  • Freezing your vegetables is a great way to store food for the future. Blanching is a step that you don't want to skip though. In this video, I explain the need for and the benefits of blanching your vegetables.

    Amazing that all those carrots were grown in pots! Hint: if you put a colander in the ice water bowl after you put the ice in you can just lift the vegs out of the water without fussing with trying to remove the ice. So easy and much faster.

    I knew we blanched before freezing I never knew why, or maybe I did when I was younger (I used to freeze veggies with my mom when I was younger) so thanks for that little lesson!

    Thanks for what ever you did to make this video loud enough for folks like me. Subscribed and liked this AWESOME video, as a retired individual I am looking to do even more buying bulk and freezing (all I have done in the past is meat ) I knew somethings get blanched but I have always had to call someone and ask ok how do I blanch this or that I will be checking out your channel for future instructions. ... never even heard of an ice-bath ... I did do a quick freeze (place on a cookie sheet and stick in freezer for 2 -4 hours not sure if this properly replaces the ice-bath). ....

      The cookie sheet method could work too. The point of the ice bath is to cool it down really fast so that it stops cooking. Thank you for your encouragement and kind words 😊

    This is the first video I've found that explained the WHY of blanching. I feel empowered now. Thank you! (As a minor quibble, your camera has MAJOR lens distortion. You probably already know that though.)

      Thank you so much. I was curious about the why, so I passed it on when I found out. Yeah, that camera had since been replaced 😉.

    Blanching also eliminates the cellular destruction caused by freezing raw vegetables.

    I blanched thick-sliced carrots and when i got around to use them, they were utterly tasteless. Did I do something wrong?

    • @asliceofheavenhomestead3559
      @asliceofheavenhomestead3559  2 года назад +2

      That's a good question. I haven't come across that problem yet. It could be that they didn't have a strong flavor to begin with.

    You didn't dry the carrots before freezing them?

    I didnt blanch my sliced carrots before I froze them yesterday! Can I still blanch them after I froze them? 😖 About 25 cups! Omg

    Do you peel the carrots before you cut them up to blanch them??

    • @asliceofheavenhomestead3559
      @asliceofheavenhomestead3559  2 года назад +1

      You can if you want to. I made sure to scrub them really well to get the dirt and little roots off, but there is nothing that says you have to peel them. 😁

    You really need to précis your script!
    This way we can reduce an 11-minute video to 3 minutes while preserving the work in a manner that is both clear and concise.
