  • Welcome to Trail Therapy! In this video we begin the overloading build on my 2023 GMC Canyon AT4 with wheels and tires. I went with the Method Race Wheels 703, featuring their bead grip technology, in a 17x9 -12. paired with Nitto Ridge Grapplers in 285/75/R17, or 34 inches. It definitely didn't go as planned and I had to do a lot of trimming. Next up, rock sliders / running boards, and a lift kit. Subscribe to follow along for the build!

The new wheels/tires added exactly 1 inch of ground clearance. So the rear differential is now 10.5 inches.
I forgot to put that in the video.

When I was fitting my 33's, I used a heatgun to heat up the inner wheel fenders, used a hammer to bend them while hot, and used a spray bottle with cold water to flash cool the plastic. Granted I have a Lexus GX460. After the heat bending and a (common for GX) body mount chop, no rubbing at all on my setup, and I was able to keep the inner fenders intact.
If you plastic fender liners are still in the way, the heat gun method might work.

I heavily considered the AT4X… but at the end of the day, an extra $12,000 for lockers was just so hard to justify knowing that I would replace wheels and tires on either one. Awesome trucks, but you certainly pay for it.

The AT4X & ZR2 will accommodate 35s at stock height. There are a few people running them already [including me].
AT4 & Trail Boss will fit 33s; the Z71 is where it gets iffy … people are doing 1” front levels to fit 33s.

Also, if you are running a spacer lift, know that you are actually reducing suspension travel.

Sweet truck! I don’t get the desire to push the tires out so far. I know it’s a personal preference, but I can’t stand that look. If you put that size tire on the factory wheel, they probably would have fit without rubbing, and in my opinion looked better. Beadlocks are overrated for what most people are doing. I used to run my Wrangler tires at 12-15lbs on 8” steelies and never lost a bead. Run my RZR tires on factory wheels at 9-11lbs. No problems.

Great video and love the new look of your truck! I have a 20023 Black ZR2 and am considering the same rims, for the weight and Bead Grip. Couple questions...did you reach out to Method and ask them what gives with the 3-4 pound difference? Seems like quite a bit to be off advertising by. Also, did you check out Brink Wheels in your searching? They are flow formed and super light (legit), I just haven't seen many user out there with them for some good feedback, but they look nice. Thanks! Sub'd - Jeff

Why? Putting too big of a tires ? Why void your car warranty destroying your car wheel well

Because big tires make small holes. I don’t care about the warranty on my suspension components. They’ll all be swapped out completely before the warranty is even up. Thanks for watching.

This truck hasn’t even been out a year, so pretty hard to say anything about the long term reliability. But thanks for watching!
