  • Lately, we have been noticing a lot of trekkers who come unprepared for the Kashmir Great Lakes Trek, and are struggling on day 1 itself. This means that our Trek Leaders are having to send back a lot of trekkers who are unable to cope with the long trek days that this trek has. We have even seen a lot of trekkers voluntarily backing out after day 1.
In this video, our Senior Trek Leader Dushyant Sharma gives a reality check on the difficulty of this trek, and why prior fitness preparation is extremely important for anyone registering for this trek.

Each day, what is the distance that trekkers need to cover? And do we need to carry our backpack or we get porters to carry bigger backpack while we carry smaller one.

This was definitely the need of the hour. Considering it as a monsoon trek, it is very normal that it would rain, which makes the trail more tricky and difficult at certain patches. I myself came back from KGL this 24th. we were the only team to complete the trek after continuous rainfall on the 19th,20th and 21st. Not even Indiahikes went forward. Don't go after the beauty, after all, it is a high altitude Himalayan trek. Take it seriously!

Why do you scare people when you have no proof of you trekking there.
Only mid July upto early September is rainy weather in kashmir.

I recently did this trek by myself. I would recommend experienced trekkers to not go with any trekking companies if you really want to explore hidden lakes (and the most beautiful ones) in the mountains. These lakes really make this trek worthwhile. Believe in yourself ✌️

If you are a group then ok but if you are doing it solo. Not recommended. Shepherd dog 🐶 are ready to take your test any time. There are many tricky patches where you need a group/friend to help you.

@@PuneriArun This trek is full of trekkers. Therefore, one is never solo and Shepherd dogs are going to attack a person if one is using the wrong way. Irrespective of Solo or in group. That's the reason I mentioned "

This is definitely the need of the hour but can you also restrict the number of people in the batch? My friends batch had 29! And there is a batch every day! And I truly don’t know if people are even being screened for fitness. I mean I just completed pin bhabha pass 2 weeks ago and I still sent my running screenshots as a criteria for this trek which is coming up next week. I love Indiahikes but my suggestion is you really need to put a cap on how many can be allowed for Moderate- Difficult treks.

Hi Zaara, looks like there were extra team members in your friend's group because a lot of them were rerouted from Himachal treks to Kashmir treks that week. Himachal treks faced a red alert because of the monsoon and trekkers couldn't trek in Himachal. On all our treks, the average size of the group is around 18-20 trekkers, unless there are sudden emergencies like these.

@@swathichatrapathy1058 hi actually I finished the pin bhabha pass on July 18th and my friend was with me and he showed me the group count saying a month before itself it was 29 people, and I am all set for KGL this week and it’s crossed 23 people already. The point is I am wondering 25 people per batch 6 days week and that is 600 on that trail in a month! I am truly wondering about the screening process, isn’t it better to screen before even signing up? I I have been only trekking with Indiahikes but this time I am honestly disappointed that so many people are being taken in like a herd every day of the week. Even if we leave no waste trail as your team keeps saying, it is a lot, 600 trekkers in a month excluding the kitchen and technical team.
