Maybe you already know, Viktik vs Wild was a knife designed for participants of the German survival youtube show called "7 vs. Wild" - hence the name. The season the knife was designed for required the participants to fit all their equipment into a 1l Nalgene bottle. During the season, the team with this knife really put it through it's paces and and was the reason I bought it as well thinking: If these two fools can abuse the knife this much and it's still usable and sharp it should be good for me" :) Still one of my favorites
I love my vigtig. It’s unbelievable for bush craft. I keep a 1 inch ferro rod that has two holes you can fit 550 cord through to make a little sort of handle you can put on your finger like a ring, A little plastic baggie with dryer lint and Vaseline, and a small pair of tweezers inside the handle of my vigtig. It takes some practice to spark well, but it’s a survival tool not daily fire starter tool.
Loved the outdoor test 🫡 A sharp backspine is a great option, but not a requirement. German is pure bushcrafter, on the smaller side. The Italian would be my pick though, looks so comfy to use for slicing
Regarding the tester, I’m still trying to figure out if it will work for every type of a blade. It has a problem giving consistent results on some blades and once I figure out what is the differentiation, I’ll post the video. Providing a link now would be irresponsible.
first let me express my appreciation on how you present on your channel, its been great, covers all important aspects/infos on knives, i have zt's, benchmades, spydercos, microtechs, and medfords. maybe in the future you would hardness test a typical medford magnacut (DOB 2024), i have one in the marauder h, DLT trading and Amy medford confirmed it to be 62-63 hrc, Greg called it at 63. thanks and more power to your channel.
es haßt: was du nicht weißt macht dich nicht heiß any thoughts on dawson gen1 knives? they updated now to gen2 with other sheaths & whistles...do u think they updated their magnacut heattreat as well? regards from the land of Glock
Ich weißt nicht. Not tracking that brand… that said, CPM 3V is always a better choice for a hard use blade than high Cr stainless alloys, to which MagnaCut belongs. Check out my old video about Benchmade 185 SOCP. Specific to the knife, looking at photos, I don’t like exposed tang on the pommel, they limit the hand grip options without adding much utility. I don’t like how deep the sharpening choil is and that it is directly below the decorative hole on the blade. The knife appears to be more of an artistic interpretation on a classic hunting style. This Vigtig vs Wild is an absolute bargain!
@@CuttingBoardRx indeed it is, i view it more like a thing that makes me happy everyday - hopefully so! thanks for the reply, yes böker is absolutly okey but as an austrian i dispise german knives for unknown reasons tbh, their heattreat is just trash + big brands me no like. benchmade for example won't even respond to any mails i wrote in the past. that tv stuff you mentioned is crazy...the more i'm exposed to outdoor stuff the more i focus on ignoring how big this scene got so quickly. cheers and have a good one, lieabe griaß vom lond der scheinenden sonnenweine - burgenlond

Are you aware of the issues that Survive Knives claims to have with magnacut? I personally think it's bs, but hearing your take on it would be precious for me.
Nope. Blade is too short for anything other than skinning but the blade is too thick behind the edge. There are dozens of hunting knives that are better suited and cost less. Wait for Benchmade Water series (MagnaCut) or get Hidden Canyon in S30V for about the same price.
I am not ready to make full recommendation because I’m not sure if it’s utility yet. Example: any warping in a blade causes it to misread the hardness.
Doesn’t matter, on a production knife it is economically prohibitive to do differential heat treatment. And nearly impossible with stainless air quenched steels like MagnaCut, S30V, S35/45VN, 14C28M… The only stainless steels that may have differential hardness are work-hardened alloys like H1 and H2 but there it’s not a product of thermal processing.
Straight from Böker: "US knife maker Dave Wenger can be forgiven for pronouncing the German word "wichtig" (important) when the result is such an impressive knife." So "Vigtig" really is a malapropism of a common German word 😂

Pretty cool! I love little secret compartments for survival gear. That worked great 👍🏼

Careful there, a survival tool should be as good or better, in quality and ease of use, as your daily gear. Thanks for subscribing!

Excellent presentation! I have to agree in teems of utility, the Böker takes the cake!!
Yep! That brand is awesome. I find myself using Böker more and more as my collection of their knives, in every price range, is growing steadily.
Great vid with some nice variety. Well done.
Thnx for the HRC test! What kind of HRC tester are you using?
It’s a Leeb style tester.
Congratulations for your new toy. Can you provide the link?

I don’t own a MagnaCut Medford but their HT on S35 and S45 is very good.
Not a fan of the styling on the DCA, but I think it is more of a utilitarian piece.
I would prefer if the handle was a little thicker and bent the opposite way. But some like it thin and curved downward…

I had the same issue with that same clip I returned it now I carry my my fix played soft loops
Very surprising to see mkm doing a good job. I had a spyopera in m390 made by lionsteel that was so soft I couldnt even sharpen it

@@CuttingBoardRx The difference of mass, due to the shape of the blade, will mean it does
"Takes the biscuit" 16:49
the boker should be around 12 degrees per side, not total
I was wrong. It’s actually 14 per side on mine.

So far, Italian Knife Customer Service is nonresponsive
