out front and served them up. Another great cookout you've done.
Hi Greg, it's Mike Florence and yet ANOTHER GREAT HOT DOG from you here. I've already posted a long comment re the EXCELLENT IRON CHEF 2.0 Burger. Well, it looks a simple Hot Dog but, the quality of the Dog and your Mustard Spread? Looks a real WINNER yet again. Cheers for now Greg. See Ya, Mike.
So, a complete lunch on a sunny summer day in Mamaroneck is a double with Walter’s mustard, plus an order of their potato puffs to dip in the same mustard, plus a lemonade. The dogs on their own are tiny. Snuggle two inside a bun.
I work in Mamaroneck, and these dogs are great. It's after 11PM now, and I want one! Needicks, also a NY Hot Dog Icon also used to butterfly their dogs
I just watched “Iron Chef 2.0 Burger” on your Ballistic Burger channel. You can’t go wrong with hotdogs and burgers on any Sunday let alone Super Bowl Sunday.
Nice looking dogs. I like the butter flied style to get them charred on the inside of the dog. Yea, perishable foods are way expensive to ship in a personal quantity package. A lot of food handling precautions need to be used. Dry Ice, Styrofoam Cooler, Box and quick shipping needed to.
Hey Greg, I'm actually in Canada (funny how the brand you found was made here) and I can see Walter's mustard on Amazon but it doesn't ship to Canada unfortunately, so thanks for the tip on making it!
Wow, that's a pricy hot dog! I hope this video covers that cost and then some, for you. So, I noticed you were asking for requests. Years ago when we lived in Ohio, there was an area that tourists and locals alike frequented in late spring, summer, and early fall. Geneva on the Lake. Among other businesses located there, was a place called Eddies Grill. They made the most fantastic chili dogs, ever!!! (regular length and foot long). The buns were toasted on the grill and had a nice light 'crisp'. The hot dogs were deep-fried, and the "chili" was super good. There weren't beans in it, and the flavor was pretty unique. It reminded me of what it might taste like if one were to combine a good hot dog chili with sloppy joes. It has been a few decades since I've been in Ohio, but boy have I missed the days of Eddies Grill. I have tried to recreate the chili quite a few ties, but I just can't seem to get it right, and it isn't the same without that being on point. I guess it was his mothers' secret chili recipe. Any chance you might consider taking on The re-creation of an Eddies Grill footlong chili dog as a request? That would be super cool, especially if you nail it! Thank you for considering my request!
That's mostly shipping costs and markup. Walter's sells that same package of 12 uncooked hot dogs in a package for $7.99, so with GoldBelly, that gets marked up to $70+. At the stand, a single costs $3.75 and a double $5.65, so six double would cost $33.90, including six buns. I went to high school across the street in the 1980s -- don't recall the prices then but I'm certain it was well under $2 a hot dog.
Yup! This was just such a unique blend, I felt that the only way I could come close is to buy the real-deal. If this was just beef and beef and pork, I would have went with what I have available out here.
Yeah, but was it $70 good? I admit that there are times when a hot dog is my food of choice and I'd probably pay that happily for some Cupid's chili dogs or a Flooky's hot dog. Great video Greg, thanks.
You should see if you or Bradley can duplicate the dog to save some $. You are going to need more anyway so you can have a delivery method for the mustard you have left 😅
They're charging $3.10 for the type of dogs I cooked up. Charging (rounded) $68 with "free shipping." Then I had to pay tax. Outrageous, but I wanted to try the real deal.
You want to copy some hot dogs? "Andy's", Yonge & St. Clair, Toronto. He might be gone now. Best hot dogs - beef, chicken, turkey, veal, pork. Best "cuts" - scalloped, flower cut, etc. Best topping selections.
I made the mustard, and making the veal, beef, and pork hot dogs is a tall order. LOL! Plus, they're not making the dogs in-house anyway. They are having them made and packaged.
@@BallisticBBQ Also I cooked at a BBQ restaurant in Atlanta GA. Many Moons Ago. I would sell A Lot of Slaw and Chili dogs. I really like Slaw dogs with Beer Mustard and Hot chili peppers, maybe Habaneros or Ghost Peppers...

If you can just buy their mustard why bother making it from scratch? You didn't save money with the ingredients you had to buy and certainly didn't save time. What's worse is you discourage people from buying Walter's. If you really appreciate Walter's dogs why discourage people from doing business with them?
Not everyone can get their mustard shipped to them where they live, a "close clone" gives people in those areas the ability to have the next best thing...
