@Sub Saibot ff13 is not the only trilogy in ff. FF7 had 4 episodes. The beginning as book, FF7 PS1, Crisis Core and the end in Advent Children Complet. ^^
When Hope was talking about bringing back Lightning, Vanille, and Fang and when he stops and says and his mom his face looked so sad i wanted to cry T~T
you cant play this without playing the first one, the connection you get with the characters in the first one will play affect on this one!!! this is a masterpiece, amazing cinematics that barely change in game, and a unreal storyline, what else can u ask for??
To be honest, Final Fantasy XIII was such an epic game with an amazing storyline. I played it and finished it and found myself liking it mostly because of its story. But when I played XIII-2 the story just became so faaaaaaar from the fucking thing I mean, seriously, FFXIII was actually quite believable with all the future stuff. But when it reached FFXIII-2 like holy shit everything just went blurry story-wise. The story in FFXIII-2 is not relevant to the story in its predecessor at all. I'm a big fan of FFXIII, but seriously, they should've just ended the story in FFXIII. I still love FFXIII-2 though, not for its story, but its gameplay. Playing LR right now and I can still say that the story is even more fucked than ever, but regardless, still playing it because it's actually pretty fun. God damn it Square Enix, I WANTED A GAME WITH A GREAT STORY! NOT A FUCKING GAME THAT HAS A SHITT ONE!
I realized that XIII-2 and LR were made as a filler since versus XIII, now XV, was still in development. XIII was already epic. The next two series were SE's experiment on time travel gameplay and plot.
Me going from old ff games to ffxiii-2 is a huge jump and seeing the advancement in the cinematics, elaborate environments, a less turned based battle feel, and the movement of characters during battle is amazing. People can complain that the game is short but those people are a waste of space themselves and fail to see the growth the ff series has gone through. Although ff7 is my favorite, this surely stands it's own. So thanks to the creators of the series to their devotion to us true gamers.
Agreed. Easily the best trilogy. Have played and beat them all too, FF1 through FF13-3. Nothing matches in terms of character development and storyline with FF13.
IMO FFXIII was amazing. Love Lightning, Fang and Vanille. So much effort was put into the story and it was almost magical. I'm a fan of the battle system good change from the basic attack and heal. Don't understand the gripe, Square's about make a trilogy, going to be the first in a FF game series. Also, what FF games haven't been linear??? There's only so much one can do in a JRPG, some aspects are going to be controlled no matter what. The linearity in FF games is nothing new...
I don't know, I liked FF13's music a bit better but FF13-2 has some great tracks as well and they even play what sounds to be metal in some cases like when you ride those red chocobos that steal your greens as you keep riding it and during the proto fal'cie fight there is what sounds to be rock or metal. I haven't got to the final boss yet, I'm in oerba doing the last of the wild artefact quests.
Remember when Final Fantasy was an event? A real treat? Each game was a self-contained story lasting hours and hours, and they only came along once every few years. They were special, and they meant something. Their stories began and ended in one epic sitting, and each one was distinct and always brought something new. Contrast that to now, where the main entries in the series can't be separated from the huge amount of spin-offs and remakes and fucking sub-sequels.
I say its good that they're making a good solid series out of 13, yes its linear but they're going for everyone one and trying not alienate people while changing for the future. The story is a good one, and not like the fuss of compilation of FFVII. I want to see what happens and people are entitled to opinions I understand. :) As I mentioned they're trying to appease everyone at the same time without lossing the Final Fantasy Formula I think.
I just beat this game. I have to admit I had a great time playing it. The story the gameplay and everything else was well done. I jut wish you had the power to summon powerful monsters like in FFX and you can play as lightning. But overall very put together games Can't wait for Final Fantasy IV
wiseguy240 Winston Agree, If it weren't for XIII-2 annoying puzzle quests I would've replayed it but in LR there's just something that's worth playing again.
Loved this Final Fantasy it re deemed the series for me after FF13. This game felt like a spiritual sequel for Chrono Cross to me, Noel reminded me a lot of Serge and Sera a lot of Kid.
@tisokan That's the major issue XIII has on everyone, but I think Square Enix is trying to break through the barrier that separates action-mmorpgs and strategy-mmorpgs, whilst not sacrificing graphics. Square Enix tried on FFXII as well, but that didn't go too well. Think of the progress the FF series is heading in: FFXII as alpha testing action-strategic-mmorpg, FFXIII as beta action-strategic-mmorpg, and FFXIII-2 as first release. I personally believe later series will have better gameplay
It's good that these FF characters were kind enough to step away from staring at themselves in the mirror long enough to make a game almost exactly the same as the rest of the series. Kudos.
No they are not continuous stories. The only ones that link together generally keep the same # in the title. Like XIII and XIII-2. Or X and X-2. And there were some that went with VII. Other than that, you can basically plan any of them w/out worry.
To clarify one bit, Dawn of Souls is 20th anniversary remake of FFI and FFII for PSP. It is also the best version of the game. FF 1, 4, 7, 10 and 13 have multiple games happening in that world.
Idk if you still need help choosing, but if I were you I'd get XIII-2, simply because it was a better game and you can always watch the first game on RUclips or get the plot summary from the Beginner's Primer in XIII-2. XIII-2 isn't perfect, but the characters are good, the plot is intriguing as hell, and the gameplay itself is much more enjoyable and much more worth your time.
play the game you will probably need to consult a wiki for full full explanation of events. But, yes, the movie spurred a mountain of requests. And then, when PS3 came out they did a techinical demo to showcase the abilities of the console that was done in 7's world and with 7's charachters. After that people thought that the remake is inevitable, but, no game. Recently, SE actually said that they most likely won't ever remake FF7. As for me, there is a PC mod that makes the textures clearer
since probably PS2 came out, fans were asking for some kind of remade version. These demenands sky-rocketed when FFVII: Advent Children the movie was released. And, yes, there is FF movie done in full 3D with some pretty amazing graphics, no real actors involved. About the movie, on one hand I would suggest you watch it because it very much brings the 7's world alive, however, on the other hand, if you watch it before playing the game you probably won't understand a thing. Hell, even if you do
Final Fantasy XIII and XIII-2 were both great games. I don't understand the hate the games get. IMHO, XIII-2 improved on the original game in every way.
Happy to be of assistance and that I menaged to interest you. There is a reason FF is considered one of the greates series of all time. Now, it isn't for anyone, but I don't think anyone can deny the greatness of stories and worlds and characters seen and explored within the series. I actually wasn't aware there was 6 available on Virtual Console, I don't own Wii so I am not fully up to date. Interesting piece of info there, all FF used to be on Nintendo's consoles (NES and SNES have FF 1 to 6)
It isn't a bad game, I just beat it a few days ago and got my crystarium expanded and now I'm at like 20k+ HP for everyone lol. I'm on mission 40 too but right now I'm trying out FF13-2 and so far its not bad. The battle system is definitely better and more fast paced with switching paradigms. The one second delay in FF13 was kinda annoying. I heard FF13-2 has more side quests and things to do which is always good for me. I just miss the world map, they should've never took that away.
7 is kind of a complicated issue simply because of its immense popularity and the fact that it is hailed as the greatest FF game, though, due to how tied the fans typically are, there are plenty of people who swear that 6 or 8 or 10 or 12 or any of the other ones are the greatest in the series, but 7 typically accepted as the best by vast mojority of fans. As for the remake, that has actually been one of the greatest questions in the community for years now. FFVII was released in 1998 and
The linearity was nothing that I even thought about before I read that XIII got criticized about that. And in my opinion XIII was a joy to play, lengthy, good story, good gameplay and with a great cast. In fact I thought that the linearity helped me to focus mainly on the story (which was awesome!) XIII-2 just felt smaller, a bit recycled and in the end a bit dull.... But I hope that XIII-3 will fix the issues that I had with XIII-2. And get me right, XIII-2 was good, but not as good as XIII.
Happy to be of assistance to a FF newcomer. I thought I had hit the reply button, but I guess not, not that it is relevant now anyway. As for 6, 7 and 10, those are FF that have generall consensus of having the best stories in the series, however, depending on the person, you may not like the story. 6 is set in steam punk world that is on the brink of destruction where magic is rarity, 7 is in cyber-punk-esque world, there is lot going on in but it does have amazing story and at the core of 10
While they are raging, the new and old FF's are of much different worlds now, but that is part of the charm of the FF series, it is always changing. And with each era, there is a new style for a new target demographic. We "old men" may be bitter and harsh from being ignored now, but our opinions aren't just bias. I would just wish they would calm down a little bit.
FFXIII-2 sequel for 13 also for PS3, FF Versus XIII for PS3 and FFXIV for PC/PS3. There is also FF Tactics and Tactics advance and FFT Advance 2 for PS1, DS. If you play for storyline 6,7 and 10 are generally considered to be the best and if you play for gameplay, it would probably be 3,5 and 13-2. There are only three FFs for PS3, two of which are out now, so, there is no discussion there, if you want PS3 FF, play 13 and then 13-2 and wait for Versus 13.
It is fighting and stuff but you do level up and collect weapons and armor and stuff, you get to create your own character and choose a name and everything, it's really good
@watru1234 if there is a problem with the game try removing updates then cancel your internet connection. then insert the game and play it w/o update to check if an update did not install correctly. This is one thing i would try to see if it is an update to the game for DLC things that they are working on.
Paradigms aren't automatic. Did you play the game? Despite what you think, it requires many different button presses to fight anything, and that's not even taking into account the QTEs.
is romance between main chars, but there is also issues about the world and existantial questions, which is similiar in a way to 6, especially in regards to Terra and Kefka, and 7, in regards to Shinra and Avalanche. Either way, you will see when you play and then you can decide if you like them or not, personally, I find them to be genius. As for consoles, 6 is on SNES and GBA, GBA version has extra superboss, Kaiser Dragon and extra dungeon but otherwise they are the same.
@xlordbimpyx First of all, you can't trade off game content without losing game graphics. FF XIII has, undoubtly, one of the best graphics in jrpg at present time. That means the contents take longer to produce and possibly more costly as well. Second of all, don't compare action rpg's with strategy rpg's. This is a matter of preference, and neither genre dictates which game is better or more fun to play. If you claim to be a die jrpg fan freak, you would focus on the positive attributes more
1:20 looks like Nero from Dirge Of Cerberus Final Fantasy VII 4:00 that guy looks like Squall from FFVIII 5:38 She looks like Athena from Saint Seiya Copy or Reality :)
Those all sound very good, especially the yakshana. I haven't run into yet though, where do you find it? For now I'll just make the flanitor as my main medic although Serah does a decent enough job on her own.
the critisism of XIII was completely valid imo though (I played FFX first and all I gotta say is, wow). But I played xiii-2 and am soooo happy with it, so I dont think its *completely* a case of nostalgia purists. Me personally anyway, i have a lot more hope in FF again and im sure many who played previous games do, and I wouldn't believe i'd say it, but would be keen on XIII-3 (hearing about the ending etc, i'm only 1/3 in).
The last Final Fantasy I played was FF XII, but I played a bit of FFXIII in my boyfriend's Play3 and have to say it's a good game!! I problably do not like the battle sistem too much, but in general it's a beautiful game!! And I would also love to play FFXIII-2 !!! :)
Sharbecca23, not to be like dissing or whatevs but, the point of the XIII series is that life isn't fair. Or as story wise, the events leading up to the end of the world. Part 1: people were divided by fear of the unknown and war broke. Part 2: the timeline is messed up and soon, time will cease to exists. Upcoming part 3: the last 13 days before time ends
The battle system definitely takes inspirations from FFX-2, but worry not, you won't be changing outfits during battle, unless you purchase the DLC of course, which is purely for aesthetics.
It figures, the band is unknown but at least you can get the soundtrack. At least with youtube you can listen for free but getting the soundtrack is nice if you really want to. Some games come with soundtracks like Lunar Eternal Blue and the music in that game is pretty awesome as is the game itself.
People may say what the want, but FF 13-2 is one of the best rpg's in my list together with FF 7 and FF 10. FF 13 had a good story, but i didnt really like the linear story telling. They improved ALOT with the 2nd part.
It looks like you can actually enjoy yourself off the main quest and around in towns and talking to people. But the reason i didnt like FF13 was because you always had to follow the main quest, not enjoying other things like discovering different kind of places. One thing i miss in these new final fantasys is the discovery of new exotic places and be able to discover other things apart from the actual story line. Too bad they cant go back to this because i enjoyed the game much more in the past.
Personally I think all Final Fantasy games are amazing, okay. If you like the old ffs, then play them. If you like the new ones, play them. If you don't, why are you here? Each final Fantasy is its own thing with its own soundtrack.. It isn't unicorn ass omfg. In my opinion most of the music is alluring in every aspect.
This is the first time that I play RPG's based games & also the first time that I play the FF series & I liked very much... This game have a twisted in time story, & its hard to learn how it works move forwards and backwards in time, but once that you get it is cool... The only thing that I got to say is the SE should aand must make a direct sequel to this game... I think that I will get FF XIII because of this game... PPDD:I'm a Zelda fan but nintendo got me very disapointed, so I bought a PS3
Thanks! I can't wait to start playing it in a few weeks when I'm on break from school. Which other final fantasy games do you recommend? :D This is my first one^^

@zak cooper ofcourse, but to know who the characters are and to feel connected to them, you do need to know what they have been through.
5:20 the Moogle's "uhumm!" is soooooo cute!
wait, i think Caius have Kain's (FFIV) voice..
The linearity was nothing that I even thought about before I read that XIII got criticized about that. And in my opinion XIII was a joy to play, lengthy, good story, good gameplay and with a great cast. In fact I thought that the linearity helped me to focus mainly on the story (which was awesome!)
XIII-2 just felt smaller, a bit recycled and in the end a bit dull....
I only recently started playing XIII-2, but two hours into play I think I got a pretty good grip on the overall picture of what happened before.
There are only three FFs for PS3, two of which are out now, so, there is no discussion there, if you want PS3 FF, play 13 and then 13-2 and wait for Versus 13.
great answer, i think the same...the old are there...i love the ff13, despite the corridors..
cheers!
It is fighting and stuff but you do level up and collect weapons and armor and stuff, you get to create your own character and choose a name and everything, it's really good
It's nice to see that they have been taking new music scores such as leona lewis for final fantasy games
Played this till the end of the story, watching this epic trailer makes me miss it. I need ff13-3!
If you claim to be a die jrpg fan freak, you would focus on the positive attributes more
1:20 looks like Nero from Dirge Of Cerberus Final Fantasy VII
4:00 that guy looks like Squall from FFVIII
5:38 She looks like Athena from Saint Seiya
Copy or Reality :)
Those all sound very good, especially the yakshana. I haven't run into yet though, where do you find it? For now I'll just make the flanitor as my main medic although Serah does a decent enough job on her own.
Literally JUST bought this game and so excited to play it, I LOVED FFXIII! =D
the critisism of XIII was completely valid imo though (I played FFX first and all I gotta say is, wow).
It is true, the project is called "Final Fantasy XIII: Lightning Saga" we don't know wether it's a game or a movie. Sept 1st cant come soon enough
Upcoming part 3: the last 13 days before time ends
i LOVE this game. it didnt have as good of a storyline than xiii but it was still a good game. Im glad they didnt take hope out of it :)
The battle system definitely takes inspirations from FFX-2, but worry not, you won't be changing outfits during battle, unless you purchase the DLC of course, which is purely for aesthetics.
I have to say I was very pleased with this game. . . i loved the whole thing and this made sence to me. . . this was beatiful(; well done
6:41 that voice is beautiful ! i remember staying from school for this game xD
I remember when I played this game with just 5 FPS and I completed all endings, mini games event their dlc though !! I miss this game so much
Personally I think all Final Fantasy games are amazing, okay. If you like the old ffs, then play them. If you like the new ones, play them. If you don't, why are you here? Each final Fantasy is its own thing with its own soundtrack.. It isn't unicorn ass omfg. In my opinion most of the music is alluring in every aspect.
I'm so glad I did see this trailer back in the day.
So beautiful. So powerful this game was.
Let's all prey for FFXIII-4
Thanks! I can't wait to start playing it in a few weeks when I'm on break from school.
Which other final fantasy games do you recommend? :D This is my first one^^
I recommend Final fantasy 7 remake
