@@EinzCrisby He’s saying Bale has played so many “American accent” type characters (probably his most famous is Batman) that people confuse that as his actual accent when in reality it’s not. I’ve had 2 friends say “man he’s got a good British accent” and I’m like uhh that’s his actual accent 😂

Matt Damon's performance at the end, when he is barely holding it together talking to Ken's son gets me every time.
Don't apologise for tears, Kamilla, I'm a grown man of 43 and I always shed a tear at this movie. We love good and genuine people. You honour their loss by remembering them.

Ken was a tank commander in WW2. Absolute legend and badass
They had some safety rules in 1960s like fire resistant outfit , but racing was dangerous , one driver a week
@@pete_lind In F1 15 drivers died in the 1950s, 14 in the 1960s, 12 in the 1970s, 4 in the 1980s and 2 in the 1990s. Crazy numbers if you combine them with sports car and motorcycle racing deaths.

@@crispy_338 My understanding is he was a mechanic and always referred to himself as 'a mechanic who sometimes drives cars'. I know that he was part of the tank development in the British army and was regarded as an important part of the mechanical development of british tanks. I have never heard that he was a tank commander (why would you put your best mechanic - literally - in a tank, as a tank commander?). I dont know where that has come from.

I'm English and Christian Bale's Birmingham accent is spot on.

Rush (2013) is great.
It tells the story of the rivalry between drivers Nikki Lauda and James Hunt.
It's one of my favorites.
Fun fact! Charlie, the guy at Shelby throwing firecrackers at girls, is still running a shop in LA, repairing and restoring Bentley and Rolls Royce’s
Next "Rush" from 2013 then.. Also based on true story. In Formula 1.
The ending hits hard and is unexpected if you are not familiar with Ken Miles. However, in real life he was not trapped in the car. He was ejected from it and died from the impact. I don't know why they felt the need to change that. In 1973 F1 racer Roger Williamson was killed when his car blew a tire causing it to crash and flip over. It caught fire and came to rest upside down with him trapped in it. Fellow drive David Purley actually pulled over and ran to the wreck and tried in vain to get his friend out. Williamson was conscious until he fell silent and stopped struggling to get out. Official cause of death was asphyxiation. It was all caught on film and is heartbreaking to watch. If you are interested in another true story inspired movie, I HIGHLY recommend "The World's Fastest Indian" starring Anthony Hopkins. It tells the story of New Zealander Burt Munro. He came to the US in 1967 to set a land speed record on a 1920s era motorcycle he built in his garage. Nobody has reacted to it yet and it's a great movie.

Oh, I can tell you that. First of all it was really more like they implied something different happened because we didn't actually see the wreck in the movie & instead infer it was different from what the one guy says to Shelby 6 months after it happened. But, the reason is that keeping it obviously true to reality would have entirely undermined the intended emotional response within the audience. It would do this in a number of ways, but the here are a couple of the important ones.
1) It allowed them to do that emotional call back to the conversation between Peter & the one guy after the first wreck.
2) If they kept the details true to the real life crash then they would have had to not show anything of the wreck because that would be way to horrifying for audiences to see happen on screen. Instead of the reflective type of tears the scene brings to people's eyes their emotions would be more shocked & appalled with the reflective sadness being an afterthought. But, not showing the crash would also undermine the emotions the movie generates

In qualifying, his Tyrrell teammate Jackie Stewart and Tyrrell's 3rd rider Chris Eamon refused to start the race out of respect for the deceased. because of this, Ken Tyrrell missed out on the constructors' Cup in the best car, but the head of the team accepted this with respect to the decision of the drivers, and did not invite other available drivers.
You're definitely not alone or weird for being sad. This movie gutted me, so it's comforting.
Cars aren't my thing and I wouldn't normally watch it but my best friend was a fangirl of Shelby, his Cobra, and the Ford GT40. She died from injuries in a car accident in 2018, the year before it came out. I know she would've loved this movie. Miss you always, girl. 😢

Don’t feel bad. I’ve seen this movie at least six or seven times and I still tear up. Ken was the real deal.
Fun Fact: $200 a day in 1960 is roughly $2,110.35 a day today, and they worked weekends trying to get this car ready.......so Ken went from basically minimum wage to $700,000 a year. And if i remember correctly, he actually worked on the team almost 3 years
One of my favourites. As a motorsport nerd, I'm so glad they didn't mess this story up (minus a couple of odd changes). They respected the people & the sport.

… I’m old school, I own this movie on Blu Ray, yet I have only watched it once. The writers did an amazing job paying tribute to Miles, his family, and Mile’s relationship with Shelby. The ending… I just can’t put it into words…
I am a veteran, serving as a combat medic overseas. I am all too familiar with death. This is why I found your channel & got hooked on your perspectives: to see the perspective of a civilian with a relatively similar background in medicine has value to me. But in war we expect loss, death is an obvious consequence of war, even when the loss is the best people of humanity, it’s just something we come to accept and brace ourselves for. Loss like Miles’ hits so much harder because it is so unexpected (despite the foreshadowing), and his loss hit a lot of people pretty hard at the time. I have a feeling Shelby never fully recovered from his untimely passing.

Emotional.. absolutely. Anyone who races cars will tell you; they don’t feel complete unless they are racing.,good actors show you that. When that stops you feel it .. a lot. It’s normal for those of us that raced and normal if you watch it.
You should also watch Rush (2013) Really great movie about two of the biggest rivals in Formula 1 during the 1970s!
Rush directed by Ron Howard is another really god race movie based on real events. Great reaction.
An amazing story that never should have interested me, yet the quality of the writing and acting draws in audiences into the powerful finale. And Great Art deserves Great Emotions. Powerful.
The writers did Leo Beebe dirty by most accounts (including Shelby`s), Leo was a humble man and got along well with Ken Miles. You can find his (Shelby`s) complete interview here on RUclips.
True. From most accounts, there was an executive at Ford that tried to sabotage Shelby, Miles and (to some extent) Lee Iacoca, and Beebe was the one who protected them. But the name of that person has never really been revealed, perhaps to keep him lost to anonymity. In any case, a movie script usually demands a 'villain' so they made it Beebe. But he was supposed to represent the whole top-heavy corporate nonsense, as Shelby pointed out with the red folder, and not a real villain as he sort of ended up being.
And yeah, the Mustang was originally supposed to be a 'secretary's car'. Ford Motors realized there was a new generation of young women making their own money, sort of a first for American society, at least apart from the 'Rosie the Riveter' days of World War II. They wanted to make a good looking, economical car for those young women, many of whom were secretaries, etc. Instead, the youth of America saw the potential of the car as a cheap entry point into street racing, and so the Mustang became what we know it today, perhaps a far greater success than Ford Motor ever envisaged.

Ken Miles didnt die as shown in this movie. The vehicle became airborne because of a lack of rear stabilisers - a problem that hadnt been encountered before because noone had driven cars of that design that fast before. It was a problem that persisted well into the 70s and if you watch race car footage of the era you will see a number of similar incidents. Ken Miles' son wasnt present when he was killed.
Miles was testing what Ford called the J car; it was intended to be the successor to the Mk II which had won at LeMans. it had a very new, untested structure and aerodynamics. the test was being done at Riverside International Raceway in California (a track long since turned into a shopping mall and housing development.) Riverside featured an extremely long front straightaway, and Miles died when the rear end of the J car lifted off the track at high speed. the car had been substantially lightened and didn't have any sort of real rollover structure. Ford would reengineer the car to add a full roll over structure and fix the aerodynamics and the Mark IV (which was the resulting car) would be very successful.
Miles was a particular type of racing driver - he had very fine driving skills, but in particular he also had engineering instincts. best kind of driver to have in a development program, and the Ford GT was very much a development program. the reason why Shelby wanted Miles so badly was he knew what kind of a engineer/driver Miles was.
I love going fast and watching movies like this. I had no idea of Ken's story. But like you, this movie breaks me. I cried more than usual because at the end all I could think of was my wife and little boy.
This movie wasn’t about two rival companies or cars. It’s a pure Ken Miles movie and I loved every second of it. Here to you, Ken.

One of the Kool Things I Smirk at is in the 1997 movie "Good Will Hunting" Matt Damon's Character wears a (Carol) Shelby Jacket....... Almost like a destiny thing.......
Two movies centered around Drag Racing that are True Stories are "Heart Like Wheel" (1983) and "Snake and Mongoose" (2013).....
This movie came up on reaction channels many times and I had never seen it before so I didn't watch their reactions. But the opportunity came up so I finally watched and loved it. So glad because now I can watch it with my favorite love Kamilla 😊

26:38 Ford has not changed... believe me, I know this from experience. Sidenote, Ken Miles originally just up the road from me in my home city. I never heard of this guy until I watched a short documentary about him. I was lucky to see this movie at the theatre. Touching story about one of the best race car drivers that passed away to soon. I wish they did a story about Grand Prix driver Jim Clark too.
I had meet both Jimmy Clark and Ken miles as well of dozens of other drivers of the era when i was a kid. My uncle had several different lemans race cars that after a few seasons were sold for vety little it was very sad when both Jimmy and Ken died but that era it was very common to loose 4-6 drivers a year as driver safety took a back seat to speed. If i remember right Ken died testing fords J car it looked like a gt40 and a bread van had a baby. I want to say there was a major structural failure that caused the accident that killed Ken. Jimmy also was probably killed due to something breaking on his lotus's suspension. I was an odd kid all my friends read comic books and mad magazine but i was hooked on road and track and hot rod mags of the 60s-70s 80s I got my first car at 13 and immediately set it up for road racing my 62 corvair spent almost every night sliding around the so california mountain roads. Sadley the days Carol and Ken and Jimmy enjoyed are long gone no longer can you buy a clapped out MG and drive it to willow springs and race other clapped out MGs its big money now.
I get super emotional watching movies. Feel everything. A blessing, but sometimes a curse. Much enjoyed watching your reaction.

I do get emotional too and have always been that way because of a brain injury before birth. It also affected my coordination but I a very good driver in my younger days. As others have written, it’s ok to have tears. You’re such a good person and we love you for it.

I love that movie..... and "Snake and Mongoose".... Both are True Stories....

I knew this story, before I watched the movie. And I still get chocked up at the end, every time I watch.
Abaolutely fantastic movie. Im glad they really put the legend of Ken Miles into the spotlight. Good watch any time of the year.

It's a very good drama, that pull us in that universe.
I guess she's only seen Christian Bale on just Batman or American Psycho so it makes sense that she's unaware the Bale is actually Welsh. To be fair, there used to be a time back in the day, that people didn't know he was English due to a mix of him working on lots of US productions and also that he always did interviews differently, if he was in the UK he would talk in his native accent and when doing interviews for US tv/market he would speak in American accent.
Ken Miles' story wasn't widely known until this film told the story. Your reaction is such a great tribute to this amazing driver and it was just so incredible to watch. YES this movie broke me when I saw it the first time, particularly over his son and wife, and your reaction brought it all back but in a very endearing tribute kind of way. I love you and your channel, this was so special. Thank you for doing this.

I am the same. I cried when I watched it in the theater. I had already seen the documentary. But I was remembering as the movie progressed.
As a racing fan, especially vintage/classic, I was so excited for this release & although there were a few liberties, it is a fantastic film. A good story will hit you so you're not alone in your feelings...we felt it too, & true events are more emotional than fiction because they really happened. I've never been fortunate enough to be able to race but I've been sim-racing for a few years now. My wife bought me a setup so that I can at least still dream...there's nothing like the raw horsepower of a sports car or muscle car...nothing. (Since you did this one, I must suggest two more outstanding race films; "LeMans" & "Rush". Both are exceptionally good.) I'm looking for a Fiat 124 Spider or an older Miata right now to have fun with, so best of luck getting one Kamilla!!--Blessings from across the Pond!
Im 40yo crippled combat vet, and i got teary eyed the forst few times i watched this.
after watching this movie.. i looked outside my window and stared at my project sn95 mustang i had since high school and felt so cool to have a piece of history i can drive.. of course everyone has a piece of history, but most dont get to work on them..
Bruce McLaren, the driver who won Le Mans, will die 4 years later while testing a new car for the can am racing series. at a speed of 273 km/ h, the car's rear wing was torn off and it became uncontrollable.Bruce crashed into a barrier and was thrown out of the car, he died from hitting the ground.
@20:50 Ken was correct. Yes, women think the 1965 Mustang is pretty, but the fact is the suspension and steering components were very weak. It is a better car with a modern upgraded front end.
Maybe but in 1964 when the Ford Mustang came out is was the top selling automobile in the US.
Ford estimated it would sale 200k in it's first year of production and 20k in the first 3 months.
Sales of the 64 Mustang surpased 100k in the first 3 months and sold over 300k in its first year and surpass more than a million in the first 18 months.
They must have been doing something right with it.
@@nataliestclair6176 , When the Ford Escort came out it was the top selling car. How many are on the road today? That thing would burn to the ground when nothing was wrong with it. I know. A friend had one that she drove every day. One morning it just caught on fire for no reason and it was gone.
Best selling doesn't always mean best quality.
@@phil-1115 first of all the Ford Escort came out in 1981 and it was not the top selling car in 81, the Olds Cutless was, but I am nit picking and yes the next year in 82 the Ford Escort compact was the top selling car, but there was a reason
The US was still suffering form the Carter years and in a recession and it had yet to feel the relief of Regans economic plan aka Reganomics and there was still a gas shortage at the pumps and gas prices were still at an all time high. Of course there really was not a shortage of oil, just that Opec was withholding oil and charging a lot for what they were releasing and we recently had stopped getting oil from Iran due to the embargoes that the US and UN placed on Iran after the Iraianian Hostage crisis.
The Ford Escort was a 4 cyl and got good gas mileage and a US built gasoline efficient automobile so people bought it for that, not for performance, but it was a good reliable car.
As for it catching fire, and glad the girl was not the car at the time, there was never an issue with the Ford Escort just going up in fire. It was most likely just her car. Happens to other cars as well but that does not mean it is a huge wide spread issue.
There was never a major recall on the Ford Escort relating to fire issues. Of course there were recall on some for other issues, but what automobile has never had recalls for one thing or another. I do know there was a recall on the 84 Escort related to an oil leak issue that would drip oil on the exhaust manifold and had a potential to cause a fire, but only like 200k were recalled and no one reported a fire happening.
My friend and an engine in her car, which was a Honda Accord, that just caught fire. But she had the engine running while she was asleep on the car. Things sometimes just happen.
Yeah we don't see many 81 Ford Escorts on the road or for sale today, but well...its a 81 Escort and not a 64 Ford Mustang, which today the average price, and that's average and we know it's all based on condition etc, is about 30k while they have topped out at about 90k. Don't think anyone is going to buy a Escort for 30k
The 64 Ford Mustang was a good car and had good performance and was reasonably priced as well.
The comments in the movie from Ken Miles aboit the Mustang are nit accurate anyway, he never said a thing and never said much about the Mustang in general and never said he preferred the Chev Chevelle. The movie just wanted to show a conflict between Ken Miles and Ford. In truth Miles had no problem with Ford at all. He was angry about not given the win at Le Mans though, much more angrier than the movie showed. But he was not mad at Ford or Leo Beebe, who he actually got along with and Beebe respected Miles as a driver. Miles was mad at the rule that denied him 1st place.
Beebe was not the corporate villian as portrayed on the movie, he was very supportive of Shelby and the Ford Racing team and wanted them win. His job was on the line if they didn't win, so no way was he going to not let their best driver, Ken Miles race.
The controversial finish at Le Mans is still unclear who orchestrated it. Beebe took the backlash over it, and there was lots of backlash, but it was never known if it was his idea or Ford's. In a car and driver magazine interview with Beebe years after he was retired, the reporter asked him that question, but Beebe didn't answer, instead he pulled a piece of folded paper from his wallet and showed it. It was a note Ford gave him during the Le Mans race and it read, You better win and you better make me look good. So maybe he did orchestrate the finish to keep his job.

One of my favorite movies (Ford V Ferrari). Motor Racing is dangerous no matter how they try to make motor racing safe but all respect for all racing drivers the moment they get in that racing car there lives is at stake. Love your reaction Kamilla especially the end I had a lump in my throat that crash of Mr. Miles that end is always emotional
I also recommend The Art of Racing in the Rain. It’s not just about racing.
Also Christian Bale is welsh and Ken Miles was also Welsh but raised in the Cotswolds. This meant that the accent wasn't to difficult to achieve for him :)

If you haven't watched Secretariat, it is a total must 5 out of 5 Stars! Ford v Ferrari for me also 5 out of 5. One of the best racing films I've ever seen. You are soooo lovely! Your heart is full of compassion for every character you come to know, you cheer for good ones and rage against the bad. I always know what I'm going to get from you when I watch your reactions....pure true heartfelt emotion. Nothing wrong with that, not one bit.❤
I wish Carroll Shelby said his famous quote, “My name is Carroll Shelby and performance is my business.” For some reason they made him say “I build race cars.” Such a missed opportunity!
Yeah, this one always gets me. I grew up with Carroll Shelby as one of my heros. I've know about Ken Miles since I was kid, I grew up in the 90's not the 60's but just all the history there with Ford and Shelby and my family all being Ford people, to me all those guys are legendary.

This movie was quite a nice surprise for me... I've never been interested in F1 (and I'm still not), but this movie really knows how to get you into the feelings. There's a reason why James Mangold has became one of my favourite directors (even though he not always makes a good movie * Couf, couf * Indiana Jones 5 * couf, couf *) and that reason is how well he portraits the characters in his movies, there's always something engaging about'em....
Now you have to watch Rush, another fantastic racing movie. Its stars Daniel Bruhl as Nikki Lauda and Chris Hemsworth (Thor) as James Hunt, arch rivals in F1 racing in 1970.

Lee Iacocca was one of the greatest car executives in history. He was behind Fords racing and then he left Ford and was the CEO if Chrysler.
Fun Fact: In America the movie is called Ford v Ferrari but in Europe it's called Le Mans '66. It's strange to think they would name it differently elsewhere in the world
You should watch the movie Grand Prix with James Garner from the 60's. It was a pioneering movie in the genre. People think that Formula 1 racing is dangerous today but I watched racing in the 60's and it was downright deadly then with many drivers losing their lives every year. I did get to see Carrol Shelby at a Trans Am race at Lime Rock raceway in the late 60's. For a young kid like myself who loved racing it was a real highlight.
So glad you enjoyed the film! I got my first taste of the story be reading the book Go like Hell: Ford, Ferrari, and their battle for Speed and Glory at Le Mans by A.J. Baime.
Easiest and cheapest way to get into racing, is vintage formula V. You can get into a car, spares, and a trailer for about 5k USD. Also the most competitive as all cars must run the same engine, carburetor, tires, suspension and so on.
This movie is such masterpiece
at start of desert race at Willow Springs, the other drivers named are Dan Gurney & Phil Hill, among others..... *THOSE ARE THE ABSOLUTE BEST DRIVERS & most notable names at the time......* like saying playing against Mahomes, Rogers, & other greats if it was football...... or playing against Larry Bird, Magic, & Jordan in a basketball game.

Porsche had an extremely small niche presence in the US in the 1960's. 94% of cars on the road were American manufactured at that time.
You do not have to be feel bad for having feelings. Nothiing wrong with that, I'm 62 years old and still cry for some movies 😢
Don't worry. We all cried at that point in the movie. Remember, this is a movie. They get a lot of it correct and they get a lot of it wrong. Watch the Carroll Shelby documentary and he tells a different story.

Whether during a race, Qualifikation, Training or even development, Motorsport was, is and will ever be dangerous.
But the passion for it of all those people who Involved are bigger than the fear and that's the great faccination!
