Loki going full circle to form Yggdrasil from the strands of all the timelines, him sitting in the heart of everything that is time...is SUCH a genius idea from the writers, when he started out as a bratty asshole child who wanted power for himself with no care for others.. now sitting on his throne, TAKING CARE of EVERYONE across time is not only a grand sacrifice but the true meaning of GLORIOUS PURPOSE.
I mean not really for himself, the momma’s boy had clear daddy issues from the minute we first saw him in Thor. He has multiple chances to end Odin but still saves him. Even at the end of Thor he says “I could have done it, Father! I could have done it! For you! For all of us!”. He spent his life trying to prove himself to Odin. Sure Odin tells his sons he loves them before dying in ragnarok, but I would’ve liked to have seen some sort of reunion between loki and his parents. At least his mom. Thor got his in the last avengers movie.
Also, his arc came full circle from the first season where Sif warns him that he will always be alone in the end because he'll never care about anybody but himself, but in the end he chooses to take on the burden where he must be alone because he cares about everybody else.
Not to mention that he gave up wanting power and the throne because he found friends only to find that he had to take the throne in order to save them.
The only way I can interpret the very end without getting super upset is that even though Loki is "out of time" holding everything together, I like to think he can look into whatever timeline he wants to see what's going on. When Mobius and Sylvie are talking at the end, every time the camera cuts to Mobius, you can see green and gold lighting over his shoulders. I like to think that that's Loki looking down and checking in on Mobius to see how he's doing and when he says he's going to "let time pass", that's why Loki gives a little smile at the end when the camera zooms in on him. Obviously this is just a theory but it makes Loki being stuck alone SLIGHTLY less of a stab in my heart lol
The season 2 finale is the highest rated episode of a marvel show on IMDb with 9.6/10 and I think that’s so deserved. Such an amazing end to a character arc. I’m still thinking about it days later and trying to untangle all my thoughts and feelings.
In Thor the first movie...At the end scene..Where Loki "dies" by letting go of Odin..He says "I could've done it, father..for you..for all of us" Here Loki repeats the same line at the end.."I know what kind of god I have to be..for you..for all of us".. “For you… For all of us.” The last several minutes was some of the most beautiful and tear jerking moments in all of the MCU. Tom Hiddleston truly shines in these moments (as always). It’s a perfect bookend to Loki’s earliest MCU moments and if the MCU just stopped here, it’d be a perfect finish.
In my head, this is (effectively) where the MCU stops. Like... everything after endgame has been just... so, so terrible. Except Loki, which has felt so incredible the entire time. To me, this is the real ending of the entire Endgame saga; Thematically, it just fits. The entire history between the first Iron Man and Endgame was about loss, sacrifice and ultimately redemption; and, like Tony Stark's, Loki's sacrifice is not just cosmically consequential, it's eternal.
"It looks like a tree." And if you know your Norse mythology, you'll know that this is Yggdrasil, the World Tree. The most sacred thing for the Norses, which connects all the worlds, and now all the timelines. That final episode was beautiful, and we saw Loki becoming the God of Stories, or at least the MCU version of him.
For someone who was called Selfish and someone who didn't want to be alone...he did one of the most selfless thing in the history of selfless acts..And he is alone..and burdened with glorious purpose.
Thank you Tom for 14 great years of an amazingly written and beautifully and masterfully portrayed character. I wish you truly all the best in your career. While you will be missed, we will always have Loki in our hearts and minds. It’s just so sad cause Loki has been such a huge part of my life. I’ve been crying about it since the finale
Tom Hiddleston said he's retiring Loki as a character on the Jimmy Fallon show the other night. His 14 year journey as Loki is done. I think if we see any Loki's later on it will probably be Sylvie.
Not the throne he wanted, but now able (after centuries of trying) to go from conqueror to savior is the best for Loki. His little smile after Sylvie and Mobius discussed their future was a perfect touch to end this season! ...Series?
It was a bittersweet ending but a great one, His character development from a selfish god to a selfless one with a throne. He ended up alone but he knows his friends are safe from getting "spaghettified". To see a character you've grown up with to end his arc is a one of a kind experience. This series is one of the best mcu series that marvel made.
We get to see a Loki get exactly what he said he wanted, but also his greatest fear. Absolute control and power of all time and space, but no friends or family. Excellent Monkey's Paw writing.
He sacrificed himself to save his friends. He took on the burden of being the God they needed and got the throne he never wanted. He'll be alone forever, holding everything together - able to watch but not really be there. His "Glorious Purpose" fulfilled. He made Ygdrassyl- the World Tree of Norse mythology that Thor talked about in his first movie.
This whole season is tying into the current comics story with Loki being "The God of Stories" which makes him the most powerful version his character has ever been. He controls the narrative of any story he is in, essentially becoming the writer. If he encounters a problem, he can literally imagine his way out of it, or write the problem out of the story. This will definitely come back into the MCU at some point.
from "Loki wanted to be god for the wrong reasons" to the development of "loki becomes god for the sake of humanity" see? that's character development right there!
21:45 Loki accidentally time slipped out, and Sylvie used her tempad to get out. At this point she thinks it just reset everyone to their timelines and destroyed the TVA, she doesn't know things are being deleted.
I wouldn't be surprised if Loki kicks off the next Avenger movies dealing with the dangerous He Who Remain variants. But at the same time, this is a perfect retirement. It has been 12 years for Tom after all.
BryanFritchie The ending literally teases the fact that Kang variants are still out there and the TVA is hunting them down. That seems like the exact opposite situation to me lol
@rileyribble6733 The ending shows that He Who Remains is nothing more than a minor variant like everyone else, and that the Kang variants have no idea the TVA even exists (they litterally state this). Unless something really big changes, Jonathan Majors will never be in another MCU project again. 🤷🏻♂️
loki finally found his throne, and his glorious purpose, when he stopped scheming for it. its bittersweet, but he takes on this burden by choice for his friends. so they can live. Its amazing character growth and a great epic ending.
for loki, the god of mischief , a being of pure ego, when confronted with the concept of losing what he sees as a better version of himself, to sacrifice all his ego to sit forever at the end of time, holding the multiverse together, it such a fantastic character arc. Loved it. no notes.
A fantastic finale! We may not see Loki for a while or ever again, but hopefully it's not the last time we see our friends at the TVA. Heartbreaking if it really is the last time we will see of Tom Hiddleston as Loki though ='[
Everyone has been saying that he made the sacrifice and will be alone forever but I say that since he’s holding and connected to all the timelines he is now with everyone in all universes.
I LOVE the cinematography in the scene with Loki and Sylvie discussing the future of the TVA in the Pie Room. When Sylvie says that it's "playing God," you expect Loki to reply "We are gods," which he does. But you expect a closeup on his face, a smug smirk or something. Instead the camera pulls WAY back, making him and Sylvie look so small in the great empty space. Then Loki strides towards camera, and the low angle makes him look like a giant. Elegantly capturing, just through the visuals, that this isn't about power and glory and worship and throne for Loki anymore: it's a heavy, weighty responsibility that he's learning to accept. He truly is, as he once claimed, "burdened with glorious purpose."
A great ending to the season, the show, and the character. Hiddleston knocked it out of the park and this is a perfect way to hang up the horns and cape.
Loki is now the God of stories. As such he has the power to send versions of himself to different timelines. But to preserve free will, I suspect he will have to take away his own memory. He will know he's Loki and his mission is to preserve time and existence. He won't remember his friends, the Avengers, Thor, the TVA or himself at the center of the tree of life. That's my theory anyway.
Tom is hanging up the crown, 14 years that really would never have happened if he wasn't just such a great actor. Seriously Tom Hiddleston, what a stunning series of performances. And what an amazing way to bow out. The god of mischief, becomes the god of stories. Just perfect. But Loki isn't gone. She's just got a new name now.
Honestly... maybe it's time to retire the MCU. Everything that's come out since Endgame has been kind of terrible, with the shows being okay -- except Loki, which has been absolutely stellar, even rivalling a lot of the actual films in the MCU in terms of storytelling and quality. But after this, there are no more "big bads" that really matter; we watched Loki sacrifice himself to keep the whole of the multiverse together. There's no singular entity that could ever be as powerful as Loki has become, and thus it doesn't really make sense for the MCU to continue on -- every new hero and every new villain will always feel shallow compared to Loki (in both regards).
@@bigmike-Why are you sticking your "The MCU sucks!!!1!11!" post on me? Honestly, I've really enjoyed most of Phase Four. Some of it isn't good. Yeah. No one bats 100%. A lot of people hated Thor during phase one. You know the film that brought this very character to the screen. Did you just come here to throw hate? Seems like it to me. All I can suggest is that you maybe... grow up. And take your sad little hate away from my post. Rofl, "BIGmike" yeah that's clearly not reality.
When loki teleports back and he's decided on his fate i love the way the computer says "welcome he who remains" because thats who he's chose to replace
"I want my friends back! I want my friends back. I don't want to be alone." But now he's alone for all time, keeping the timelines alive, so his friends can live.....
Loki variant of 616 (Our Loki) followed the advice of Old Loki that he gave it last season. Take himself out of the equation that made him survive from been prune by the TVA. So, our Loki does that to make sure all the Multiverse Timeline survive by holding it all with the use of his power to make the branches alive. So he need to be there for eternity to hold it. Alone by the Burden of Glorious Purpose....
35:50 fun fact (or at least an observation I noticed & is a head cannon I have), when Loki arrives this time the machine is saying “welcome, he-who-remains” but it’s not saying it to Victor but rather to Loki… because he’s the *✨NEW✨* he-who-remains.
The BEST MCU Disney Plus project, and a great conclusion to the character arcs. And it seems like Tom Hiddleston is done playing Loki so...a bittersweet end and hopefully this show helps to finally tie together the Multiverse Saga.
Loki 2x5: Man, this episode of Loki was absolutely amazing! The opening scene with Loki jumping through different timelines was mind-blowing and set the tone for the rest of the attack. It was so cool to see him come face to face with his past self, and it was both funny and touching. Watching how much he has grown and changed throughout the series was fantastic. Overall, this episode was top-notch - the writing, the acting, everything was on point. And those quick shots of Loki time-slipping between different places like Alcatraz, B-15's hospital, Ouroboros' lab, Mobius' jet ski store, and even McDonald's were such a clever way to hint at why he was found at those specific points in time. It was subtle, but it worked like a charm. In both Loki Season 2 and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the concept of "spaghettification" was utilized to show the removal of timelines and characters from existence. This creative decision effectively communicates the permanent and catastrophic nature of these occurrences, underscoring the vulnerability of the multiverse and the repercussions of tampering with the delicate balance of time. The moment in Episode 5 where Loki struggles to control his time-traveling is a clever nod to his earlier encounter with Ravonna Renslayer in Episode 1, highlighting his waning influence within the TVA's realm where his powers are rendered useless. In the first episode, Loki tries to show off his magic skills to Ravonna, but she effortlessly overpowers him, leaving him humbled and realizing that the TVA holds all the power. This encounter serves as a wake-up call for Loki, crushing his belief in his invincibility and highlighting the immense authority of the TVA. Similarly, in Episode 5, Loki's attempts to manipulate his time-slipping abilities are equally ineffective and comical. The scene is intentionally prolonged, showcasing Loki's intense concentration and determination as he struggles to control his temporal movements. However, despite his best efforts, he can only manage a slight twitch, further emphasizing his powerlessness within the TVA. A.D. Doug's timeline serves as the primary visual reference for the TVA. His workshop is almost identical to an OB's in the TVA, complete with a hanging structure that resembles the Temporal Loom. This visual connection between A.D. Doug's workshop and the TVA's OBs is significant because it links the various timelines and universes in the MCU. It also implies that the TVA may have a more profound impact on the multiverse than previously believed. Additionally, the title card for this episode cleverly foreshadows the attack by showing the letters in "Loki" disappearing and reappearing, representing the instability and chaos of Loki's timeline. Zaniac's post-credit audio stinger taunts viewers with the phrase, "You died, insert a coin, LOSER!" which is a direct nod to the arcade game of the same name. The scene also features the arcade machine, with a subtle Easter egg of Tony Stark's face reflected on the screen.
Marvel has changed Loki's biography from the God of Mischief to the God of Stories. :) Yggdrasil, the immense and central sacred tree in Norse cosmology, around which exists all the Nine Realms, now includes the multiverse. Such a nice ending(for now) to a really amazing decade long story arc for Loki.
I love the Loki series finale, it really brings a lot of things back full circle from the first season. 🙂 Loki in the first season was talking about his glorious purpose, but we also see Sif warning him that he'll always be alone because he only cares about himself. But in the end, after Mobius advises Loki that with great purpose comes great burden, Loki ultimately chooses to take on the burden of forever being alone because he has come to care so much for everybody else. On a tangent, it was also pretty funny coincidence for me because, just a few days before I watched season 2 of Loki, I happened to watch Tom Cruise's movie Edge of Tomorrow which has a VERY similar theme of the main character replaying the same scenario countless times in an endless loop trying in vain to accomplish something. This finale and that movie definitely have a similar vibe! 😄
the antman showed a variant of he who remains who is evil so maybe the war will happen and Loki and avengers will team up if so i cant wait for thor and Loki to meet again
The Loki ending was sooooo good! I watched the finale, and The Marvels on the same day, and I think Marvel might be coming back. It might be too late to tell (I'm sure it is), but if Marvel keeps naming things like this, I think they'll be back on top in no time.
Loki Season 2 was great. But don't act like The Marvels was, or that any relevant amount of people cared about that movie for that matter. The Marvels made less than the massive flops that were The Eternals, The Incredible Hulk, or even that disaster called The Flash over the opening weekend. It made around 2/3's their amount, a whooping 47 mil domestically, with a budget of close to 300 mil. Marvel can come back, i have no doubt about that, but only if the continue with the qualitiy from Loki season 2, don't screw up the X-Men and stop giving us horrible knockoff versions of the original MCU cast, just gender and/or raceswapped without actual story reasons, but just to hit a "mUh DiVeRsItY" quota. (She-Hulk, IronHeart, Kate Bishop, female Black Panther, Black Captain America, discount Black Widow)
@DarkSun123456789 I didn't think that The Marvels would make enough money, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. Yes, I do understand that not everyone loves movies the way I do, but I believe in being positive about movies nonetheless. I will say, though, that Marvel needs to start making better projects again, and Loki should set an example. I won't lie and say that The Marvels was amazing, but I don't think it was terrible, either. With some good writing and an understanding of the source material, I think that Marvel could come back stronger than ever. I don't know if your comment was trying to shame me or not, but I thought I'd put my opinion out there.
@@TheEmeraldSword86 No, no shame at all. But just putting out the facts against your "with Loki and The Marvels, i think Marvel is coming back" statement. Because these 2 are an absolute contradiction from each other considering quality. I'll never say someone can not enjoy a movie/show, there is some trashy movies and shows that i like. The thing is though, that i realize they are trashy and objectively speaking, from CGI to missing story parts (like someone wrote, this feels more like Cpt. Marvel 3 and we never got 2) over the forgettable villain to the idiotic plan and death of said villain, The Marvels doesn't really have all that much going for it, unless you like the characters or actresses, and that is a bar too low for me to squeeze through, cause i care for neither, and so do most other comic fans, else Cpt./Mrs Marvel wouldn't have been rebooted time and time again in the comics.
@DarkSun123456789 I get it. I wasn't really saying the The Marvels was fantastic, I thought it was just fine. I just happened to put it with Loki. Loki was fantastic, and I think that Marvel can come back if they keep making projects like it. The Marvels, while I did enjoy, was definitely playing it safe, and could've been better with a rewrite or two. Overall, Marvel's having a semi-good year.
I only just watched this second season to watch your reactions. I'm a bit mad that no one told me how amazing this season of Loki was when it came out.
@@aadilshekhi6049I’m genuinely curious I keep hearing people call him that is that a name from the comics or something? Like where did that come from “ the god of stories” it is cool though
He basically became the Greek Titan Atlas - only that he has to weave the strands of Time for the ENTIRE MULTIVERSE for all of eternity. There's no way there will EVER be a greater arc in the entire MCU. That season hard-carried Phase 5 and made Loki my favourite show on Disney+, at least the one I also enjoyed.
Did an AI search on the meaning of Victor’s expression Pumpkins, here’s the text: The exclamation “pumpkins” in the 1890’s would likely mean that something is really terrific or impressive. It was a slang term used to express admiration or excitement for something. For example, someone might say “pumpkins” after seeing a spectacular fireworks show or a stunning dress. This term originated in the 19th century U.S. and was also spelled as “punkins” or “pumpkings”.
Tom H was on The Tonight Show and said it marked the end of season two. The end of season one/two and is the culmination of 6 films, 12 episodes and 14 years of his life. That sounds pretty final. But maybe it's just the end of his 'Glorious Purpose' story. There may be more stories to tell when it's time for Kang Dynasty. Maybe for the TVA too.
The way I took it is that Loki’s story had come to a satisfying end, and could stop there and he would be proud, but there might be a little more coming. Seems like Kang Wars and Secret Wars can’t happen if everything works out as he hoped by saving the multiverse. Watch out for Avenger Prime.
My prediction/head canon is Mobius 100% going back to the TVA. In that specific Universe that he's from, there's a version of him of every branch OF that universe (after his birth, growing up ect.). So even if he went to the branch that HE got clipped from, he'd still be a doppelganger. When that branch "regrew", the version of himself that branched with it is now there living the life that he originally was supposed to. He WAS that guy...once. But he's Mobius now. Too much "time" has passed. He'll be back to work for the new TVA.
In one of the Nordic legends, Odin is strung up on the tree of life (Yggdrasil) and stabbed in the side with his own spear. And though his time of suffering on the tree becomes stronger and better at being the all father and helping humanity. I strongly suspect that this ending was influenced in part by this legend. Especially since the legend was a big part in a very popular modern version of this story: American Gods.
The RUclips comments section being on the ball leaves me far too late to talk about the tree being Yggdrasil (which I assume was the writer's intention deliberately) but a fun allusion made, with Loki being "the God of stories" holding the universe together, is that the Norse creation myth has the universe being made from the body of one god (a connection I don't think the writers did intend!). The suggestion in the mythos is actually that it's destroyed/remade in a cycle and I think it's three brothers (or at least "blood brothers"), Odin, Vili and Loki (because Loki is brother, or at least "blood brother" whatever that means, to Odin in the mythos and not his son, adopted or not) who kill the god and make the universe out of him. So I'm grateful to Marvel for two things with their take on the Norse pantheon. 1. It's fun that they gave a backstory to the world tree. A concept from folk tales hundreds of years ago just now getting a backstory in modern folklaw is sort of lovely in my view! and 2. There was definitely a period where the far right really tried to make Norse Mythology "their thing" and it switching in popular imagination to being "a comic books thing" (even with all of the odd deviations from the original folklaw Marvel has made) is a mahoosive upgrade!! :P
yeah that's not it for loki.. he would need some type of replacement, possibly Adam Warlock or love from thor movies, maybe a variant of those characters.. but I'm pretty sure we'll see him again.. or they could just end it there. series is a 9 out of 10... but this episode the last one was perfection 10 out of 10 and I've never done that before... but I'm pretty sure marvels what if ? season two will dive into it..
I have a theory about this ending and what it means for the cosmic side of Marvel. We've already seen Eternity, the embodiment of all that is, the sentient essence of the cosmos itself but he has a sister, Infinity, the embodiment of time. Thor has already seen and spoken with Eternity and I suspect that Loki is now a servant of Infinity, as both those cosmic beings exist outside of time and space, the same way Loki now does, so I don't think he's alone, I think he has Infinity there, showing him how to hold together all of time and be her Custodian of the Multiverse because he's ascended to that kind of power level and gone from being a god to a cosmic entity that can control time now, basically 2nd only to Infinity herself. Also that variant of He Who Remains that Mobius mentioned on "Earth 616-adjacent" is Kang the Conqueror from Ant Man Quantumania, its a nice little reference.

Loki/Hiddleston literally & figuratively carrying the MCU at the moment 🙌🔥🍻
I wouldn't be surprised if Loki kicks off the next Avenger movies dealing with the dangerous He Who Remain variants.
But at the same time, this is a perfect retirement. It has been 12 years for Tom after all.
Pretty sure they rewrote the ending of this season/show to remove He Who Remains from the rest of the MCU.
Heartbreaking if it really is the last time we will see of Tom Hiddleston as Loki though ='[
they can always bring back a variant... lol
@@JokerInk-CustomBuilds- a variant would suck after this grand finale. I think this version will be back in either Kang Wars or Secret War.
Loki shedding a tear is because he hears Mobius. As he is holding EVERY branch of the multiverse. So he has access to all the stories within them.
I don't want to be alone."
But now he's alone for all time, keeping the timelines alive, so his friends can live.....
Yggdrasil confirmed!
He can see everything now he is time now. And he can enchant anything.
Loki is also the God of Stories in Mythology, but this does feel final. His arc seems pretty complete. Sylvie may be the only Loki type we have now.
they did sylvie dirty in the finale episode.
Loki's character development is so cool but tragic man
the antman showed a variant of he who remains who is evil so maybe the war will happen and Loki and avengers will team up if so i cant wait for thor and Loki to meet again
In elevator scene mobius said : We need Loki who remains. I think we got spoiled but didnt noticed.
Loki is the one holding the branches now... that last episode hit hard.
Loki: God of Stories. who ended his own story to make sure everybody else's can be told.
Oh that's good! Stealing this. Thaaaaaaaanks!
Loki: the mother of ALL redemption arcs.
I think the word you're looking for is bittersweet... Loki The God of all Timelines...
Loki, destined to be alone, forever burdened with glorious purpose.
And so the God of Stories sits at the heart of Yggdrasil, watching over the multiverse giving us all the chance to have a story that spands the ages
The god of stories, he who remained...so everyone else can have a chance to live :')
We should call Loki: The God of Time ⏲️
Bro loki is not God of time 👎
Bro you should call him Loki God of stories👍
just calling him loki is fine
@@aadilshekhi6049I’m genuinely curious I keep hearing people call him that is that a name from the comics or something? Like where did that come from “ the god of stories” it is cool though
@@Ryan707_-_in the comics when Loki becomes God of story he can do pretty much anything like rewriting the entire existence of multiverse
Loki finally found his glorious purpose 🥲
He basically became the Greek Titan Atlas - only that he has to weave the strands of Time for the ENTIRE MULTIVERSE for all of eternity. There's no way there will EVER be a greater arc in the entire MCU. That season hard-carried Phase 5 and made Loki my favourite show on Disney+, at least the one I also enjoyed.
Nice little reference/tie-in to the Kang in Quantum Mania (616 adjacent Realm)
LOL! i also thought that gooey thing that came out from the cocoa machine was their bodies 🤣
Great reaction Addie.
38:24 The "ruckus" that Mobius is referring to here is "Quantumania"
"A throne would suit you ill, brother." - Thor
Loki is now the new He Who Remains basically
38:30 he's referring to the Kang in Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania
"Most purpose is more burden than glory" 😢
Loki is multiverse 💥
6:40 she straight out said shut up 😂😂😂
Apparently "Pumpkins!" was the Eureka! of the 17th century
Lovely reaction, as usual. I think this is the end of the series. Loki is the sacrifice, like Atlas.
Loki took a page out of Thanos's book and said, "Fine. I'll do it myself..." :)
Miss minute is a total psychopath 7:34 she seemed like she was having the moment of her life there just utter enjoyment
Did an AI search on the meaning of Victor’s expression Pumpkins, here’s the text:
The exclamation “pumpkins” in the 1890’s would likely mean that something is really terrific or impressive. It was a slang term used to express admiration or excitement for something. For example, someone might say “pumpkins” after seeing a spectacular fireworks show or a stunning dress. This term originated in the 19th century U.S. and was also spelled as “punkins” or “pumpkings”.
Wait now I love this!! Let's bring "pumpkins" back hahaha
Its the Lokiverse
very sad ending for loki but also beautiful on how he shaped the universes
Marvel made Loki how he was in the comics. The God Of Stories. And sadly yes, Tom confirmed this is the end of Loki
Remember what he said to Odin at the end of Thor? Full circle
"Loki's lose." Even when he wins he lost his friends.
Addie is the best.
They can make billions if they make Loki the hero and he faces off against Kang.
He’s stuck there until Kang kills him and takes his throne.
The Trickster Who Remains
truly burdened with glorious purpose
It's all about second chance ❤
Loki made Ydrasil. that's quite poetic. also .... did MCU just solved the problem of Kang's actor replacement? Put Loki in charge.
LOKI NATION!!! 💚💚💚💚
Ask not if Loki is worthy of Mjolnir; ask whether Mjolnir is worthy to be wielded by Loki!
Is there a chance for more Star Trek reactions?
