i froze a few water bottles to ice the water.. lasts longer, gets colder. i use for all stuff.. hard boiled eggs, carrots, etc.
Great idea! Thank you for sharing. Rotating them in and out as they begins to thaw would be ideal!

Thanks! I’m glad it was helpful!
Appreciate the way you explain every step clearly and in depth- as oppose to others Not prepared with utensils or camera shaking.. etc . Also I love your glasses matching your sweater 👓 . I’m going to freeze my carrots 👍... 🥕🥕🥕
Thank you! 😊. I appreciate the positive feedback! I’m getting ready to pull the last of my carrots and freeze/freeze dry them this week.
Maybe I should crank out my mandolin slicer, I always do things by hand instead of getting a tool out 😆. I didn't know blanching extends the life of frozen veggies. Great tips
You should! Just be careful! I cut myself badly last year. Thanks for watching! Have a great weekend!
I am on a budget, so I was looking for a way to make them stretch and last longer! This was perfect for me!
So glad!

You are so welcome
Great video! Thank you for the explanation
Glad it was helpful! 😊
Good video but one thing to note: According to Chef Jeane Pierre, in order for a proper blanche, the ice needs to be added first. It takes as long to make the water cold as it does to boil. Great tip!
It's a great video. Buying frozen vegetables expensive. Glad I viewed your video. 🥕🇨🇦😊🥕
Glad it was helpful! 😊
Thank you so much?! I am doing this
😊. I’m preserving carrots now too!

Great video as always! I will do better with blanching before I freeze 😊🌿
Thanks for stopping by UGG! Yes, that extra step is worth it. 💚 Have a great weekend!
I'm going to grow carrots when it cools down. And we'll probably do this. I'm going to grow the kaleidoscope blend. That's what the package is called.
So today my parents were trying to make some kind of green tomato sauce. And mother was blanching the tomatoes to get the skins off. And it was taking way longer than it would normally take a ripe tomato to get the Skins to start peeling. So dad being mr. Smarty pants that he is, he peeled them all using a potato peeler.
😲 and it worked. How smart is that?
That’s awesome! I wouldn’t have thought to do that 😁. Hope you’re having an awesome weekend. Is the carrot blend colorful? It sounds like it would be
@@beesandseeds on the cover it has a red, purple, yellow, orange, and green carrot on it
@@Kaitlyn_B97 oh wow! It’ll fun to hear how those come out.

Very Good !
Thanks! Thanks for stopping by Red Road Homestead!
How long would you say they take to freeze, while on the cookie sheet?
I followed your steps exactly. The carrots taste soooo good after blanching them, I can't believe it! (This is my first time blanching anything, lol, and then freezing so they don't go to waste in the fridge!)
So they just went into the freezer, on parchment paper, on a cookie sheet, and I'm just curious how long they might need to set before putting them into the zip lock bag?
Thanks for this video!! 😊💜
You’re welcome! It depends on how big the pieces are. If small, check after an hour. They don’t need to be frozen solid before bagging them. They need to be firm so they don’t stick together
good explanations
Thanks, glad it was helpful 😊
Great video! Very helpful. Just one question: why did you add salt?
You don’t have to add it. It adds flavor and my
Understanding is it also helps to retain color, texture, and nutrition.
Great educational video. Edited to be concise and correct. Plus a bit of real life when the lens fogged up at 4:06 ! Many thanks ! Already decided to subscribe ! Edit: I watched to the end. I have one question: Are you married?
Thank you for the positive feedback 😊
I use a kraut cutter for cabbage, beets, carrots, and cucumbers.
Great idea! Thank you
Thank you ! But why you put pinch of salt can I put pinch of sugar instead of that & why you put carrot on cookie sheet ?
Wouldn't a air sucker outer machine be pretty good??
Yes!
I recently froze zucchini and squash. I didn't think about freezing carrots. I can only eat 1/2-1 cup at a time, in fact I'm on a 98% liquid diet. I definitely don't want to lose the nutritional value. However if they turn mushy after cooking that is fine by me. I cook the zucchini abd squash in the oven. I think ill add carrots next time. I have been making alot of homemade 🥒🥕🍎 juice.
Sounds great. We like to keep a few bags of carrots in the freezer. It’s very handy.
One question...if you do the cookie sheet method...how long in the freezer on the cookie sheet???
I’ve never timed it but maybe an hour? It’s just long enough so they’re frozen enough that they won’t stick together when bagged up.
@beesandseeds excellent! Thank you!!! Just harvesting farm grown veggies so needed to know 😋
Nice helpful video! ✌️
Thank you! Thanks for stopping by 😊
Do you blanch bell peppers when or if you freeze them?
I don’t! We don’t grow a lot of peppers at once. I grow them year round (I dig up and overwinter a few plants) so if I have more than I can use fresh. I just chop them and freeze them knowing that I’ll be using them in a few weeks. If you’re planning to freeze enough for a year, I would blanch 2-3 minutes depending on how large the pieces are before freezing.
Thanks, I grow a ton every summer but I didn't know about blanching till today when I reached freezing carrots.
@@aaronalton7458 you’re welcome! I’d love to grow a ton every year but I have a short, cool summer.
👍💝
😊
How long for blanching ?
It depends. Smaller the pieces, the shorter the time. 2-5 minutes. When I slice or shred them them- 2 minutes. If there’re bigger chunks 3 minutes. Small whole carrots 5 minutes. I usually just do 2-3 minutes.
Please, what is the importance of the pinch of salt?
It helps retain color and enhances flavor. You can skip the salt if you wish
Tomato update?
Eventually!
So you didn’t say how long to blanch
Sorry! 2 minutes. The larger the pieces, the longer. If you blanch baby carrots, it’s 5 minutes.
Why not just blanch and entire carrot? Why slice them?
I suppose you could. You’d need to blanch them longer. I like to prepare them how I’m going to use them so I dont have to thaw and chop later. I don’t defrost to use but just dump the amounts I want directly into recipe. I slice dice or shred them usually.
