Something about the way he plays, thrills me like no other. Jimmy sounds like all the Beatles guitarists including Clapton were molded into one sound. John's great edgy ripping rhythmic percussive style. Macas melodic clean note separation precision melodies. George's later melodic bendy blues sound. What a talent he was.
@@Mikkeyboyy Sure helps to have macca as your bass player and singer. Laine as your rhythm. But I would have to disagree that Jimmy's terrific tone, sense of melody, and bluesy riffs happened because of the band. He made them sound better as much as vice versa.
Not many people can say they did much with their life when they were 19... but Jimmy clearly knew he wanted to play guitar and that's just what he did. not only did he play, but he was one of the most creative guitarists I've ever heard. It's no wonder he played lead and wrote solos for bands like Paul McCartney & Wings and Thunderclap outbid all the guitarists in the world, and of all the ones in Wings not many contributed as much as he did in so little time with so little thanks.
McCartney never appreciated his banmates. Once when Denny had had enough, Paul said something to the effect that he was lucky to be in his band and would be nobody without him (even tho Denny had been in the Moody Blues and wrote Go n I w, one of his minor hits.
He did not write a solo , but just did it without rehearsals and that it often seems in such cases he did it with such ease as if he was just breathing or walking down the street , for example . And this is a sign and component of any talent and skill . Just compare it to the two guitarists who are currently playing with McCartney at concerts . for 20 years , probably ( one is blond ,the other is dark ) . And this comparison will not be in their favor . Jimmy was vividly individual and unlike anyone else who probably plays the electric guitar now .
@@theresaakins2317 Denny didn't write Go Now and didn't even sing the original. It was written by Larry Banks and Milton Bennett and Denny/The Moodies did a straight copy of Bessie Bank's original - and a good copy but nowhere near as good as Bessie's. As for the Moodie's version being a minor hit? Well, it was a UK #1 and made the US top ten, so hardly 'minor'.

His leads were the perfect melody for the song every time. That dude could feel the direction of a song and play the fuck outta the proper lead for it.
If he were alive today he would be talked about in the same way we talk about Eddie Van Halen and Neal Schon. In fact, this video shows he already has it all.
What a great talent, Jimmy's work on the Thunderclap Newman "Something in the Air" was terrific, I have learned something by watching these videos made of Jimmy, always wanted to know who the TCNewman guitar player was. RIP Jimmy. Thanks for the superb sounds you left with us.
Jimmy McCullough took it from "Something in the Air" to the Rock N'Roll. I really like his playing style. It reminds me of Danny Kirwan's Fleetwood Mac, but with an edgier side. The tremolo riff tag is cool. Gibson Firebird humbucker great.
Just watched 2 platinum wings records be restored they were a gift to a women from jimmy thought id check the first video and came here Gonna watch his story now great player

Colin Allen was/is still a great drummer. He ups the tempo to match Jimmy's solo. So good together. They were good friends and wrote a number of songs together.
@4FabBEATLES: I agree with you, he was great but I wouldnt say 'with little thanks'. Paul McCartney thought very highly of him, this is obvious from the Wingspan DVD. But he got talked into leaving Wings by Steve Marriott. I dont think he was going to be thanked for that. It was the biggest regret of his life. Rock In Peace Jimmy
Jimmy was an formidable talent. So young.
discovered by Pete Townsend - you can just imagine how little Jimmy caught Pete's eye instantly
No way I didn’t know that 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Pete could barely stru chords, no lead at all. This guy was a lot better.
Pete should have brought him into The Who. They needed a lead guitarist.
It’s been written that Pete was Jimmy’s mentor. I guess that’s what they called it back in the day.
