Yes those are some of the funniest episodes where when they're all talking about that he makes it ever so clear that it will be no fighting over The Ponderosa🐎❤️
I love the little nuances in body and facial language, these are so telling. And between Father, Ben, Adam loving brother, and finally Joeseph, what a beautiful family, an example of what should be a family.
Melinda's mom was a total jerk. She was a control freak manipulating and controlling her daughter like she did. Adam could see how much of a liar the mom was. I felt sorry for Melinda being forced by her mom into a marriage she didn't want. Of course, I think Melinda has a screw loose. Joe is really cute! Adam is hot, too. This was a great episode.
That mother is a completely reprehensible character. She has the gall to tell that poor husband of hers that he's never faced up to reality, whilst she's trying to realise her failed fantasies through a web of lies. It was excellent casting though. The face, the voice suited the role well.
@@michaelbookmiller1156 they either realize it could never be possible or die. And last I checked, 11 women in the entire series died from the Cartwright curse.
Oh Adam, the look 👀 he’s giving the mother as she’s describing their lifestyle in Baltimore says, lady from Baltimore, I’m aware of what you’re up to. 😅😅😅
How can Joe be in love with her so deeply after only a few days? This happens a lot on Bonanza. They all fall in love almost right away. The daughter was beautiful but the mother was evil. The Cartwrights are always compassionate, definitely a force for good.
It was in the script... no time to slowly fall in love. Joe is supposed to be the young one, I remember as a teen I was quick and dramatic about falling in love, too.
Movies aren’t made as well today. Oscars and Academy awards are awarded on favoritism. There’s no way movies and actors chosen are better than what wasn’t chosen.
I noticed that too! From the first shot where we see three guys in profile who don't say a word, to the close up of Ben's face when he's talking about love to the woman on the staircase.
I love every epis...all is so interesting..Adam is a stage Actor and singer, the father is excellent too..Joe..falls in love too easily...Adam is like Bond
I wondered how the falsehood would be revealed, but I never dreamed of Horace showing up - and looking good, too. As always, Ben turns the bitterness to forgiveness. I agree with the witty remark of the person below, who points out that little Joe would fall in love with a lamp post if you put a wig on it! In how many of these episodes is he always falling in love! And he gets saved all the time! Wonderful stuff.
It must be difficult to try and get married when you're rich. You don't know if the person wants you or your money. Guess that's why rich marries rich.
If you examine the history of the wealthiest families in the world you will find they are mostly related in some way and the obvious intent is to keep money and power in the family.
Oh, I love this episode of Bonanza from January of '62 (Season 3). The lesson of The Lady from Baltimore shows that one has to be content with oneself and not force their dreams/desires onto others to please them, like the Mercedes McCambridge character. The disappointment on daughter, Melinda's, face told the story. Yes, she was young and beautiful (thank you, Audrey Dalton), but she didn't really love Little Joe. Anyway, I thought the show was better with four Cartwrights. When Adam (Pernell Roberts) left in '65, it was down to three. Not even ranch hand Candy (David Canary) could save the show. Just wasn't the same.
@@shirleymonroe1103I totally agree, once Adam left I stopped watching Bonanza all together, but thank goodness I 've purchased seasons 1-6 due to Adam being on the show
What I think helps in watching this show is that everytime one experiences something extremely difficult to deal with in the next episode their completely over it. Kind of a lesson in life that whatever hard times one may face just to know that soon it will be behind you. I think that helps.
Excellent episode in various domains, notably from a psychological standpoint. Mercedes McCambridge delivers a superlative performance as the mother digging gold for her daughter, so the latter will not suffer the poverty she has experienced as a result of her husband's poor professional record. very well handled, emotionally, with Adam and Ben in astounding form. Thank you for sharing
When the women discover that Adam doesn't really care for them, they always steal a kiss from him, then he gets in trouble for it. And why do so many women feel like they have to lie, and put on airs for the Cartwrights? The Cartwrights are very well to do for sure, but they don't carry themselves as highfalutin people. All of that putting on is just so silly.
Someone may need to tell this lady that if one of the boys marry, they don't just get the house a nice little cottage would be built preferably with a nice porch and a little room on the side 😂 Mam if you choose Adam you could get the chance of a nice 2 story built by his hands and hopefully he doesn't fall and hurt himself. But under no circumstance do you get to take over the main house, clearly she hasn't watched enough episodes🙄 😂
Infatuation is not love young Joseph. But that's not to say that it can't blossom into love because it often does, but the feeling has to be mutual for things to work out...
There is an earlier post someone claimed Joe would fall in love with a lamp post. Are there that many people who don't pay attention to anything about the Cartwright's. Little Joe is like a self proclaimed Casanova. He loves the women for sure but he isn't looking for marriage. He enjoys his youth to much
40:28 That's Dr. Alfred Bellows (Hayden Rorke) from I Dream Of Jeanie? I absolutely love that show! 💙I'm only in my 30's and growing up with my grandparents, I feel in love with these shows.
I ain't even feeling sorry for lil Joe,he goes behind anything in a skirt, ready to give away the pondaroza, and fight his big bro for a girl and her witch of a mother, talking bout he in love! He jokey!😁😁😁😁
A lot of that went on in Westerns from the 50s and 60s. If any of the major characters became romantically involved, then it was practically a death sentence for the woman.
Go figure: Ben Cartwright married 3 times and widowed 3 times with 3 sons all having different mothers and they all live together in one big house and all the sons are not married. Lol. I loved this show and watched it growing up! Great storylines with outstanding guest stars as many interesting characters.😀
Another superb episode. Mercedes McCambridge presented intense and engaging energy to her role. Hayden Rorke also was brilliant here. Audrey Dalton was great, too. Lorne Greene in this episode seemed somewhat awkward in his role. His character here needed more direction and maybe some script tweaks to get it right--again, tight production schedule. The closeups of the husband and wife in their emotional meeting was powerful drama; cinematic in scope. High drama in this episode, love it.
Can’t blame a mother for trying.. but it’s too bad they didn’t just come in honestly, being themselves. One thing about the Cartwright boys that you can almost always count on, is one of them will fall for the beautiful girl, no matter her background, so long as she’s a good honest woman. 😂
Audrey Dalton is the long lost twin of Nicole Tom. Look her up. I remember thinking this first time I saw this episode as an "adult". Seriously twins separated by decades! Beautiful ladies!

Isn’t Mercedes McCambridge wonderful? 29:38 The LUST on her face as she strolls around drooling over the Ponderosa. You can almost hear her speaking aloud: “What I won’t do when I get control of this place!” Fabulous actress. Pretty woman, too.
I agree. If I remember correctly, she was blackballed from Hollywood because she admitted she was an alcoholic. I suspect there was much more to it than that. Look at how many drunks and addicts there are in Hollywood now.

Excellent ending. Great talk by Ben. Why they love her is a mystery but they do. Unfortunately, an unresolved flaw. 28:59 Adam tells Ben that she doesn't love Joe, but then we hear nothing more of it. Why does Adam run away? We never see Ben talk to Joe. That's completely out of character. Did they cut a scene that didn't work? Probably should have had Adam talk about a feeling but not having evidence, so that it just wasn't enough to talk to Joe about.
Only Little Joe got married. Right after Dan Blocker died. She died of course! I believe the episode had been written for Hoss and he was to remain married.

Level headed Adam the one & only, Adam is the true heir too the Ponderosa hands down.
Ben has already made it clear that the P belongs to all three sons.

It's amazing how many of Ben's old friends were trying to trick or use him

I absolutely love Adam Cartwright.
So do I.
Adam was the weak link on and off the screen...by far.
He is remembered for Bonanza. He left. He liked the theater and his series Trapper John MD. He thought he was better than his co-stars.
Adam was not a fool. He saw that Melinda's mother was an opportunist.

There is no word "epis".
Episode (επεισοδιο) as you can see is a greek word.
That was Pernell on the horse at 5:42. Impressive!
Stunt double.
