I started shedding a couple tears hearing this play. This is my older brothers favorite game of all time. I remember being little watching him play. How much joy he had that he beat it twice maybe three times. I’ve been seeing all of the hype and anticipation leading up to the release. Sadly, he can’t partake because he passed away eleven years ago this June. Watching videos of the remake, I can hear this tune playing in my head that I had to search it up. I still have all of the memories of him playing, when he beat the final boss, and him restarting it a couple days later. He at least got to enjoy crisis core. When he passed his gf at the time passed along his psp. I loaded up his saved game files to see where he was at and had it saved more than a couple times with everything maxed out. I love you Ruben, I’m sure you’ll be watching the storyline play out through others enjoy it themselves 😇👍🏽
BROOO THIS MADE ME CRY TOO I DONY KNOW WHY BUT THE EMOTION I FELT. It jsut felt like after playing the pixel remasters for the first time I felt so old listening to this and I’m only 17 😭
Playing this in late 1997 as a christmas gift from my uncle...Man you guys have no idea HOW good it actually was back then...It was absolutely mindblowing for a 12 year old boy!!!
Yep perfect age to play it. I played it around the same age. There was very little like this in the West, either on or off consoles, at the time. Games like Last of Us or Red Dead Redemption 2 or God of War came from stuff like this to me.
I'd just got divorced in 1997 and basically was alone in a house with a sofa, a tv, a PS1 and this game. I worked late shift and would get home around 11pm and fire this up and play it until like 4am lol
Our 1 year old absolutely loves this song for some reason. He will go from a full-blown fit to a statue-like trance as soon as he hears it, and he'll listen to it intently for its entirety. Really saved my nerves, this song 🤣
Do you think it's because of how much you love the song and how your son saw you react to it, or just because of the song's general awesomeness? I ask because I have a song (from Ultima VI) that has the same effect with my boy :)
I genuinely feel like this is the best game or one of the greatest games that have ever been created. If it's not the most amazing story and cast of characters ever. If it's not the challenging and exciting gameplay, it's the music. This song in particular gives me a nostalgic feeling for some reason, just takes me back to those PS1 days. Whenever I hear it, I feel like Im in a dark open area looking up at billions of stars in the sky and thinking about how far I've come in life. This song makes me reflect on every memory I possess, every person I've ever known and every dream I've ever had, and helps me find the beauty in all of the above.
Man I would listen to this whenever I would install the PC version, watching each character's specialized bg image as the game was installed. Chills. I feel like crying man. And the PSX version sealed the deal.
Used to play this game as a kid. Showed it to my daughter, who's only 8 weeks old, and she spit out her pacifier and got really quiet, just to listen. She stayed calm through the whole thing, twice. Didn't even move. Looks like my daughter and I are gonna share some cool interests lol. Gives me something to look back on, and maybe to sharing with my baby girl when she gets a little older.
My dad is obsessed with video games, I basically exclusively listened to fallout soundtracks when I was a baby, I started playing marrowind with my pops when i was 6. I still play portal with him every weekend, i hope your daughter grows up a gamer 💫
I would like to know how things are since then ! This was posted 2 years ago afterall. My 4 year old bro just got into NES games and its been a blast reliving and sharing some of my childhood favorites with him
17 yrs old. First boyfriend is a gamer. [Sigh] I mostly give up, work on college studying or just curl up on him and space out (comfort, but also bored!). Until... He put this game on, and I heard this tune. From then on: that's all I wanted him to play for a good while, because of the music. He used to have to leave this pre-game music on for a while before starting, so I could listen. Our relationship wasn't easy (stupid families). We broke up for a year. Nevertheless by the end of that year I was so sad I couldn't hear that music anymore (and I guess I knew deep down I still loved him, so I missed him), that I went out and got myself a PS2, and a copy of this game, and started learning how to play. After we got back together, I didn't stop, and so began our more happy years of co-gaming together. :) Now we are married! :D
29 years old. watched my cousin play this when I was 5. I had no idea of the journey I was embarking upon. this series got me through my adolescence, my early adulthood, and the hardest parts of my life. thank you, squareSOFT.
I was like 14 when this game was released. My brother and I had waited in anticipation ever since the game was announced and we got to play that demo, and we bought every game magazine that had even just an ad or poster for the upcoming release. Listening to the prelude when I first turned on the game brought tears to my eyes.
I was around that age too and it was a magic Christmas staying up to the early hours playing the game with my little brother. It didn't then at the time but when I heard this again for the first time in 15+ years it was actually pretty emotional. There's never been a game like it since in my opinion.
I remember the first time I heard that song, it gave me a weird feeling and I was hooked. I remember the first time I saw my dad playing the game. It was when Cloud made his entrance on the train, (you know when Barret was worried). I was like "Who's that?" and my dad told me Cloud's name because I pointed him out. Talk about memories...
I played this game for the first time this year and it absolutely blew me away. This game is now my favourite video game of all time I’ve played it twice already this year and I probably play it again and again. 🥲. ( hello mega best friend 👋🍐)
Doubtful. They're at least going to remake the original tracks with real instruments but they'll likely add new tidbits to them as well. If we're lucky they'll have options players can choose from for nostalgia's sake, like choosing to incorporate the original tracks instead of the updated ones. But we won't know until March.
When I saw this screen and that symbol in the middle and heard the music, I knew I was looking at something special. What's really outrageous is how the game's mood fits the tone of this screen perfectly, Materia and all.
God this brings me back to the summer of 97 being completely captivated. No internet or preconceptions of what was to come. Going from Earthbound to this blew my mind. What a time 🥲
I have to tell you something. Thursday, January 9, 2020. I came home from a second-hand store with a new PlayStation game, Final Fantasy VII. I know how much this game is loved and especially cited as one of the best video games of all time. Until now, I didn't know anything about the game. When launching the game, I see the SquareSoft logo. And I hear soft music, a glissando up and down, a rather pretty illustration, an opening credits, as if it were the beginning of a film. The music changes, flutes and violins are added. I haven't even started playing yet that I'm already amazed by what I bought. This music named "Prelude" made me shiver from the first second I heard it. You can't imagine what I felt in front of this game. And yet, I only made a meager part of it. I just left Midgar.
I grew up trying so hard to beat this game... fifteen years it took me to get the the last boss room, and hearing this song takes me back to those beautiful memories...
After listening to this I think I might start playing this one again. It's been about 7 years since I last played it so I think I'm long overdue for another trip to Midgar.
My parents played this when I was an infant and so I always grew up having strange memories of characters and scenes. Then I found the game in our basement and tried to play but always died on the first boss. The strange logo and mysterious music drew me in in a haunting but beautiful way.
not sure if anyone notice, the menu screen that "like climbing stairs up and down" had been used in all FF games. But in each game it's used differently. Like in 15 it's actually in the main battle theme.
This makes me want to play FF7 again, the best FF there was and ever will be, the materia system was the best way to use and organize magic......nostalgia.....
Playing this after I finished Crisis Core on PSP during those days. This was such a phenomenal experience. I also played this game for the first time on PSP. And now I am re-experiencing the same vibe and the same feelings with the Remake series. I am absolutely looking forward to Rebirth.
Thank you for those who had involved creating this game. It has really been part of my life, my memory and it's give my heart joy whenever I listen to this tune. It bring me back all the sweet memories being young and has all the time in the world!
Still remember my first run through of this game. I spent my 3 month summer school break on it and still hadn't completed it. My all time favourite game. I can't fault it for a single detail. Character progression was incredible. Story was so immersive. Endless side quests and mini games. Endless ways of adapting Materia to your advantage. Battles that seemed to go on forever. An amazing soundtrack to boot. This game was what got me hooked on RPGs. It set the standard in my opinion, and there is yet to be a single game that comes close to beating it for me.
Esa sensacion al escucharlo, nose como explicar, de poder, placer, tranquilidad, de sentirte un heroe!! sentis que vos mismo luchas para salvar el planeta.. me encanta este sound track.....
Final Fantasy 8 my have been my first and favorite of them all but the opening menu music for Final Fantasy 7 will always have a special place in my heart.
I don't remember hearing this theme at all when I would watch my older brother play this game, but despite that, when I bought the game myself on PS4, and this music started, I got one of the biggest blasts of nostalgia I have ever gotten.
This song is what the nostalgia feels like. First playthrough was watching my dad when i was 5, Now at 30 i start my what feels like 1000th playthrough with my son who's 4.
I'd only owned a PSX for about a month when I got this - 14 years old and the first console upgrade (from a Mega Drive) I bought myself. I remember when this kicked in, I thought "I've never played anything like this before" and blimey was that an understatement
I can't help but feel like I missed out. Growing up in the 90s. I was so stuck in my ways. I hated turn based games. But at 24 I now can appreciate this for what it is. A Good Fucking Game. I'm so glad to have the chance to experience this, im sorry for putting it off for so so long. This world. This story. Its so amazing and beautiful. I'm excited to feel everything ill feel when beating this game. Fucking fuck yeah.
Just starting up the game now makes me feel so nostalgic and I didn't even play the game until recently. I wish I could have played it when it came out, but I was too young to fully enjoy it probably (and I wasn't even really into games until I was around 10).
+Brandon Millar Seriously this is the best one out of all of the Final Fantasy new gen games. There will never be another one that was this intense and in depth. I remember bringing it home almost 20 years ago. This song still brings me back to that time where I started my first journey through the game. I played this for my boys the other day, and the youngest said... I have never felt more at peace than right now. Brought a smile to my face
I loved the fact that when you finished the game, there comes a starry-like screen saver with this playing in the background. I think the true official name is call "Pray", but I could be wrong.
Final Fantasy VII is the greatest video game ever made. There's a reason it sold 10 million copies and was the highest selling RPG until Skyrim in 2011.
I only started playing this game for the first time about 2 months ago (not even 1/3rd of the way through yet) and I already find this so beautiful and already slightly nostalgic
So sad but still a beauty, a lot of memories in a short, looped, epic game tune. I will fight Ruby right now, just for old times sake. Thanks for the upload.
I never got to experience FF7 on the original PS1, only when it got ported to PC. And even then, I had to import it as it was not sold in my home country. This music started playing during the installation process and it got imprinted on me, as I had to repeat the installation several times (things weren't as plug-and-play as they are nowadays). Still, to this day, I get transported back to my teenager years and those Summer break months, every single time I hear this melody.
I just love the fact that everyone on their comments have these amazing experiences with this game Meanwhile I just know FF7 because of cloud and sephiroth in smash (And kingdom hearts)
I also agree with everyone here - this game means more to me than ALL the video games I ever liked, put together. Nothing comes close in terms of story, music, and playability. I haven't played this seriously for the better of 14+ years, but I've always said if I can get my hands on a ps2 for cheap, I'd absorb myself into that game once again.... oh the memories...!
Final Fantasy VI's rendition of the Prelude/Crystal Theme is my personal favorite, but I love the added coda segment that Nobuo Uematsu composed for Final Fantasy VII. I kind of wish someone would do a mash-up/remix of Final Fantasy VI and Final Fantasy VII's versions of the theme with FFVI's instruments and FFVII additional section.
I started shedding a couple tears hearing this play. This is my older brothers favorite game of all time. I remember being little watching him play. How much joy he had that he beat it twice maybe three times. I’ve been seeing all of the hype and anticipation leading up to the release.

BROOO THIS MADE ME CRY TOO I DONY KNOW WHY BUT THE EMOTION I FELT. It jsut felt like after playing the pixel remasters for the first time I felt so old listening to this and I’m only 17 😭
I remember once my parents took my controllers away, so I just sat and listened this song for like an hour.
Playing this in late 1997 as a christmas gift from my uncle...Man you guys have no idea HOW good it actually was back then...It was absolutely mindblowing for a 12 year old boy!!!

I played at 16 in 2012 amd still think it's a masterpiece. It's timeless.
I'd just got divorced in 1997 and basically was alone in a house with a sofa, a tv, a PS1 and this game. I worked late shift and would get home around 11pm and fire this up and play it until like 4am lol
this is universal. this is forever. this is life.
Still the best version. Melts my heart in seconds.
This song makes me tear up for some reason. Such a beautiful song.
I remember seeing this screen for the first time in 1997 with all the wonder of a child. "You can't go home again".
I bought this on PSN a few days ago, and I couldn't even press start once I got to the title screen. That's how good this piece of music is. . .
How have things changed for you since the time you wrote this comment?

The memories.... this music takes me right back to the days of being totally immersed in a game!

The most beautiful intro to a video game ever. Still is my favorite game to this day.
This song sounds like adventure...friends, intrigue, mystery, the sky, purpose ,joy and sadness at the same time.
This game fr it's a masterpiece for me. The first game of Final Fantasy being a masterpiece "a star Game" FFVII it's the best game on 1997 🫶🏼❤

Oh that was the best.
My wife and I shared the same childhood and we use this at our wedding back in 2017. She was born in 94 and I was born in 96. :')
You got married young.
man this song...it simply touches me, it is probably my favorite song.
Such great feelings
The most ambitious, and beautiful game ever made. Simply put the Greatest work of game Art ever created... And Still!!!
Turning this game on for the first time and hearing the prelude will always be one of those experiences I wish I could live again.
Power point presentation.
This was before power point buddy.
Just brilliant. I must find original orchestra.
Just started playing, and this opening made me already fall in love with the game even though I wasn’t at the actual gameplay yet.
I just get chills when I hear this intro. It is a cinematic masterpiece 🤘
this is what catapulted FF from a fun video game to THE video game. FF7
I only started playing this game for the first time about 2 months ago (not even 1/3rd of the way through yet) and I already find this so beautiful and already slightly nostalgic
Hearing this song for some reason tends to calm me down...don't know what it is... but it just makes my day a little brighter
lots os nostalgic memories.if only i could return to those days...
The light,it seem so warm,so calm
This always brings peace to my heart.
The Return Draws Closer...
So sad but still a beauty, a lot of memories in a short, looped, epic game tune. I will fight Ruby right now, just for old times sake. Thanks for the upload.
I remember listening to this all the way through..when I was 13 before starting the game.
Such a beautiful song
I never got to experience FF7 on the original PS1, only when it got ported to PC. And even then, I had to import it as it was not sold in my home country. This music started playing during the installation process and it got imprinted on me, as I had to repeat the installation several times (things weren't as plug-and-play as they are nowadays). Still, to this day, I get transported back to my teenager years and those Summer break months, every single time I hear this melody.
I just love the fact that everyone on their comments have these amazing experiences with this game
Meanwhile I just know FF7 because of cloud and sephiroth in smash
(And kingdom hearts)
If it wasn't for sephiroth getting into smash bros., I probably would have never discovered this beautiful game series, amd this beautiful song
Thank god for smash bros because this is one of the greatest pieces of art to ever exist
Hironobu Sakaguchi - thank you for the greatest gaming I have ever experienced. Square is not the same without you...
Final Fantasy VI's rendition of the Prelude/Crystal Theme is my personal favorite, but I love the added coda segment that Nobuo Uematsu composed for Final Fantasy VII.
I kind of wish someone would do a mash-up/remix of Final Fantasy VI and Final Fantasy VII's versions of the theme with FFVI's instruments and FFVII additional section.
memories...really great memories of FF7 from 10 years ago...time sure does fly by
Oh ya, it sure does fly by
Songs like these have a way of telling you are in for a adventure
