I have been a fan since a teenager. I remember driving a monster "63 Chevy for my first solo drive 90 miles without a map but instructions like turn by the old church and next turn by the brick school in the middle of nowhere, etc. No road names, no map, just landmarks by which to go by. I had been a car-sick passenger for oh so many years to visit relatives along this route. On this beautiful warm summer's day, with windows rolled down, I hear "Moonshadow" on the car's radio for the first time, and I was entranced. When I met my husband of over 45 years now, he saw Yusuf/Cat in concert when he was in the Navy on the East Coast. This was one of our common loves which has remained with us throughout our long married lives together. We love Yusuf-Cat. It matters to us that we accept Yusuf for who he is and for the gift he has given the world with his music and to us.

I agree with all you have said, he lifted me in so many ways, the two musicians that influenced me the most were Cat and Frank Zappa both opened my eyes to different ways of looking at life. Now I am 78 yrs young and have loved them both since I was 18. When a friend gave me each of their first albums. Sitting here listening and watching the storm of the century or so they say. We are expecting 10-18 inches . In N Michigan near my fav place on earth South Branch Au Sable river and the Mason Tract.
Had to smile when he mentioned having toured with Jimi Hendrix. I saw him on that tour where the playbill started off with 'The Walker Brothers'. Cat Stevens, Englebert Humperdinck and then Jimi Hendrix. (think there were a couple of others who very few of us would remember) .I saw them at (what I think was) the ABC cinema Chesterfield (Derbs). I was 12 or 13 and using tickets 'borrowed' from my grounded sister. That would have been 1967/68'ish. Mum and dad thought I was just camping 'up the woods'. Great days.
I grew up listening to his music and his lyrics helped me to make sense of the world around me. His music and lyrics have stood the test of time and are as soothing and comforting now as they were back in the 80s

And I hope that he comes into the US to play at the Woodland Hills Park on Sunday evening for nothing for charity for the Valley Cultural Center at Warner Park that would be a great thing for all that live in the area to see that they haven’t in years. THERE was something truly magical about his music, poetic, full of vivid lyrical imagery, with a "fairy tale" like quality. Unique does not even begin to describe his wonderful ouvre. I am hard pressed to find anything derivative, it was so totally his own.
