I'll gladly do that
Asmongold. Has no connection to FPS games at all but feels like just the right person to do so.

@Jev vid?
The great thing about Jonathan is, that he plays video games and can analyze graphics and game mechanics with the right context.
I agree so many "experts" know 0% about video games but this guy got it.
Agreed, he even mentions that even though the RPG explosion and resulting destruction is unrealistic, he acknowledges that it is good for game design and balance.
that guy said you shouldn't inertia rack a pump action shotgun because you might damage it. He's a maroon.
@@Shane-eg5kqyou mean putting all the weight of the gun into the slide rails and swinging it up and down? That could easily damage some older or more fragile firearms. ‘Damage’ could be as little as a slight deformation in a single part.
@@judgemental9253 If you think inertia racking is bad for a pump You've clearly never racked a pump. Do you think you gently rack the pump? If that's going to damage it, what's going to happen when you fire it? Lmao.
God bless Jonathan Ferguson, the keeper of firearms and artillery at the Royal Armouries Museum in the UK which houses a collection of thousands of iconic weapons throughout history
Jonathan Ferguson, the keeper of firearms and artillery at the Royal Armouries Museum in the UK which houses a collection of thousands of iconic weapons throughout history, is a cool dude.
Man, I love Jonathan Ferguson, the keeper of firearms and artillery at the Royal Armouries Museum in the UK which houses a collection of thousands of iconic weapons thoughout history, he looks like such a cool dude
I'd love to have a job like the one Jonathan Ferguson, the keeper of firearms and artillery at the Royal Armouries Museum in the UK which houses a collection of thousands of iconic weapons throughout history has. Jonathan Ferguson, the keeper of firearms and artillery at the Royal Armouries Museum in the UK which houses a collection of thousands of iconic weapons throughout history sure is a cool dude
If I ever end up in the UK, I'll be sure to visit Jonathan Ferguson, the keeper of firearms and artillery at the Royal Armouries Museum in the UK which houses a collection of thousands of iconic weapons throughout history.
@@BluE68_ I've been to the Royal Armouries Museum in the UK which houses a collection of thousands of iconic weapons throughout history a number of times and I can say it is great although sadly I've never seen Jonathan Ferguson, the keeper of firearms and artillery at the Royal Armouries Museum in the UK which houses a collection of thousands of iconic weapons throughout history . You should really go to the Royal Armouries Museum in the UK which houses a collection of thousands of iconic weapons throughout history.
The nice thing about the simple art style is you can easily make changes to the models without costing much time.
It still naturally takes a decent amount of time, but the low poly style vastly reduces the whole process time, along with the lack of texture detail this simplifies it further.
@@ThatWhichObservesYou just repeated what the op said.
not time, but resources. Lower poly means much more optimisation
@@ThatWhichObserves bro why are you repeating what he said lmao
A massive thing also has to be that the animations are so much easier to make/adjust because there are no articulated fingers on the characters
What's great about this is not only are the developers are excited to see Johnathan critic and applaud their game, but also to give them advice on what to change to be like the real life counterpart
The surprisingly detailed critic does show he acknowledges the devs do care a lot to get things right. These videos with both Jonathan and Matt Easton both have them usually skimping over telling the whole information to save on time, until they see something they really like going on and go full tilt with the critique.
yes.. but also nerf the 74s recoil lol
@@awakeandwatching953 Nah, more like Nerf the Vector
Bro I remember how wild june 24th was, so much shit was going on for them it was amazing. The guns might even become better too, because a guntuber (garand thumb I think) asked if one of the devs wanted to fly over to the US to shoot some real guns and record audio
They deserve all the success, such a good fucking game
i agree i've never been more excited to see what the future of this game holds!!
garand thumb is a W fr
typical garand thumb W
Recording audio would definitely be amazing
Flannel daddy W
these devs are true heros giving us a game we always wanted that walks all over call of booty and battlepeeels
I just wish battlefield would start dropping bangers again. BF1 was incredible, then BFV and 2042 just killed the entire series in 2 releases. BF1 is still crazy cinematic though
Tbh. They're vastly different experiences. Battlebit has filled the niche the older BF titles left. And filled it very well.
Call of Creditcards, and Battlecredit.
@@inutero3516 bf1 is a terrible pvp experience, but otherwise it's a masterpiece
bfv pvp is very fun. if it wasn't riddled with cheaters, it's a blast. love me ww2 era firearms
@@inutero3516BF3 literally perfected the formula, and Battlebit shows how it never needed to be changed. It just needs to be smooth and consistent.
Every time the guy made any sort of criticism, I looked over at Larry to watch him mentally note the things he needs to fix. I'm so excited.
I'd love to see the game add the PKM, QJB-95, RPK, etc. Thanks for making most fun shooter in my steam library right now.
Rpk is definitely one of my favourite guns ever made so I second this lol
given the distinct lack of weapons for the support class i think it's reasonable
I too updoot this, I'd love to see a RPK and PKM in this
i'd rather have the PKP
We'd love to see PKM, RPK, RPD, etc, maybe M60, M240.
I hope this dev is feeling on top of the world as they deserve all the praise they've received. It's rare to see this genre get a breakout indie game when it's normally dominated by triple A studios releasing the same game for their yearly revenue bump.
ironically it's exactly because triple A dev with a deep pocket publisher that pushes out yearly product that exhausted their own market and the consumers
people wanted something fresh, something fun to play, maybe an hour or two a day
not sitting at the menu waiting for a 20+ GB update so that the graphics may look a tiny bit more realistic
meanwhile the game itself is a sweat fest and microtransactions
They got the compliments as well as constructive critisicm. Now gotta put what is acceptable in the game from the featured guns.
Amazing to see how impressed Jonathan was with this game. And even better to see the Devs taking on board his feedback and making changes, just like what the Hunt Showdown guys have been doing. And if this means a buff to the AK74 then I am a happy chappy
Even though BattleBit really isn't the sort of game I'm usually into, I have to say it's always so wholesome to watch developers reacting to their work getting the recognition it deserves. That little cheer you did when Jonathan praised the case ejections just made my day.
he's so humble about his nation firearms like "we tried", "British army did their best"
You saying you’ll go back and watch it again and take notes! It just shows a willingness to improve and learn. And I think with a game like with, as Jonathan calls it, low-polly-graphics I feel like it’s probably easier to go in and make changes to models or animations compared so some hyper-realistic games. Really hope they do a follow up in a while to cover some more of your weapons, and perhaps revisit some changes, who knows
I used to live next to Royal Armouries, it's free to visit
I was a range safety officer for a bit, and I got to shoot all the full-autos (FA) a bit.
In my experience: shooting the HK MP5 and the Kriss Vector one after the other, the difference in recoil was mind blowing, and not in the way you might first think. The MP5 was so pleasant to shoot, easy as hell to hold on target during full auto fire. The Vector's recoil, in both .45 ACP and 9mm, was DEVASTATING. At least I couldn't handle it.
Couple more brief addendums, I shot a 9mm G18 at FA WITH an attached stock; incredible muzzle rise, not a fan.
FA M4A1 with red dot, FUN, of course, not effective, however.
And lastly, my favorite gun I've had the pleasure of firing FA, an M1928 Thompson in .45 ACP. Most controllable recoil I've experienced in a full auto. I could control that recoil while standing unsupported with little effort.
Last fact and I'm done. The reason the Tommy Gun is so recoilless is in part because it is so damn heavy. Heavier than an M1 Garand, in fact, which fires a full power rifle cartridge.
the one that was built around its entire recoil mitigation system has more recoil? doubt
That was my first thought too! Imagine my shock!
@@Syddy_ the vector is a huge meme, there's a reason practically no agencies, departments or militaries bought it and it had nothing to do with cost.
the recoil system just isn't very good. a predictable straight push back into the shoulder actually works way better.
ask anyone who has actually shot one in full auto or watch any of the videos talking about how much it sucks.
really effective marketing team though, the average pleb is fully convinced they're magical laser beam smg's.
@@StrikeReyhi the 9 hole reviews video of it seemed very positive
@@StrikeReyhi i watched videos of people firing them before i made that comment, every single one looks like there's no upward recoil
The fact that your character doesn’t forcefully slaps the charging handle from the MP5 also bugged me a bit 😅 I hope it gets a animation rework so he actually slaps that filthy charging handle 😜
But it’s amazing that you guys actually acknowledge his feedback and i hope a second reaction releases.
Something I think they could do, is give all the support weapons bipods.
I can confirm about AK recoil. The recoil shown is about correct for an AK-47, but the 74 fires the 5.45x39mm...which is far lighter. (more like the NATO 5.56x45mm.)
Jonathan is the guy you want giving you feedback on your guns. He gives constructive criticism and clearly understands why certain choices were made. Also a great compliment and he says it if he has to nitpick then the gun is really well modeled.
thanks for the vod clip
:)
This game is so good. It deserves all of the great praise it has been receiving. I haven't this much fun in a game in so long, it feels refreshing.
BattleBit Remastered Dev stands there in silence as firearms expert reacts to Battlebit guns
the kriss vector can be balanced while being realistic. it doesnt have muzzle climb but it does have a lot of vibration when you fire. the barrel sort of rises a very little bit up then swings over to the right (if you are right handed, left else i would reckon?) and then pops down. its like a small 270 degree action on the barrel. you definitely feel recoil when you fire, it just does not climb much. however if you go full auto with it you do get a lot of vibration and the rounds basically disperse in a 270 degree pattern ignoring the diagonally down left. its easier to manage than most other pdw's but it surely isnt 100% effective as some people would like to believe. i dont think anyone outside kriss who fired that gun irl would claim its recoilless.
I love that youtube users upvote things like this when it's obvious the commenter is clueless.
@@Shane-eg5kq Man, you love painting yourself like the complete asshole that you are.
@@Shane-eg5kq thats not a counter argument
it's just a marketing technique to sell an overly engineered designed
but, do you realize how wide of an angle 270 degrees is? How much of a rotation 270 degrees is?
Really cool to see the devs POV throughout the game, more devs should do this sort of thing!
MY ONLY gripe with the review is that he didnt go through the different attachments!! and all the bells and whistles for each gun. battlebits really is impressive. BEST 15 IVE EVER SPENT.
Jonathan is not only very good in firearms, he is good with firearms, and on top of all this, he is a gamer, he is one of us, boys
would love to see some older weapons added too, kar98, mosin, svt40, ppsh. any ww2 era guns really :)
I would love to see them added! Naturally they should be true to life and as such should be objectively worse than most of the modern guns. But yeah seeing them added would be super cool!
@@turtleman5405 tell me what makes an old bolt action worse than a new bolt action^^
@@Schimml0rd First I would like to premise this with the fact that I am not an expert on firearms, history, or war. That being said I am going to pull heavily from online sources that know more than I do. From everything I've read modern firearms are generally superior in ammo capacity, ergonomics, sights, and materials.
"However, that superiority in terms of rate of fire and hitting the target in real terms may be an inch or two per 100 yards." - Some cool gun guy on Quora
So to answer your question I think a modern bolt action is only minorly superior to the previous generations of weapons you mentioned. That is, if we are specifically talking about bolt action weapons.
I think they are going with the sim that you are a modernly equipped army and there would be no reason they needed to revert to something super old.
@@Schimml0rd less options for customization, weight, ergonomics, quality of the parts which impacts accuracy, capacity, calibers that might not be as optimal for the job as more modern ones (for example the amount of recoil compared to the effective range etc), it all adds up.
This guy is a developer to be inspired by
if I ever get my mental health shit figured out enough to put the work in to release a whole game, this is the dude I wanna be like. Excellent.
BattleBit is the benchmark how game should feel like !
Great to see someone putting in the effort when they get feedback
This was great. I love Jonathan Ferguson, someone who plays games and understands the tradeoffs as well as being a gun expert working in a firearms museum. Seeing the dev himself have all his hard work and dedication appreciated was a real feel good moment. Plus you could see from the feedback and suggestions he genuinely cares about making the game accurate despite the incredibly basic graphics.
Of all the games to lead the Battlefield/CoD war I never thought it would be one looking barely better than Minecraft. But given the genuine passion I'm seeing from this dev I can really see why it's got things so right.
This is so heartwarming and awesome to see him excited!
Jonathan is a real gamer, not just a fire arms expert, he funny understands what yall are going for with the low poly style
If i were a developer on a game using real weaponry, I would bring this guy in as a consultant
Some games have, Johnathan talked about how he advised the devs of Sniper Elite 5 in his video on the game's weapons.
Also the Royal Armouries are in collaboration with Team17 for Marauders a.k.a Space Tarkov. The amount of rare and obsure variants of guns they have in that game is fairly impressive, but it's still rough and in early access.
Marauders' direct collaboration with Royal Armouries is probably one of the main factors on why they've haven't done an episode on it yet; they're waiting for a more complete version so they can show off their very best efforts.
I will probably be making a game soon, doubt it'll have many guns in it but I literally used to live about 2 miles from the royal armouries coulda got that easy haha.
@@SSgtJ0hns0n Love Marauders. I seen the video of him talking about a few guns in the game with the Developer
This is great! They just uploaded part 2 today!
I don't know if the devs weill see this but I suggested it on the GameSpot video as well.
Perhaps you guys could do something where the Devs visit the Royal Armouries and Jonathan lets them hold, inspect, and work some of the mechanisms of the weapons. Since the game is doing pretty well maybe they could offer a donation to the Museum.
Just a thought. Would love to see more.
So glad all your hard work is paying off, and verbally taking on the great constructive criticisms, this game is amazing and I'm glad it's getting the recognition it deserves
this guys read a comment on twitter saying if you dont like battlefield why dont you go and do it yourself and took it way too seriously thank you guys your game is amazing certified fine ill do it myself moment
You guys are doing a brilliant job, seriously impressive.
You guys absolutely deserve this. You have taken the military FPS genre by storm with something so simple-looking, yet made with so much love and care. You reminded everyone what really matters in a game and made something with a lot of heart and charm. Keep up the fantastic work.
The honey Badger should just hit the bolt catch button upon employ reload, same with the M110.
So wholesome! You guys rock
its nice seeing devs actually enjoy what they do
I love how giddy the Dev looks here and it really is a well done game. Very well done that overshadows Triple A companies with their 'impressive' game nowadays. Jonathan is also always a pleasure to watch on screen.
I like that he acknowledges that they arent low quality persay but they are just low polygon
As I’m watching this, GameSpot just released a Part 2 video of that expert reacting to Battlebit guns, what are the odds..
The Expert mis-spoke about the LSW. As it is the L86A1 in-game, not the A2 that he is holding, the cocking handle in game is correct as the pear shaped cocking handle he shows was only added as part of the A2 upgrade program. The A1 had a round cocking handle as shown in game.
Pretty cool, guys. It's not the kind of game I would generally play, but been hearing very good things about it. I saw a couple of firearms I have actually used and I am just as impressed as he was with the way you have managed to capture important details and silhouettes whilst still being low polygon count. Amazing stuff, and great attention to detail across the board; even his strongest criticisms were actually nitpicking, because you set the bar so high.
I so happy for you du de. I watched the original video, and theres comments on it about your reaction. And I believe they've mentioned it again in other videos, but I could be gaslighting myself on that. But you did an excellent job on it. Made me want to play it.
About Vector and "recoiless" guns in general: they all have recoil just because there is a bolt that slaps if not at the end but at least when round goes into the chamber. It's not vertical move, but it is a move. You can implement it as slight random horizontal moves because your armes are not made out of concrete. This can be a way to balance guns like Vector and AK, with a slight moves that obscure vision, but bring sight back. There was some guns in Battlefield 5, I think, that was slightly worse just because their recoil was overshooting return point, and that just on bolt rifles - you can't just aquire target back as quick as on the other one that did not have overshoot in aiming.
Its so refreshing to see the Devs Generally Interested in their game and Im so glad a purchased it right when it came out, I've played the playtests and the proximity chat People aren't Overtly toxic just generally having a great time and having fun playing the game.
This is glorious, How cool to have a legit expert review your game like this.
What is refreshing is this developer being excited to add quality feedback to the game. Kudos!
I love how the dev is so happy that he is having the guns reviewed.
This is essentially the same a getting a free consultation from a firearms expert for any details they may have missed in the gun models.
These guys being prepared to take a hammering in critique publicly and take notes directly from an expert is amazing.
Developers for the AAA games should take note and be prepared to learn from experts and the people who buy and ply their games
Happy for you guys, haven‘t played the game but i heard a lot of positives! Good job and good luck onwards!
Thats gotta feel real good to see and hear!
Thank you and your two bros for making this game! I having so much of a blast and i am feeling a little bit younger!
yo shoutout to this guy and all the other devs of this beautiful game
In case you guys are really worried about making sure everything is dead on accurate: Forgotten Weapons is a great youtube channel that covers all manners of firearms, along with Brandon Herrara, though he does more variety content involving firearms. (He also is designing the AK-50 which would be a really neat weapon to have in the game). GarandThumb I think covers Manual of Arms pretty often.
And now they just released part 2 Let's go!!!!!
You can tell he's impressed because he started giving really minute corrections like a teacher lol. Usually it'd be him having a gentle cursed aneurysm.
I love watching that expert speak. I love learning new things about firearms, and i love that i dont know everything:)
Good luck with your channel
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO BATTLE BIT!
I love how excited they got for seeing the hard work recognized.
The Vector should have Inverted Recoil ma guy just for screw with players
well technically that would be accurate to the gun itself since the Vector's mechanism makes the recoil on it close to barely felt.
@@alfa563 the vector does have recoil and it is easily felt, it is just a lot less of a push and more of a jump than most weapons
it still recoils up, just less
in terms of game balance, downward recoil is a cool idea
The devs did a great job here and looks like he will work to improve it to make it realistic. I love this!
can you make bipods bigger, and attachment locations better, right now certain guns are a bit awkward, and helicopters are usually RHD, love your game btw!
The joy at the begining!!! Such a wholesome moment
It's impressive how well-modeled the guns are in this game given the blocky graphic art style. For those military tactical shooter fans out there who haven't played this game yet, you absolutely should give it a try. There is a reason this game has such a large player base despite there being so many graphically superior military shooters out there.
smth to note is also that he is a firearms expert AND a gamer
It would be cool to see this guy react to ready or not weapons
Its wild to me that the only way to unlock stuff is though gameplay and stats and they needed to carry that over from another account.
I'm sure the first thing a modern studio does nowdays is work on robust account systems to manage all the microtransactions and DLC. We really should have pushed back harder on that horse armor.
My longest was 1989 meters in battlebit so far. The bulletdrop feels SO good.
you guys deserve all the praise, such a complete and fun game
best BF style game since BF4. im having such a blast playing it, putting new goals every day. currently im working on 110 kills in one game, SMG Medic. no tank etc. just beat 100 today.
as a "FPS Veteran" growing up with 1.6, playing most Competitive FPS there were, playing every BF there was.....i must say the Core Movement, Gameplay, Gunplay is just top notch. if youre good, fast, good aiming, you WILL dominate. in 2 weeks i went from being good to being top player almost every round. the movement is key. comined with aiming you can easily just go 70-10 ( depends on the revives etc).
Just imagine making a game like that, no expectation on how well it will do. The games blows up because it is actually good and you get to watch videos where experts react to your designs, actually praising it over anything AAA titles have done. This shit is actually wholesome as fuck lol
Hoping that i'm not the only one who's waiting for the AEK 971, the sexiest gun in the universe, with the BF3 animation reload.
Man, watching this made me realzied how poorly they showed off MGSV's guns to Johnathan. A good example would be the different warheads on the RPG in that game as well, they change as you upgrade the launcher.
man, Bellular's family must be good at making games
19:10 I will say though that he surprised by the 800 m kill shot And that he's never seen long distance kill shots like that in a game and then the dev says you can get up to 2,800 m but the longest kill shot in battlefield 4 was around like 3,400 or 3,500 m I think so you've had long distance shooting like that since at least 2013 and I think you could get similar ranges in battlefield 3 but those are two games that are coming to mind right off the top of my head
Been playing for the last few weeks and finally revisited Battlefield 2042. I'm in shock how much better Battlebit is. What it really comes down to is map design and gunplay. Battlebit destroys these newer BF games in that area.
I think it comes down to what is the game being played on. BattleBit being only PC as far as I know, can add more mechanics cause they aren't as limited by a controller is for games like CoD and Battlefield
The muzzle flash for all the weapons systems seem weird. Like 3/4 the way down the barrel. That's my only two cents.
@ the long range sniper comment // Novalogic; Black Hawk Down and Joint Operations. High range hit over 1km were a thing. It needed training, of course - but possible.
It still bothers me the deagle is the most powerful handgun in the game despite not being the most powerful
This is awesome. Love seeing them/him witness such glowing praise
Has to feel pretty confidence boosting watching this.
I like the reaction vid at this point has more then the official video.
8:23 i fucking lost it hahahahaha
+++
10:40 Actually Squad does, probably more games? but i know Squad does.
15:24
>8415 kills with the AK
whoever got the keys REALLY can play
I wish he paused the video when speaking or at least lowered the volume, I have trouble hearting the Dev, but I can hear Jonathan very clearly.
While I have already seen the vid from Jonathan and I'm here for the dev's reaction, wish I could hear him more.
19:48 I think this is the best information from this video. 2 800 meters long-shot kill.
Has the dev seen the part two???
Well done, congrats on what is really a milestone achievement.
Imagine, just imagine being an indie dev and having better praise about the accuracy of your weapon portrayal than a Triple AAA developer like Activision with Vanguard. This shows that passion pays. When you actually love what you create people will notice and love you for it.
The A1 variant of the l86 never had the C shaped cocking handle, that only arrived with the A2 variant. That was one of the things the A2 design improved upon. It is the same as the l85a1 has the rounded cocking handle but the l85a2 has the C shaped one. So they did it correctly.
That is exactly what he said. He picked "the wrong one off the rack".
The original video got me to buy this game bc of the realistic gun play and mechanics of them
This video just made the game to be 10x better in the future
