Yes, the game just released, so obviously its peak will most likely stay here, but we'll have to see how they continue to support the game moving forward. Personally, I'm optimistic, as opposed to Battlefield 2042, which has kind of been left in the dust in terms of players and meaningful content

Idk why PC games dont give us the options to lower the textures soo much or compress. I'll always bring this example: Fallout 4 and Skyrim have they high-res textures as free DLC, you can save disk space by just disabling the DLC and downloading only the basic lowres textures and I think fortnite tried the same thing last year. Why don't all games do this? Seems like a relatively easy solution. No need to pack 4k textures for everyone, they should be optional. More games need to have Ultra textures (and uncompressed audio) as free DLC so you can choose to download them separately. Also, most games could probably get away with doing half-res normal maps to increase performance. But this requires management actually caring about the players and not wanting them to continue churning out (money making) content. They should release games with low res textures for 1080p and a 4k texture pack for those that want it. They should seriously start making stuff like 4k textures, language files and cutscenes optional downloads. It's completely dumb to fill up disc space with crap you won't use if you play on 1080p or 1440p and only use one language I will never stop being impressed with what the original Legend of Zelda, LoZ:OoT, and resident evil 2 (N64 port) managed to accomplish in 128kB, 32MB, and 64MB respectively. None were the best graphics of their generations, but were vast and engaging games in incredibly small packages.

I played the playtests and it's phenomenal. Yet to purchase the early access release but I can't wait to play it again. My pc is below average at best and although my monitor is only 60 hz, I pulled up the fps counter uncapped and I was getting peaks of 240 fps and a smooth 110 fps in crowded areas, like the flood barrier on one map, over 70 people on each team were there, 140 players constant gunfire and explosions and I was at over 100 fps on a below average rig. That's nothing to scoff at, and the gameplay is unrivalled. Its cheap price point, accessible yet challenging gameplay and its content rich style is insane for just below 20 quid. They could've charged up the ass for this amazing game and people would flock to it in droves, but for the price it is, at such a low point of entry for system requirements it's a true marvel in modern gaming. And the community is amazing. I've come across 2 bad apples in my 30 hours play time and that's exclusively playing the 254 lobbies all at max capacity. That's astonishing. To have everyone band together to just get immersed in a game and most of all have fun above anything else is truly the best gaming experience I've had in my life. All that so far for absolutely no money on the free pre launch playtests. Safe to say I'm buying this when I get home to my pc after this holiday cause I want to play this again so badly

Among its many other positives, Battlebit is a solid pushback against the decade long trend of shooters becoming overloaded with visual clutter. IMO the simplistic art style is good for the gameplay focus Battlebit has. I like crazy high spec graphics as much as anyone, but more in single player games or something slower paced, where you can actually enjoy it instead of feeling like it's in the way. I don't feel like I'm handicapping myself by running the game on Ultra, unlike many other FPS where having your graphics as low as possible gives a tangible competitive advantage.

I've wanted VR devs to go this direction since the dawn of time. Low detail, tons and tons of features and mechanics and massive maps with tons of players and destruction. Everything big studios do is moving towards tiny and beautiful games at 30fps rather than huge and feature rich at 120fps smooth as silk. There's more than one way to make an amazing game. Graphics really don't matter... Minecraft is beautiful once you've played it for a while.. Most people's brains are going to adapt to the graphics presented.
Around the early 2000s we had Operation Flashpoint with huge maps and vehicles and soldiers and everything.. We had Battlefield 1942, smaller maps but HUGE stuff compared to what we normally see.. We had Everquest and my favorite, Starsiege Tribes.. Huge scale games seemed to be the future.. Then higher detail assets became more and more of a thing, which meant very large maps become extremely expensive to make, and all of a sudden games started shrinking again around 2006. Now they're smaller than ever, but gorgeous.. Who cares.
Make games ugly again! Use those processor cycles on something other than sparkly bits.

I dont think its just that not focussing on graphics gives more time for the other aspects of the game; not like the big studios cant hire 3 developers to work on those other aspects. Its that fancy graphics actively get in the way of the gameplay of FPS style games, and especially large scale battlefield type games. Graphics get in the way of fluidity, consistent mechanics (why cant my vehicle drive here; why does this block my aim? why cant I climb that surface?), visibility... you know the kind of stuff that makes for satisfying game mechanics. Ive long been of the opinion that UT99 was the peak of fps gaming and its all been downhill since then; but this is the first game since that has me willing to reconsider that opinion.
Personally what id like to see these guys take on next is a less realism focussed version of a game like this; more aimed at motion, rocket jumps, jetpacks, dodging, unrealistically OP melee weapons that reward pulling off said fluid motion; and with heavily nerfed sniping and ranged weapons in general (or powerful ranged weapons being mostly slow and counterable/dodgeable). Like the classic UT/quake games; I think such a less realistic game mechanic that rewards superior movement is a lot more fun than a game dynamic that mostly just rewards the ability to land the fastest headshots. The scope glint is a nice touch though I have to say.

I largely agree with everything you said here. I think you can sum up BattleBit by stating: it's just fun to pick up and play. There's no time needed to figure out the stupid quirks of how to optimize the game; there's no time spent figuring out the gimmicky mechanics, the overpowered (typically paid for) features, the cheesy glitches, etc. Just download and play, like how games were from the ~2010-2016 era of online gaming
I haven't felt genuinely hooked on a game in a long long time (maybe a bit with Insurgency Sandstorm when it first came out) but this seems to really be doing it for me. Hopefully the Battlefield series recognizes this is what we actually want, not the pile of dogshit that was 2042

BattleBit really had made it clear to me how much gaming itself has come to sort of mirror so much else in modern existence - a veneer of excessively shiny graphics, over absolutely uninspired mechanics, which when mixed with monetization schemes, sucks all the joy out of gaming. And I dunno about all of you but I’m so sick of games that make my pc run like a furnace but feel utterly dead beneath the shiny veneer.

I 100% agree with your video, great points. However, it is sad and/or ironic that this is EXACTLY what studios did "back in the day". The formula is not revolutionary in any way, it's just "forgotten" and ignored by immense corporate greed. Also, LMAO at that Gamerant article, talk about bootlickers for EA.
All that aside, Battlebit is an awesome game. I bought the DLC just to support them even more. Give gamers a genuinely good game and the popularity and money will come, as deserved.

Cooperate greed is the exact reason for specialists/hero type character/class selection. It's so they can sell you more characters. This is how I wanted to see Battlefield

  • @FireWalkMusic
    @FireWalkMusic Год назад +1

Battlefield used to have a unique, successful and time proven formula. Then they decided to scrap all that with battlefield 2042, and instead copy elements from various other games, including hero shooters. They scrapped the class system and went with operators instead.
The game even launched without a scoreboard, and when they finally decided to upgrade the squad management system, it was lacking at best, and some would even call it "woke" as you can't even kick players to make room for friends in the squad etc. The game lacked tons of traditional quality of life features that had always been in battlefield games previously. Minimal destruction, few weapons and gadgets, few and poorly designed maps, lacking XP system, nerfed movement system etc, and tons of bugs. You couldn't even dive under water anymore, and there are no naval units.
Movement mechanics for vehicles was also severely dumbed down, so there's no skill required to master them anymore, meaning that there's no reward associated with mastering them either.
Instead of focusing on adding new content to the game, they instead had to spend most of their time trying to "fix" it by reintroducing what they call "battlefield legacy features" like a scoreboard, classes etc, as well as trying to fix the poorly designed original maps.
Then comes battlebit: A low poly game with lego-like graphics, and it mops the floor with battlefield 2042...
    Why?
Because they gave the fans exactly what they wanted, but didn't get from battlefield 2042. They gave them that time proven battlefield experience. It has tons of features, none of the "woke" elements that only degrades the gaming experience ( like having no scoreboard to prevent anyone's feelings from being hurt, unable to kick people from squads etc).
Battlefield 2042 still don't even have a server browser for the main game mode, and you can only play with 4 friends in a squad, less than in previous games. Battlebit has surely capitalized on the vacuum left by battleifled 2042's failure to please long time fans.
Battlebit has basically implemented everything that was great from that time proven battlefield formula, while Dice has done the exact opposite, trying to reinvent the wheel and ending up with a square wheel that just doesn't work, making most of their player base run away and straight into the arms of battlebit instead.

7:45 They tried to address what players actually wanted through portal mode but it ended up just being mediocre slightly worse old battlefield experience at best. There was also no callbacks to Battlefield 4? That’s what bothers me is that the formula they used that made games good was “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.” Battlefield 3 was perfect so Battlefield 4 ended up being very similar. Then in hardline they kept the same battlefield feeling despite the theme change. After hardline the developers tried too hard to make battlefield something it’s not
