I just made a bracket to go under the touch screen and attach to the frame with Tnut.. super easy and holds the extension cable out of sight.. :)

The issue is there is no refresh for the SD Card when it is changed. You have to put the extension slot in and out , or reboot the printer. There might be a "clear" switch internal on the card reader that wipes the cache when you remove the card. The extension doesn't allow this to happen.

Great upgrade!!! This is the biggest complaint my wife and I have with using the LK5 Pro. it's kind of a pain to get to that micro sd slot. Your upgrade fixes it perfectly!!! Thanks for taking the time to go over this and offer the 3D printed adapter mount to us!!!!!

when i take out the large sd card it does not take off the files i have to unplug the small cable is this normal should it not take the old files off the screen when i take out the sd card

So, glad this helped out. All my 3d printers came with that silly micro SD card.

Hmm...I'll have to see if this happens on mine. Perhaps powering down and re-starting the printer is a simple way to clear the file cache?

@@ajones4064 i did that and that works but if you take out the sd card should not the files go away until you put in a new one it seem like the printer is holding onto the memory of the card that was in there

Yes, you would think if the memory clears when pulling the sd card from the machine, it should do the same when using the extension. The extension may hold a slight voltage, or resistance value, for some reason and allow the cached memory to remain intact. This might be the trade-off for the convenience of accessing the sd card easier.

The issue with not being able to read the SD card without having it inserted into the extender/adapter before powering on the printer has to do with how the 'media change' notification to the printer is done at the microSD card slot on the printers motherboard, since the adapter basically makes the printer think that there is a card already in the slot it doesn't attempt to re-read the contents of the card. If you turn off the printer before you insert the card with any updated files then when you do turn on the printer it will do an initial check to see what files are on the SD card, however if you decide to remove the card and make any changes to any of the file on it you will once again need to power off the printer before inserting it into the adapter so that once again the printer will do an initial read of the card contents. It'd be nice if maybe someone could add a 'refresh' button to the file selector screen to make the printer re-read the cards but I don't know if that's something that's even possible.

Long winded, but to the point

I used the sticky tape that came with it to mount the card reader on the front of the frame.

btw the "file list" not updating kind of issue, Ender 3 V2's have same issue.
The printer does not know the card has been swapped out so doesnt refresh the list, power cycle or clicking the ribbon cables microsd card in and out again resolves it.

The downside still to this upgrade is you either have to turn the printer off every time you use the card or unplug and replug the adapter in when you put the card in. As crappy as it is you might as well stick to the stock setup so you can just put the card in or take it out without having to turn the printer off

Great vid sir ! Can you explain why my Longer LK5 Pro stops printing sudden while printing a stl file from my pc. It is so confusing and I can not find the problem. Thanks from Martin from Holland !

This might be long. I would start with run something else for an STL file. Sometimes it is just a bad STL. Also try running off the TF card and not the computer. Next, check and make sure the cooling fans are keeping the control board cool etc, nothing blocking under the machine etc like carpet. Also jump out the filament run out switch ( just in case ) I'm thinking these are the simple checks. Anyway, I'd run these test before doing a re-install of Marlin on the control board etc. Also note if the failure happens at the same point. That again would say software and a hint at where the trouble is coming from. Let me know how your doing.🤠

I just bought an LK5 Pro. It constantly throws an error 'Recovery Printing - Job is not done. Do you want to recover this printing?'. It did this 5 times during a 14 hour print. That was supposed to be a 28 hour print. But when I resumed from the 5th error, the extruder went too low and dislodged the print object from the bed. :| My question is, do you know why that error might be happening? And what is the longest print time you have had that was successful?
