The cinematography for this episode is gorgeous. The brawl with the nuns was...kinda hilarious but Daryl's presence, his personality is the most compelling aspect of episode one. I'm hooked on that.

They didn't really show the real france, all just oldy type nice scenery. It's a little cliche, as someone who lives in france.

Zombies have Daryl nightmares! He gives walkers PTSD! A walker bit Daryl... and after several days of agony, the walker died!
One thing I liked about the weapons is that no-one used a sword. Swords were back-up weapons in case you lost your spear, mace or hammer.
That is true but I want to add something
They’re not fighting living peoples here, they are fighting undead, undying zombie. Only damage to the brain stem will kill them, but cutting off limbs or an head will neutralize them or at least make them far less dangerous
Under these conditions, using a sword might be smart.
A combination of thrusting power to go through the brain stem, and cutting edge to cut off limbs and necks. A properlt sharpened sword will do that no problem, since walkers aren’t wearing armour in the overwhelming majority of cases
Hey guys. I love Daryl Dixon too I feel in love with his character from day 1. This show seems like a solid show for real. This show was actually filmed on location. Like the woman who plays the main none that Daryl talks to most of the time she played on harry-potter-and-the-goblet-of-fire that's probably where you know her from.
You're absolutely right. Her name is Clémence Poesy. She's a French actress mostly known for having portrayed Fleur Delacour, from French Wizardry School Beaux Bâtons in Harry Potter and the goblet of fire and Ron's sister in law in The deathly hallows 1&2 , married to Bill Weasley.

I thought this was better than Dead City. Really enjoyed it.
Dead city was sort of a let down later in the szn, the beginning started off really strong but they didn’t utilize the environment enough to the conflicts happening
this is way better imo, they put more thought into this and the cast is way bigger

Good start. Great theme song/intro. Excited to see the rest of the season. The lady at the end gave me huge CRM vibes. Especially when she mentioned walkers were test subjects.
I can't wait to see Rick again. Dead City and this show have made me believe that it's gonna be the best spinoff by far. Andy and Danai?? So good.

Love how the head nun pulled off a Talia al Ghul death.
I felt Hershel had a tougher struggle with his faith than Gabe did. But I think he found his faith in the end. But when times are tough is when your faith needs to be strongest. Can’t just believe when things are good. 😉
It's been a long time since an episode had me with tension and emotion, Daryl will always be my favorite character, I just want him to be happy.
And to think that originally, Daryl was supposed to die in Season 1 and Rick killed him. 😅😅😅

I think these spinoffs are great. Pacing is on point and I think the kid is immune. His mom got bit while she was pregnant. I believe they will pull the Ellie immunity thing.

That boat at the end reminded me of the one from last season of fear the walking dead where they had experiments and those same crates on the large ship I wonder if it's tying that in with that and the world beyond guess we will find out
The nun reminds me of Hild from The Last Kingdom.
As far as the gas for vehicles, I'd guess that when the end came, there was still a lot of gas in gas stations and left in vehicles that were abandoned. They just don't show all boring work of siphoning the gas etc.
i came into this show not excited at all because i was like man where could they possibly go with this story and daryl in france and just his character alone i didn’t feel like he could carry a show on his back but i will admit this episode changed everything ..i am so excited for whats next ..

I wasn't sure I was gonna. But the world building was so good. It made me want to come back
I think that maybe when he says “I ran into some bad people, that didn’t go well & I ended up washing up here”, maybe he ran into the CRM, maybe not the large part of the CRM but a smaller force or something but anyway maybe it was them & they sent him away cause he was causing issues or getting to close to finding Rick or something. Just a thought.

They set a premise, no matter what is up with the kid (I expect his mom is not dead), it's basically an attunement quest for him to get to the main thing, the port.
Also, Mr. Tattooface and his crew are working for the lady at the end, at The Harbor. They mentioned her name during the exchange with the girl and the old dude, who they kill.
Just like House Of The Dragon with the sister saying prophetic things, it seems like Laurent is doing the same. Not only did he say word for word what Judith said to Daryl, he also says things like "We will meet again" while the camera ominously focuses on him. I came into the show thinking he would be like Ellie, a cure somehow and that's why he's so special. But it seems like he may have some type of, idk, clairvoyance about him.
After the latest episode, that cure theory is more probable. Also, yea he does a weird psychic thing going on so maybe it's that and or maybe both.

Pleasantly surprised by this show! Much different vibe than Dead City which i wasn't as pleased as you were. Have to admit Daryl in France was a chance that i thought would not work! However A. Kang is an amazing writer and showrunner so i think this may be the spinoff that leads us back to the basics of the og show with a few twists! DD Forever!!

Pisses me off how I can't even watch these because there is no release date for them in the uk.
IKR? it's like a real kick in the balls to us UK viewers that have watched the entire main show...and now we are left hanging. I only managed to watch the final season of TWD by buying it on Amazon and having to wait a couple of weeks for each ep after it aired in the US. I was really looking forwards to both the Negan and Daryl shows. This sucks.

I think there are a TON of possibilities for tie ins after seeing the ship at the end, the fact they mention Maine, CRM, Fear TWD, Tales of TWD (Maine town) TWD World Beyond & their post credit scene in S2 mentioning the French being behind the apocalypse or variants, Maggie/Negan in New York, AND Rick & Michonne with the boat & CRM TOO!
I think it’s going to end with a huge CRM\French/our group battle or something bec it all has to culminate and end at some point lol. I’ve waited 13 years already! You make some great points. I don’t understand a few things you were saying like about the Maine thing and also you said they mentioned FTWD, tales, WB, post credit scene, etc…but who mentioned them where? It wasn’t in this show right?
As far as gun info. Yes, the old flintlocks and matchlocks are pretty indestructible. 100,200,300 year old rifles from museums and old armories can be in fully functional condition. Finding gun powder isn't terribly hard. Even making it only requires charcoal, sulfur, salt peter,and an alchohol base to slowly heat and combine them in. After the mixture air cools, making sure your static free the cake of black combustion material can be gently (GENTLY) crushed into the earliest form of black gun powder.

Yeah not a mini series anymore Dead City was renewed for a season 2, and I saw that Daryl Dixon has also been renewed for season 2. And we still got the Rick & Michonne spin off coming as well. So the main show may be over, but it's a whole new era for TWD shows it seems.

The Burners are a totally new type of walker, not seen in any other show. There are radioactive walkers in Fear, but those were directly affected by nuclear radiation from either a melting down power plant or bombs. Those walkers' blood aren't acidic, but getting some on you or engaging with them too closely can cause spread of radiation.
OK BUT HEAR ME OUT. As a french, I was amazed by the effort they put into the guns. Guns aren't really popular in France, and it makes perfect sense that a lot of the guns we see are like old WW1 rifles, becaude they are some of the only ones you can own without declaring it to the government. So, when a zombie apocalypse happens, it's most likely for the average french people to have "grandpa's old gun from the war" than some full auto stuff.
I hope they don’t pull punches on this series, I want to see absolute brutality, no hold barred walker variant killing. And I hope we see spin-offs with European Characters, adventures into greater Europe, the Mediterranean, Africa, and possibly Asia.
People can manufacture home made ethanol fuel with relative ease. Wouldn’t be too tough. The harder part is keeping engines going but it’s possible still

Just to let you guys know how lucky you are....the UK hasn't even aired Dead City.....The Walking Dead has been shown on different channels over the years and it's only through streaming that I caught up! You'd think the UK would be proud of the input by English actors (Samantha Morton, Andrew Lincoln, Lennie James, David Morrissey etc)....
