Such an amazing band, they never got the attention or recognition they deserved,I still listen to this in 2024 as though it still new to me ,I get lost in it and always listen to no exit from beginning to end as one whole song ,just an amazingly well done artistry masterpiece
I love it because it has some thrash and power metal elements along with prog. Everything I love about metal. High pitch vocals, sick leads, weird time signatures etc..
I believe No Exit LP was written for John Arch as well, but listening to this Album and hearing Ray Alder sing, I think the band members were moving closer to capturing the style of Queensryche and Early classic Rush, by removing John Arch off vocals, they removed that heavy English accent... for the smooth crisp accent of Ray Alder..... no disrespect to former singer John Arch, but, the way they got rid of him for Ray Alder, after an impressive performance, make them look like a band in search of Geoff Tate
Though The Guardian, with former Lead vocalist John Arch, was one of the greatest Prog-metal albums of all time, here Fates Warning is pushing forward with New singer Ray Alder, in my opinion, trying to capture the feel of Rush, Queensryche, Crimson Glory, Mystic Force, Lethal However , “NO Exit” proved to be another Classic album.
This video just made my fucking week. I remember those days when music was not all synthesized. Partying in the venues parking lots, cops wouldn't fuck with us long hairs (we were to much paperwork). PEACE!
Meeeeeeeeeeeeeen dit is een vet nummer!!!! live gezien in Baarlo. Beste concert ooit. Voorprogramma van Fates bekeken samen met Ray achter in de zaal. Mindblowing!!!!
Their record label, Metal Blade Records, did a shitty job promoting them. They should have focused their attention on the European/South American, and even the Japanese markets.
Here in South America, Fates Warning is not big, but since we love Dream Theater(and even Queensrÿche, but they don't play around here anymore), I guess FW would be big.
Never heard of them til after high-school from a friend early 90s. Pretty much one of the last metal bands I got into since they released Perfect Symmetry video at the time. I prefer the older heavy stuff better for sure. Grunge took over the airwaves at that point but definitely a hard-core metal fan even then. I was also still listening to Voivod and found out even later bands like Coroner put out some progressive albums.
THANK YOU for this post. It must be relatively new, because I've looked for The Ivory Gate of Dreams live before, and never found it. This has fulfilled one of my great desires. To see Fates Warning perform this in 1988, when it was new. It's one of my favorite pieces of music. Really, Mateus, Thank You...
If this was at Toad's Place in New Haven, Perfect Symmetry tour '89 (Mark Zonder on drums), I was there, toward the back right. It was great to finally see these guys live after hearing about them through my buddy Eric Ridel back then, who used to jam/hang with some of the guys in E. Hartford, CT before they got big. Fates is awesome!
Yes, my friend! Thanx for comment, i'm from Brazil, they play in here in 2012, for the first time, in Sao Paulo... A dream realized... Thats all right, FW rules!!!!
Kirstin Morrison be careful with that word "true". I feel ya but there is a lot of metal that sounds nothing like this and it is still "true". including fates warning themselves! respect.
Marcus Blackfellow fair enough. question. can telling someone to not sound like a douche, when clearly no douchery was intended, be considered a little douchey in and of itself? just a question.
+verve92 It is common knowledge Ray ruined his voice, and continues to make it worse, by smoking like a chimney. Aging is cruel on all vocalists (more so for men than women), but it's nothing compared to cigarettes. Combine them and you have Ray, whom I still enjoy, but whom I and many other long-time Fates fans, feel quite frustrated with for squandering an amazing gift.
Love seeing Alder sporting a "Powermad" shirt, yet another band that didn't get the recognition they deserved, and they released an album (unsigned) 2 years ago called "Infinite" and it freaking deserves a label. So happy that FW is still producing awesome music. Hopefully we'll get another Arch/Matheos album too :).
I always thought the album was incomplete sounds like a demo im a fan since brokeon they deserved more cash to do this album if they would have rethought some of the arrangements its real close to being great could have been another hemisphere
Back in the day, I was pissed I missed this tour, but I see I didn't miss much...the band is spot on, but Ray is obviously drunk off his ass that his vocals are all over the map....
Ray is super energetic and not standing in one spot. This music is so technically demanding to sing-the breathing, the flipping between chest and head voice...etc. I think Ray sounds good here.
Fates Warning is without a doubt a great Metal Band, but if you're saying that they are better than the Bob Rock remake of Metallica, I could surely agree with you, but if you're talking about the Metallica with Cliff Burton... and first album with Jason Newsted, I would have to say : No disrespect, but you're out of your fucking mind....nothing could come close to the 80’s Metallica Albums, Kill’em All, Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets, And Justice for all are f*king masterpieces using the NWOBHM style, and Metallica did it with perfection, Fates Warning is great, but can’t touch that 80’s Metallica
Metallica are plagiarists....Fates Warning doesn't need to rip off other bands. They are superior to Metallica in every way. Are you kidding me????? Kirk Hamster not even on his best day can touch Frank and Jim...I bet you loved those pics of Lars kissing Kirk huh...Don't ever disrespect Fates Warning like that. Metallica are rip off artists. Period.
@@earljones920Met can’t touch Slayer, line their albums up and Slayer rips them apart..Fates are superior musicians, hands downs! There isn’t a single song of Fates that Met could play, Fates guys could play any and every song by Met, one armed, blindfolded and guitars/drums setup backwards, just my 2 cents 😂
The addition of Mark Zonder graduated their sound. But I will always believe that it was NOT having John Arch was the thing that held them back a little. Ray Alder always turned me off a little because of his propensity to hurl his voice full force into every note with a 10th of the craftsmanship that Arch used to accent the rest of the melody. I can almost hear the parts that Arch would have made far more memorable with his vocals in their later writing. Sorry if its not a popular opinion.
I remember an interview wth Ray talkin about how Metal Blade was majorly rushing the album to gt done and meanwhile he's presented wth this masterpiece/and the rest of the album(one of the best prog metal albums still) and he jst entered the band. He admitted rushing the vocal arrangements. In a way you can kinda hear it..sounds like yr hearing that as well. Perfect Symmetry still my fav. Album from them but this song... Always been an amazing piece regardless what Ray said about it. It jst wrkd in my book.
Such an amazing band, they never got the attention or recognition they deserved,I still listen to this in 2024 as though it still new to me ,I get lost in it and always listen to no exit from beginning to end as one whole song ,just an amazingly well done artistry masterpiece
the album 'no exit' is a masterpiece! and the voice of ray alder is UNBELIVABLE!!!
John Arch was also awesome.
No Exit, Truly one of the best Progressive Metal LP's ever. I have it on vinyl.
i have 2 copies and always looking for another :P ditto pretty much any FW
Hanging on my wall. Some of the tightest, sickest distortion ever recorded imo.
I love it because it has some thrash and power metal elements along with prog.
Everything I love about metal. High pitch vocals, sick leads, weird time signatures etc..
I still have my vinyl. Just found my Night on Brocken
Masterpiece= Fates Warning... The Best band in the world!!!!!!!
But... you can tell this was not written for Ray Alder, but for John Arch. I would love to hear him sing this.

@@earljones920I am all about John Arch. I am not as much of a Ray Adler fan. Because NO ONE sounds like John Arch but many sound like Ray Adler
I was at this show...Toad's Place, New Haven late '89. Incredible!
Wish I was there, would've loved to see them live.
I was there, too!
THIS OPENING IS ONE OF THE TOP FIVE IN THE UNIVERSEEEEEEE
I'm 52 now n this fates warning album has stood the test of time 💪❤
Classic album. Been listening to it for decades
Classic album. Have on vinyl. Still listen today. Like both singers a lot. So different they almost incomparable!

In my top 5 .....favourite bands...!!!!
I seen this tour in Philly at the Empire Rock Club. Powermad opened for them. They were amazing!!
Unbelievable talent........yes,talent.something that is rarely seen anymore.

This is pure gold.. thank you so much!!
Halford - like & Geoff Tate both in on.
Mattheos & Zonder = WOW OMG THIS IS GREAT !
RUSH fans listen to "No Exit" LP 1988 by F.W. from Connecticut.
Favorite band of all time

Holly Sh... This video is a gem! Thx for sharing this 🤘
Whoever filmed this excellent live concert.. over killed it with that annoying- non-stop- slow motion camera effect.
Right into my FATES WARNING playlist :) Thank you :) ROCK ON!!!!!!!!
Just an absolutely awesome performance, really miss those days.

oh oops is that tooooo 'douchy' ?
This was a great record.
'The Ivory G.O.D.' it is!!!
One my favorite sons all time
Clássico, uma das melhores do Fates. O ultimo álbum também é fantástico.
Thanks for this. Love them.
They toured together in '89. My buddy worked for Metal Blade and got us "on the list" for the show up in Cleveland. Mind blowing.
Was that at Shadows on Brookpark or Flash's?
Masterpiece!!!!!’
Not only was this a great show I attended it in NH CT.
Awesome fates warning coming for you. Jim and ray mark engine redemtion thanks for the great music and life
I love this song
I've only heard this tape 53 times? If I can't move on, it's not a bad place to be. Rock on, my friends, next round's on you.
Thanx for sharing this amazing stuff!!!!!
The best version (closest to cd) of QUIETUS ive seen!! :-))
Best line up too, Perfect Sem album must already have been out by now.....
Amazing!
How was the band not bigger than they were? They were amazing....even the cheesy stuff!
Ray, I miss your singing!
I saw them in 1990,in Galanta-Slovakia,together with Sanctuary and Secrecy, too.
Awesome 😎
Good stuff here
A Dream Come True...
Good old days
what 2112 is for Rush, is this track for FW !
You realy think 2112 is this good?
@@gregberry1812 Yes.

Awesome!
i saw them at the shack in anahiem ca its now a piasa club same with goodies - 369
I C, Yeah, they deserve a lot more of credit...Progressive Metal at it's best.
Powermad!!!!! Also another great and underrated band
This is in a higher key than in the studio!
Yup. E vs Eb. Good catch!
I was there New Haven CT
This is really great, some vocals are kinda left wanting, but otherwise just amazing - also some vocal moments are pure brilliance.
Ray was on back then .What a voice He once had , To much touring can kill singers Range. But he Still sounds great today .
nemtall I believe you mean "too much smoking cigarettes". He still smokes, and it shows.
+Marcus Blackfellow The guy is almost 50 now. So he's gonna sing lower.

Thanks for the PMAD love ya'll.
Вокал на Висперс оф зе винд классный. Самая любимая песня у FW
this is really awesome lollll he's wearing a powermad shirt, that's even more obscure than FW
Doubt he'd be wearing a "popular" bands shirt. He's influenced by Maiden and Priest is my guess.
They toured with Powermad.
🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘❤️!!! SOUNDS so good 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
great
great post! Thanks!
Unf@cking believable.... Sow this song ones live in Baarlo. It stretched my neck lol. Great to see it again...

GmanRushFan77 Yeah he was a little off but still great, not a lot of singers can do this.
I thought he fuckin crushed it so...theres that
Amazing to see TIGOD performed live! Just wish the cameraman laid off the stupid 80s video effects though!
