I was at that same show, and yes, they blew Crue right out of the building. Not even five months later Aerosmith played Reunion on the 'Done With Mirrors' tour with Y&T opening. Same result. I liked both Motley Crue & Aerosmith well enough back then, but the only reason I attended both shows was because of Y&T.

Been to a lot of shows Didn't know a lot about Y&T ended up being one of the top 2 or 3 live bands I have seen. Sound, energy, every member GREAT at what they played, Timing perfect. Band was having fun crowd was having fun. Small theatre, general admission ended up making my way third or 4th row SO much fun. Actually I think it was toss up between this show, Lita ford 2nd row, Poison at The country club in Reseda about a year before Look what the cat drug in was released. (That record was due out 8 months or so before it actually was released). and Poison/Ratt. At Ventura fair grouds. Those 4 shows were my the top 4. Wasp opening for Krokus was cool too, (my first show.. GNR ( Before live like a suicide) saw them in Bam magazine but had no clue what they sounded like, opened for Nugent was cool Nugent kicks ass. Keel, Right to Rock tour. Great times back then Sorry if anyone actually read this whole freakin thing I JUST COULDNT STOP LOL

Cool to see all these comments praising my cousin Leonard Haze. I never met him but my dad's uncle Billy was Leonard's dad. He told me about him coming over and playing his drum set when Haze was a little kid. Absolutely shredded his kit at 12 years old. My dad still talks about it at 70 years old, dad was 15 at the time. I've seen pics of Y&T as little kids in suits with a "Yesterday And Today" banner behind them.

Years later I got to know Leonard a little bit and I was happy to see how friendly he was. He said he remembered me from HS. I'm not sure if he really did but it was a nice thing to say. When I found out how sick Leonard was it made me very sad. He was very brave to keep going when he could have given up.

Underrated my ass. It’s a shame some of you think stating that horseshit somehow shows how much you loved them, but it makes you look foolish. There was nothing about them that was underrated. Musicians damn sure knew they were kings. Haze had, hands down, the best right foot in the biz. Dave’s voice, tonal quality and guitar tone are completely unique. Phil’s writing and bass playing was perfectly meshed and then Joey’s rhythm playing was thunderous, but never overdone. When Ronny Montrose speaks highly of you, you know you’re an axe master. They were a Band in the truest sense and anything, but underrated.

Being a huge fan of Y&T, when I was a Junior in high school, a buddy and I rode our motorcycles from the Bay Area to L.A. to see them play and the opener was Metallica, must have been '82. I traded lots of mix cassettes with Lars and his friend (forget his name) when I lived in Hayward and they had just moved to El Cerrito in the Bay Area. I always included Y&T in my tapes and he mentioned that they got a lot of "inspiration" from Y&T. If you listen, Mean Streak was the basis for that chromatic beginning of Master of Puppets and Rescue Me influences the beginning of Fade to Black. Both Lars and James were fans and they opened for them a few times, saw them at Day on the Green together and also Sac Memorial around New Year's in '85. Both great, great bands and still going strong!

Y&T is the typical band that never made it bigger in the 80s because they didnt have a cocky singer or didnt have a sexualized look, something that was hugely exploited by record companies in that decade, the same happened with WASP, Dokken, Quiet Riot and all those bands that were demolished by Boy bands that rose later like Bon Jovi, Europe, Poison, Warrant, Whitesnake, etc...commercially the rocking boy bands had a bigger fan base because of all the girls that ran after them. That was a smashing visual trick that record companies discovered: ' Lets use a pretty singer singing a pop ballad'. The dollars were served on the table.
