This opening gives me chills everytime. Even to this day.
Same
Those three notes 1:03
The transition straight from cutscene to gameplay is pretty impressive, too. I mean, I know the backgrounds are just 2D images so they just rendered the 3D models in front of the last frame of the cutscene, but still, it works so well.
Just noticed that aswell! Must have been a pain in the ass to get the transition working like that!
Damn, it must mean something that in the original opening Aeris looks forward and proceeds with calm, and in the remake she looks BACK and moves forward with caution...
Remake Aeris already knew deep down what was destined to happen with her... :(
@@lasersnquasars6156 probably stopped it from happening now that fates dead
Sephiroth is there, or at least some remnant of him is, she sensed it and it spooked her
Mostly just a changing of her character in general over the years. She's one of those characters that the original version of her in the original release just... isn't how people think of her. And that was reflected in the Remake. Sad as it sounds dying was the best thing that could have happened to her as it drastically altered everyone's perceptions of her.
Or, y’know, graphics were not advanced enough for those details to matter.
The story beginning to end is some art for the ages.
Who came here after
They saw the remake Intro
This is one of the best game openings ever made. The transition from Aerith to Midgar was a perfect window for the player to get be introduced to the game world. It's like you're following her through a dark tunnel and she opens a door to a strange new land and you fly through it.
The Assassin's Creed-ish eagle part they added kind of detracted from that.
Edit: Looks like the devs agree, and they cut that shot out of the demo.
You gotta specify "official" since the demo leak was a separate migration of viewers haha
lol this game is now going to become cult following
BlueTumbleweed the dark backdrop with lights is a harbinger to the origin of Genova, an alien from space.
I never ever played any FF and saw the remake first. Respect for you guys that played this game and were amazed by it. I wanna like it but damn, the remake did work cuz this understandably ages really bad. (ps: I aint got no nostalgia goggles so excuse my rudeness to this op)
One of the best opening of videogames
Most beautiful game scene ever. Actually there are so many in ff7...
What an opening. Not a big gamer, but remember getting this when I was 10 in 1997 and being mesmerized
Oh my God, the Final Fantasy VII opening from the Remake looks gorgeous but the original is epic too. It gave you the feeling that you're ready for an incredible adventure. Oh man, I love this game.
See, had anyone actually PLAYED Final Fantasy VII, they would have known the Smash Bros. reveal was for Cloud IMMEDIATELY when the starry background showed up.
+Rubberman202 Some of us recognized it from the start.
when people saw space they were like "Wolf confirmed!" smh
+Rubberman202 shut up nerd
+Rubberman202 Some recognized the music. Maximilian Dood recognized through the music, and maybe the background
+Rubberman202 As soon as I heard the sound of the train 0.5 seconds in I jumped off my chair.
"New Trailer Approaching" + The train sound from the opening = Cloud in smash
This abstract begining is beautifull.
Ffvii struck a veil in being a golden line between the obscure and the mainstream.
This is that i call magic moments, moments that you'll never forget.
I wish I can experience this opening for the first time again
Happy 25th anniversary to Cloud and the crew! Still lovin' FFVII on 01.31.22!
the game is on playstation store on ps3 i plan to buy it
Did you ever buy it? It's been 10 years
ellytheman how ya doing
Man this comment is ancient as fuck
gotta know
It's amazing. My memory of the classic.
who is here after the remake demo leak?
Yo like I had to confirm it is fucking nearly frame for frame perfectly modernized. Hyyyyype
Nope I am here after the official release of the demo
I’m here after the official release of part one
This does in 2 minutes and a half what your average modern game takes 10 hours of on-rails 'gameplay' to do.
XIII lifts this off almost frame by frame and then scrambles its bits around but achieves none of its effect.
We dont talk about 13
It's so hard to pull off an opening that jumps straight into the action, but this masterpiece does it perfectly. Masterfully done.
who cares
I still think this opening is better than the remake. The timing is more on point and it has more of a special feeling.
Honestly that sounds like nostalgia blindness
@@mulch895 I only played the original FF7 in adulthood, so I don't have much nostalgia for it. I still think it's a better game than the remake.
@@mulch895 sounds like you have just garbage taste
@@tuneablestar1712 Its a MUCH MUCH better game. Holy shit. The pacing and new plot of the remake is atrocious.
It absolutely is. It starts with a familiar starry sky and a familiar setting but becomes stranger and stranger things come into view as the camera zooms out revealing a strange new world to you. Aerith should have been the gateway character to walk you into this world from the darkness opening its grand gates. What's the point of the zoom out shot if you're going to have a bird fly and showing the day-to-day life of the Midgar residents first?
Foreshadowing at its finest.
Amazing that they more than doubled the length of this original scene for the remake. And every bit is completely worth it and so much better.
This opening proved a lot to gamers back in the day. It showed what can really be done with video games.
Who's here after the official reveal of the Opening ?💙
who's here after watching FF7 Remake Opening ?
I can't stop myself from being so emotional... it's already been over 20 years! I clearly remember the amazement I lived when I saw this intro for the first time.
Me. The remake definitely does it justice
Man!!! I just started the remake on the PS5 and as I went through this scene and was like "I remember that but there was something different about it!" Wow!
My brother and I had to take timed turns of an hour playing this game when we first got it, best overall video game experience of my life.
one of the greatest games ever
Hell yeah. Even though its not even top 5 best FF its still golden.
@@misterturkturkledahm 14 years ago…. Wow
The intro to this game truly presented an ambience that we were stepping into another world. A world where you control the characters and determine their actions. Even their names.
1:21 I find it weird but also cool that there's an ad for the album Loveless by My Bloody Valentine in the background
it is not
@@danielballon8247 it says: "oody" and "tine", and loveless.
i had a copy of Tobal #1 in 1995 and the ff7 demo was with it... this scene changed my life :P
Anyone here after seeing the opening for the remake?
Anyone ever notice how the first shot of the game is also directly mirrored by the final shot [post-credits Red13 scene not included]?
I never hear anyone talk about that
The best RPG ever made!!!!
Final Fantasy 7 is just a great game
I don't have a PS4/5 or Gaming PC. So the only way i had to discover FFVII is to play the original on my Old PSP, which can run PS1 games... This game is amazing
I started gaming on Xbox one
Those music notes at 1:35 always do it for me, nearly 30 years later.
this is the moment that gaming changed
I don't think FF7 revolutionised gaming as a whole. Sure, it was a masterpiece, but no game changer.
@@user-yi5mt2df5q it changed the RPG franchise
No it isn't dumbass
Yep one of the biggest landmark titles ever. If you lived in that era of gaming then you know the ramifications it had
@@lols5534
No, not really. RPG's were exactly the same before and after FF7. Hell, FF7 was an rpg when turn-based games were declining.
Yay it's back!!!
The very first scene of showing the universe, the stars, even for as long as one minute, is in my opinion what already separates FF VII from all other Final Fantasy series. It's seriously perhaps the only Final Fantasy game that gave me such an existential dread, asking deeper questions like meaning of life, etc etc. Final Fantasy VII is actually a very existential game. It's a lot much deeper than most people even think. Such a very rare masterpiece!
“Never thought I’d see the day.”
In the beginning there was Aerith.
In the end was the beginning...confusius.;)
Best RPG of all time!No one has figured it out but a select few...
720p in 2008!? Holy!
While the graphics may have aged poorly, to this day it is still a fantastic title to play through.
Over 25 years old!! 😭 Absolutely groundbreaking for that time 😢
So I’ve just finished FF7 for the first time, and something about the game really struck me.
The last shot of the game, as well as the first shot, are both Aeris surrounded by the lifestream.
Is there a possibility that Aeris foresaw most/all of the events of FF7 from the very beginning of the game?
I think she could talk to the planet, and when she died/returned to the planet/lifestream she helped save the world at the end.
Thank god one of them is still up
Every time I hear this song, I want to play it
Iconic
Who's here after seeing the new FF7R Trailer?
Calling it “the famous opening” instead of “opening” really goes to show how impactful this was.
수십년이 지났어도 이 웅장함은 잊혀지질 않는구나..
Happy 26th Anniversary Final Fantasy VII
Simplemente E P I C O
When you realized that Aerith is the "promised land" Shinra's been looking for the whole time after finishing the game. It's heavily implied that it's the lifestream and the planet whole along, and Aerith, as a cetra, is now one with the planet. That's why the OG FF7 first and last thing we see is Aerith, the true hero.
This looked sooooo good in the 90s!
Still better than the remake
How?
@@hkrelax Just the way the music works with the fmv and the editing. It relishes a bit more to go with the music whereas the remake's opening just feels a bit drawn out and rushed in the wrong places.
Not bad mind you. It's just they nailed the atmosphere and pacing so perfectly in the original.
Exactly!!
Although the remake is graphically more impressive and more complete. It lacks the WOW factor of the original. For those of us who grew up on Final Fantasy back then and first saw this jump from 16 bit Final Fantasy into CD Final Fantasy there's no contest. Booting up that disk demo from a magazine and seeing this was something else.
Some beginnings never needed a end
It's just incredible, Final Fantasy VII Remake (ep1) is everything a remake should be...
Goosebumps 🙂↕️💫
One of the best openings in gaming history.
I keep watching this and asking myself if it really is better than the remake original or if it's just nostalgias goggles.
It's really better. The alley is pitch black and the city looks dark and ominous. This opening has a sense of dread and anticipation that the new one does not. And the way the hopeful music rises and contrasts with the dark city and then some how coalesces with it--perfection.
The new looks visually better, obviously, but it lacks all the darker/creepier tones.
I really, really hope they remake Final Fantasy VII! I can guarantee that if they remake the entire video game exclusively for PS3, it would probably bring them more money than they'd ever dream of getting from any one game. The old FF VII is hard to come by these days, it'd be amazing if they'd remake it for the new generation, and the old.
They did!!!!! August 10 i think
I heard in an interview that the Shinra execs think that a remake would be too costly, so they'd rather throw out less thoughtful nonsensical sequels than an amazing remake that would be a surefire hit.
This comment didn’t age well
boy... you're in for a surprise.
Get sklarped kneckmeakt
I just think it's funny that you called them "Shinra" execs rather than Square Enix.
This aged poorly
here after sephiroth got into smash 👊👊
I think the remake actually sequel from the original because they failed in this remake is for the second chance to do it again....
Rewatching this cause why not
they should make a 3DS remake of this game!
so damn epic
Whos here on dec 31 2019 comparing the original to the remake opening?!
ME!!!
Yup. Some nice things they did with the remake opening. I like that they showed a bit more of day to day life in Midgar, cars driving around, the kids playing in the sector 6 playground. Nice touches.
However, I hate the vocals they put over the top of the music. And I hate hearing Barret say "get down here merc". Both things ruin the beautiful simplicity of the original opening in my opinion.
Why oh why is this particular bit of music for this opening scene not brought back.
Im fucking crying
Final Fantasy VII opening: Shows us the epic city of Midgar, with each second showing more and more of the city. Aerith, Cars, People, City. And then going straight to action on the Train.
Final Fantasy XV opening: Four JoJosexuals trying to move the car. That's all.
Which opening is the best out of them?
Final Fantasy VI, obviously.
JK, it's Final Fantasy 1. And so, their journey begins...
FFVIII Was infinity much better than all of games
Technically FFXV began with a movie lol
@@señordeloscuervos Close but not quite better than FFVII's. FFVIII's transition to gameplay was poor and even worse, starts out very calm and boring. Can't compete with FFVII's epic intro. Now, back then I always thought the attack on Dollet would have been the opening for FFVIII with the moon and all. Now THAT would have tied FFVII's opening.
@@CJTranceAddiction i spooke about the intro, not gameplay, truely i preffered ffviii because you get overworld earlier than ffvii
@@señordeloscuervos I was talking about the intro as well.
Yes
I was just watching Blade Runner and there's the scene where Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford) is flying towards the Tyrell corporation building, I thought to myself I know that music. After thinking for a few minutes I realised it was the same music as this opening scene from Final Fantasy 7.
It's not
my bloody valentine
Childs from 90’s we are here
This is a terrible version of this. It's completely stretched out to be 16:9 when it is actually 4:3. Everything is completely off.
No one cares, fuck off
@@MarcusT86Damn never seen someone so butt hurt that their content, which they stole; was displayed in the wrong in the wrong aspect ratio and called out for it.
It also does make a huge difference you squished everything like pancake.
@@zerohikari2685 Fuck off.
i like this opening more than the remake's opening
No
@JASONMOORE87
Very true! I'm really looking forward to Versus XIII. I heard that it's supposed to have the Kingdom Hearts battle system, which I'm extremely happy about. Though I love the Final Fantasy games, I'm not much of a fan of the battle system. I'm playing XIII now, and it's taking me a while to finish, I'm a very slow gamer, lol. I'm enjoying it so far, but it's got its ups and downs :)
Side by side comparison with the remake, and both are stunning.
@JASONMOORE87
Haha! I guess I'll just have to anticipate Versus XIII now.
I need Aerith in my life right about now
I still haven't played this game. Or the remake. But I know of the game through cultural osmosis.
Think I should play it?
Yes. Play the original first.
Play the original. Fuck the remake
And now Cloud is in Super Smash Bros...Wait he's confirmed OMG!
5 years later now sephiroth is in too
Wow it took 5 years for Sephiroth to find Cloud. Thanks to the remake, Sephiroth joined Smash with Advent Children reference!
@@GalaxyRoyal and Sora is now here too
@@Supersentai03 All three characters reunited to fight a great battle into the Smash world.

much better than remake

Comment section
99%: asking who came after they saw the remake intro
@JesusLovesMe0261 Hard to come by? Well in a cd, yeah. But as i see, you have a computer, so that means you can play emulators. There hundreds of rips of the original game, and if you owned the game at any point in time, you can download an iso and play on an emulator. And its not illegal if you have owned the game.
I wish more RPGs did this: have enough trust to give the player control of a character and enter combat within 2 minutes, instead of like an hour of exposition and talking heads.
If you don’t want me at my worst then you don’t deserve me at my best
I don't hate the Remake or anything, but I personally prefer the slower pace of the "camera's" movement in this original opening, especially when the FF7 logo appears and after it. I find the slower pace, combined with the logo appearing and then the cuts to the locomotive, more dramatic than the Remake version.
@AstuteClass lol or on the 3DS
Now the remake is free on the PS4

The remake kinda hesitates between the opening and the train sequence but its aight
