- Today we finish up the seat belt installation by making custom metal recessed boxes to install the seat belt retractors into the quarter panel area just behind the door jambs. Lots of calculating and head scratching but we got it done.
If you have a project you would like to showcase at the end of one of my videos just email me a few pics and a short description to: foothillpaintandfabrication@gmail.com
Late model seat belts. Muscle car seat belts.
Really enjoyed the video Mark. I had no idea about the charges and steel shot in the retractors. Your methodical problem solving is fun to watch. Nice work!
Thanks Robert, some use a straight rod with teeth and others do it this way as far as I can tell.
Great job, I am also a much better grinder than I am a welder so it works out.
Thanks David, there is a T shirt about that. Welding 16 gauge to 19 gauge with a gap takes patience.
Hi Mark was you able to find a bigger set of electrodes!
No I didn't, I did a quick search though.
Very well done. I like your attention to detail and the way you explain why.
Thanks, talking to myself as much as the camera sometimes.
Which seat belts did you end up going with for the fronts?
Sorry I should have mentioned that. I did in the previous video for the rears. They came out of a Pontiac G5 2door. I think it was a 2006 or 2007.
Very nice work
Thank you, I appreciate that.
Nice job Mark. Yours were a lot more complicated than my 54 Buick's. I purchased mine from Seat belt planet, made right here in Oklahoma. I measuered them according to the instructions on there website and they custom made me a set of passive sholder belts for the front and lap belts for the rear at a very competitve price I might add.
Thanks Matt, I think all four sets cost me 60 bucks so pretty good. Do they have recessed retractors?
@@FoothillPaintandFabrication No, nothing that slick, but the Buick has a lot of cabin space.
@@mattsteffee That is for sure.
