    Thank you for the great video which summarizes the essentials of what we need to know to start on KDP ADs. I am sure there is more to find out that cannot be covered in a 20 minutes video, but this video should be of great help for anyone starting.
    I am new to this KDP business and published my first 2 books on October 30th, I have been running ads for almost 2 months and I came to the same exact conclusions: they definitively help to start organic sales. Cheers.

      Paul, Is it a decent performance 80 sales out of 45 titles in the first 45 days? A couple of books sold 10 copies each, of which 50% were organics sales. I sold copies of 29 titles. Mostly lined pages interiors and a few cooking journals. Although it was through Christmas, which obviously helped the sale significantly.

    Hi Paul, thank you again for all your helpful videos. There is one thing in regard to the ACOS data that I discovered after my first few weeks of using KDP ads. The ACOS data given in the real-time campaigns are not including VAT (for those of us located in countries where amazon charges us VAT on our advertising invoices). I'm located in the Uk so that applies here. I only realized this once I received my invoices and did the maths. This makes a significant difference to whether we are in profit, breaking even, or making a loss. Amazon ad campaigns do not make this clear in real-time so it's easy to be misled into thinking that if your displayed ACOS is equal to or less than your royalty that you are either breaking even or in profit accordingly. However, the true ACOS may need to have VAT added to get the real figure. For example, if your royalty after printing cost is 29% of the sale price then ACOS will need to be 24.16% or less to be in profit in order to accommodate 20% VAT due on the advertising cost. Ultimately it's the true cost of advertising that counts in terms of being in profit or not so it's very important to take this actual final advertising cost into account as per the final invoiced amount of advertising and not the real-time campaign ACOS. I rang amazon to confirm all this just in case I had got my maths wrong and they did confirm that VAT is not included in the ACOS in real-time and only added in the invoice. They said it was a very valid point and would feed it back to the development team and hopefully ACOS with and without VAT included will be displayed in future development updates to the campaign user interface to avoid confusion. Your thoughts on this would be appreciated. thanks.

    • @paulmarles
      @paulmarles  3 года назад

      In countries where VAT is applied that would be the case. I guess you could also take into account those that are registered for VAT and could claim back the VAT.

    • @justsayin644
      @justsayin644 3 года назад

      @@paulmarles As far as I'm aware even if someone is registered for VAT it doesn't apply to Amazon royalties because the VAT has already been paid by Amazon.

    At 17:24 you talk about long term strategy. How would you define long-term? 1 month, 2 months, 6 months? I understand that at the end of the day a long-term strategy depends on the nature of the business/goals/objectives/etc.
    But, in a ball park, for a beginner, could you narrow it down?

    How long do you leave your ads going before you take them down? And how much do you spend for those ads? Also how long will a low content book sales go on after you do the break even ad approach?

    • @paulmarles
      @paulmarles  3 года назад

      I stop them if I am losing money and can't get the ACOS down. If they are profitable I keep them running until I can get a good organic ranking. There is no particular amount I spend on ads. It all depends on many factors. I don't have a fixed budget. If you get a good organic ranking and it stays there after running ads there is a good chance it will stay there.

    Another question I have is whether it's worthwhile starting a campaign as soon as your book goes live? I tend to start campaigns as soon as the Look inside feature appears which takes a couple of days usually but I don't know - maybe it is too soon.

    • @paulmarles
      @paulmarles  4 года назад +6

      I would wait until at least the look inside appears. Personally I would leave it for a minimum of a month for Amazon to index your keywords and for Amazon’s algorithm to see where your book sits in the grand scheme of things in terms of keywords. I gave books that all too often do nothing for two to three months then suddenly start to rank. That’s when I would prefer to do ads. But it’s a personal decision. I don’t have any scientific based rules.

    Paul - I am running ads for a book for the first time. I am getting a consistent click-through rate of between 6-10% - but only a few sales - I adjusted my look inside with an email to Amazon so those clicking through could really see what they are getting I have no reviews yet - and think this is what is limiting my sales - your opinions, please?

      That's a good click through rate but you haven't given me the actual number of impressions so impossible to tell how many clicks you've actually had. If customers aren't buying after looking at the book then they don't like some aspect of the book - could be interior, price, description.

    PAUL - I followed your guidance and have already sold almost $90 worth of low content books using Amazon Ads!! (yay!) BUT I HAVE AN ISSUE!! how do I find my Amazon Ad royalties? How often will I be paid out? Is it the same as KDP (no ads)?

      How are your sells going? Are the ads working for still?

      @@kan4932 It all depends on how you have configured your KDP, I do not invest much in the "targets" or "budget" -

      I've had more success with manual targeting.

    Hi Paul, Thanks for your videos, they are very informative.
    However, I do have a question, what can someone publishing LCB from outside the US do to get visibility on Amazon.com? At present the few sales I have had are mainly from within Europe, I have been unable to generate sales on Amazon.com. Thanks

      There is nothing you can do except wait. They will be listed in the US and it will depend on whether your book’s appeal to the US market.

      @@paulmarles Thanks for the reply.
      So far I seem to be ing doing well for a newbie, two and half months into my LCB journey and estimated royalty for the month of May 2020 is $1,038.89
      with the bulk of the sales (73%) coming from the UK. All organic sales no Ads as yet.
      Maybe very soon I'd be able to break into the US market space and replicate the same result there too.
      Thanks for the tips you keep reeling out on your channel.

    I am running auto ads on all my newly published books at $.30 bid but they are barely getting impressions. What would you suggest I do?

    • @paulmarles
      @paulmarles  3 года назад +1

      Usually one of two reasons. Either people aren’t searching much for the books you’ve created or the niche is so big and competitive that the bid price is too low. Also, you’ve got to give the ad time. Impressions don’t usually start flooding in.

    How am I able to see how much I've spent on ads? I can't seem to see this information in reports.

    Does anyone know if you can export all your books ASIN and titles into a spreadsheet from KDP easily.

    I didn't understand the campaign earnings process, If you would explain it on a board or wrote down, it would have been better
