- The Mazda Rx7 is getting closer and closer to starting up for the first time again after 10 Years! We got out new Haltech Elite 2500 in along with the New Rywire engine harness. Normally I don't Mind making my own engine harnesses for the cars but this time around I wanted to make things a bit easier. We also make some room for the impending Greddy V Mount Kit to come in by moving the Battery from The Mazdas engine bay into the bins.

I could tell you were insanely happy to have a pre-made engine harness. Makes sense that you don’t want to have to make another one again like you did with the STi 😂
I will only make them when I absolutely have to 😂😅
I started watching you for your STI content but dude this RX7 build hitting different, I’m so excited to see it come together!
I can't wait to hear this thing breathe life again 🔥😍
12:41 running the fuel line in front of the oil filter will get in the way of spark plug wires and make that area harder to access when changing spark plugs. Most RX7 owners run fuel lines behind the oil filter similar to the OEM setup. 18:43 I would add another heat shield to keep turbo & exhaust heat away from the fuel rails (and fuel pressure regulator).
Easy to adjust that one line to move it 🔥 have some sheet metal to make a few heat sheilds just holding off until more it assembled to see what I have to work with for space 🫡
I'm glad Rywire is as big as he is now. He used to make harnesses for the EF guys back in the day on honda-tech.
They do killer work on these harnesses 🔥
Another electrical adventure we're on. Glad you can make sense of it! I can't. Good luck
Luckily this one is much easier 😅
Oooooh... I like the new music!!! More of this please! Also, I'm loving getting familiar with a wildly different platform. Thanks for showing us this process!
Another thing... what are the secondary fuel injectors for? Do they add on to the existing fuel injectors output? Are they used for a separate combustion cycle?
@Steven Loyall diffrent load settings, so the primary injectors would be for when the car is idling then the secondary would aid in power 🔥🙏
Getting so close to first start!!!! Exciting!!!
Can't wait for the braps!
These cars have to be the sexiest jdm platform out there, so glad you have one and saved it from the dreaded ls swap.. Harness is beautiful looks super time saving and will be stout af for this application good choice dude.. As always love any video you put out, keep up the great work can't wait for a zero issue first start up!
Thanks buddy! Been absolutely loving this car. Few things with a learning curve but can nkt wait to have it ripping 🔥
This is very good news! She will be running soon.
Can not wait to hear this thing live again 😫
I’m really enjoying watching your progress on this build. Keep up the good work.
The Mazda has been a nice breath of fresh air 🔥 she's getting closer every day 🎉
Picking up a Brz july 1st putting the wrx on hold since a tree fell on it in a storm last night your videos always help me learn though thanks for being you
What generation BRZ you looking at? 👀
I'm loving all this rx7 content!
Been a nice break for me from all the subaru stuff 🔥🫡
Super slick setup Homie!
Eyyy, thank you 🔥🙏
18:54 relocating that fuse box should work. The big wire feeding power to the starter wire connects to the unfused 12V wires (straight from the battery positive). The alternator power goes through the 120A Main fuse, the wires are in the same harness that feeds power to the starter. Post questions on the 3rd Gen section of RX7club forum if you're still unclear, people there can help share copies of the factory wiring diagram and maybe spell out the function of each of the fuses too.
I love how responsive you are with you’re fans and also how transparent you are with your builds. I plan on getting and building a hawk eye sti in the next five years thanks to you!
Oh you love it! Hawkeyes are a beautiful chassis to build on 🥳
Love your attention to detail. Lookin good Tanner! 💯💯💯
It's all in the details 🥳
That rywire harness is the sexiest thing I've ever seen. 10/10
This is beautiful 😍
So tidy so fresh brother nice job
Thank you🫡🫡🫡
For polishing: Scotch Brite pads on an angle grinder. There's 3 grades so you can zip through the oxide layer and get a low-grade shine in no time flat. Follow with actual compound and it'll be mirror-level in a couple hours.
This is what I was doing for a while but there's some spots I couldn't get it into so had to do alot by hand.
Still have some more work to do on the polishing 😅
This!^^^
Love seeing you do this.
One daybat a time she getting there 🫣
This build just keeps looking better and better
We need the braps Fox!
That is a great looking wiring harness brother.
Well worth the monies 🎉
The fd RX-7 is going to be awesome! It's one of my favorite cars.
So glad to have snagged this one, excited for the Braps!
@@Smeedia me too
Awesome 👌 let's get it back on the road
Getting close 🫣🔥
Don't mind me. Just chilling watching Tanner do his thing. 😎

Love your videos man. its super sick to watch you build multiple cars at a time
Appreciate the support buddy! Excited to bring em all back 🔥
@@Smeedia Im currently building a 2004 wrx for my first car. The engine was of course blown so I'm transplanting an engine from an 02 wrx into my 04 and then wrapping the car millennium jade. Your yellow 04 sti that you used to have is definitely an inspiration to keep building my car, even though mines not even close to being as nice as that one haha.
Check out the zPrecision battery mount. It's for an antigravity lithium battery but will only require you drill a couple small holes rather than cut the whole bottom.
I really appreciate your channel. I feel you are going to love the power band of the 13B, however heat is a real issue with these engines.
Super excited to have the RX7 to play with, heard they feel so diffrent to drive 🔥
I love your channel I'm always excited to see your progress on your projects. Can't wait to see the next one.
Never ending cycle 😅🥳
keep the AC!!! the greddy v mount kit comes with the parts to extend stuff. def need a vented hood if you are getting the v mount.
Oh, perfect! May end up tossing all the AC parts back in, then 😅
@@Smeedia yea its the only kit on the market that comes with parts to keep the AC! the only thing, it doesnt come with is the wires for the fan relocation. they wont be long enough
@Rx-Heaven that's an easy fix, I can extend the fan harness out to whatever length it needs to be 🫡
Knock sensor in a rotary is not a warning device, it's a "Your engine just died" indicator.
Lol I'm aware 😅 I already have a spare sensor and the harness is pinned for it so I may as well just add it in 😅
A productive week-end🚀
🫡🫡🫡🫡
Love the channel. I'm so pumped to see this thing run.
We need to hear the braps 🫴
very exiting to see the rx7 content cant wait to see how agress of a wheel you'll chose
Some big Ole meats are what we need 😅
I didn’t know I’d like the Rx7 content ad much as I am! Man, that engine is weird but cool too!
They're such odd little engines but I have grown to like them 😅🔥
Looks good so far.
I am glad you didn’t try make that harness work, you could also gut most of the body harness in the engine bay. It has a lot of unused wiring in it and if I remember correctly there is only two relays you need to keep in the front box. The tab you are missing from the relay box is a metal one and it slides and is held with the little lump holding in.
You may also want to consider heat treatment on the passenger side floor and trans tunnel
That harness would have been so unreliable it would have been a nightmare to try and make work 😅
Colour matched fenders on the 22 wrx pleasasee loving the FD tho!!
Debating them 😅
@@Smeedia There is no debating this! 😁
Oooh FD's looking better and better!
I can not wait to hear this thing come back to life 😍
A blitz rims would look soooooo good.🤤🤤🤤
Ohhhh they would, but they be $$$$ 😅
The battery relocation is clean af.
Thanks Joshua 🫡🔥
I could literally spend the better part of an hour explaining why rotary have "unusually high BTU" exhaust. Nature of the beast. Make sure Turbo is well secured, and exhaust is well shielded. (Rotary are the reason I first used hard lines on turbo/wastegate since diesel fuel lines)
Have nord locks holding the turbo down 🫡 might order a downpipe blanket to control hest even more. The wastegate vaccumm lines look they will be a fun time 💀
@@Smeedia I mean like making one of the oil flanges a front cover mount. The bolts and fasteners may be fine, it's the slumping from heat. Takes some relief from the manifold too.
The wire in front I think is goes to coolant temp sensor for a defi gauge
It's built into the harness 🫣
@@Smeedia the like that is connected to my defi gauge that taps into my radiator hose second one is engine blocks . But it looks like it belongs to a coolant temp
Sensor.
Turbo looks fire! 🔥
Polished was the way 🔥
Pushing 120 k Tanner nioce.
🥳🥳🥳🥳
So close keep it up
🫡🫡🫡🫡
oohh the polish is mint
It was the move! Well worth the 3 hours it took 😅
The rotary engine coming back to Mazda MX 30 R-EV
I saw! Super curious to see more of it as more details come out
YOOO SO EARLY I LOVE THAT BUILD BROOO😍😍😍
Eyyyy, thanks buddy 🥳 very excited to have this thing running again 😍
5:20 ya dude. Look at it wrong and it’ll break 😂
So brittle 😂
Love you smeedia keep up the good work!!
Thanks buddy! Always appreciate the support ❤
An early in the day Smeedia video?! Gonna be a good Father’s Day now 😂😂
Eyyy happy fathers day John!
An air locker for the diff would be sweet. Street frendly then push a button and go drift mode
Never heard of this before so looking into it now 🫣 I do wanna have some fun with this one
Arb should possibly make one for your car?
Not sure if you have ever mentioned if the engine has dowel studs or not, but 500-600hp is probably asking for trouble without their added strength in the block.
The front fuse/relay box shown at 2:35 will be in the way of the v-mount. I've seen some GReddy kits have a bracket to relocate it further up into the bumper. I'd like to know what you do since the previous owner/builder of my FD just has it hanging on a zip tie and I need to fix it. 😆
Usually people keep the battery box (18:55) in that area and just run the battery wire to it. Just be absolutely sure all the positive connection points are well insulated as quite a few FDs have burned down where it shorts on intake piping.
It does have studs but they are OE size. Ideally I only want 450whp out of thr car. But I was told with this turbo it will want to do more.
Might have to push it up and under the bumper then 😅 if it does fit I may just make a bracket to keep it there then 😅
After watching a few videos I think this is what I'll end.up doing then securing it to something to keep it in its spot 🫡
Why cerkote only the lower portion of the intake manifold and not the entire thing? Is it maybe because coating the entire thing prevent heat leaving the mani from the top (a a beneficial thing)?
Ay I think I saw you recording yesterday!
Very possible 😅🔥
Yuuuuuussss!!!! Random update (because i can) i converted my 84 rx7 to push start!! Normally i would leave the ignition cylinder in buuut. It was punched out when i bought the car. Turbo looks amazing!! Why put the battery in the cab??
Ohhhh not a bad upgrade! We had to move the battery to the bins to make space for the greddy V mount kit to fit 🫡
@@Smeedia ah. What did you use to polish the turbo?
@@Thechaoscrusadors alot of sand paper and alot of scotch Brite 😅
Did you happen to find a mil-spec harness that supports the twins? I could only find ones that support single turbo setups. Also, that fuse box is connected to the battery in stock location so it wouldn't be a bad idea to put it where the power stud is.
I have not seen one for the stock twins, unfortunately. I'm assuming it would need all the connections for all of the vaccumm solenoids?
@@Smeedia correct. The ones I have seen (like rywire brand) are missing them. I figured I would ask just in case you happened to have run across one. I am trying to make my FD as OEM+ as possible.
Oil level sensor ties directly to the drivers side fuse panel harness. Has nothing to do with the Haltech. You'll need to hook that up otherwise the red low oil level warning light will turn on on the oil pressure gauge part of the instrument cluster. Just buy a new oil level sensor if you have too.
Ordering a new one then 😅 found the harness it plugs into. Would rather not have extra lights on if I can avoid it lol
@@Smeedia One more thing, once you start the engine, there is a chance that you'll have a bouncing oil pressure gauge on the cluster. If that happens after running for a while, the fault will be the oil pressure sensor mounted on the back iron underneith the oil filter. When those go bad, they make the oil pressure gauge hand bounce.
@@rotaryperfection that's for the cluster?! I was going to mount the haltechs oil pressure sensor there not knowing this so thank you! I have two of those massive ones so if ones bad I can Try the other 😅
@@Smeedia Yea the factory sensor wires directly to the cluster from that same fuse panel harness. You can just TEE there if you want to include the Haltech sensor so you have 2 readings.
Should've watched Gears and Gasoline's interior rx7 swap, ben fixed the bin issues
I remember watching something about that a while ago but don't recall much of it 👀
What bin issue are you referring to? I had a 1993 RX-7 R1 and my bins always worked perfect...
You have plans of keeping the RX7 long term? I definitely would suggest it with how rare they will become and so sought after. And you know with the way the world is changing trying to electrify vehicles it will be a cool keeper too.
I plan on holding onto this one, I guess i should say I won't be going out of my sell it. If someone came up to me with a stupid good.offer I wouldent say no lol
@@Smeedia I hope you keep it. I subscribed for the subaru stuff after we bought a Forester XT as a family car, but both of my personal cars are RX-7s which I have owned for over 20 years. I don't always watch every single subaru vid, but I never miss the RX-7 ones.
I have to say it. Coming from a Subaru diehard. This build is more exciting than any Subaru build. Wow. There I said it 🫣😮💨
Don't get me wrong, you know I LOVE Subarus. But they are also a dime a dozen. This is something that's a bit out of the norm that I'm all about right now 🔥
@@Smeedia I know nothing about RX-7’s other than what I’ve learned from Initial D 🤣 but I had no idea how fun it would be to watch and learn. This is prime TV.
The fd needs the oem strut bar
Need to order one 😅
@@Smeedia I couldn't see the logo but does it have racing beat sway bars?
2:39 there is a little metal bracket that slots into a tab on the rad support side of the fuse box
ruclips.net/video/PMakZNOQ1eM/видео.html this video shows hot to put a greddy v mount in but also shows the tab on the fuse box at the 10 min mark also shows how to can relocate it to behind the front bumper hout extending the harness
I’ve always been a evo guy but I really like rx-7’s! My friend has a fd and it sounds sick! Looking forward to hearing this run! And what exhaust you get 🤔
Have a Tomei on de way for it 🫣 figured we need to Really HEAR the braps 😅
@@Smeedia nice!! I was really close to getting a Tomei for my 21 wrx! But I love the quad tip look and it’s a daily so went with the invidia r400! Still plenty loud 😂 Tomei are just the pinnacle of catback! Can’t wait to hear the first cold start! 👍
That’s not enough injector if you plan on running e85!! You will be out of injector around 380hp on e85. Remember you have half the time for the injector to fire vs a piston motor.
I had to add 2 more 1700s
On the secondary side or primary side? I have the harness and rails for 4 injectors on the secondary side. Just need a diffrent lower manifold 👀
@@Smeedia if you have the excess engineering lower and the radium fuel rail, you can add 2 more 1700s as you have the rywire harness that lets you run 4 secondary injectors.
If you don’t then you will need to just run bigger secondary.
@@brianawd ill prob just get the diffrent lower then, if i can stay at ID1700 and below that would be ideal.
Also I was wondering why u didn't take the 6speed out of the hatch and save it for the VB wrx too much work?
Too much work and I did not have a 5 speed to put back in it
I respect your effort to dive into different platforms and challenge yourself with new things. The rotaries have always been interesting to me, but I'm not brave enough to bother with one. You should try something LSX powered next.....👀🇺🇸🦅
I have a V8 idea coming soon 🫣 trying to learn the hardest engines first so everything after is a breeze 😅 once rosaries and flat engines are mastered nothing can stop us lol
Happy puppy dad day to you sir because well I know. Oh yeah, yay I got first
Thanks buddy 🥳 don't think it counts but ill take it 😅
@@Smeedia ill take it because regardless they are family and you are their father
Any RX7 content = 🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤

You don’t need oil level sensor
Perfect, not replacing that then 😅
Suh-WEEET!
🥳🥳🥳🥳
You will regret not installing the a/c. Engine heat management will be fine.
I was talked into keeping it 😅
Hola cómo estás.
Any time a hammer comes out its one of two things, absolute rage and the extreme option, or hell yeah I'm getting smack it with a hammer with a logical purpose.
😂😂😂
How much room is in one of those cars? I’m 6’2 I don’t even know if I would fit in one.
Not a ton 😅 you could fit but not very comfortably
6 2" with a low profile aftermarket seat bolted directly to the floor or a super low profile seat mount you could fit height wise. You also want an R1/R2 or base model so you don't have the sunroof so you can gain an inch or two from the bubble roof. Now if you want to wear a racing helmet, that's a different story.
They sell these now … I remember making mines from scratch 15 years ago
Would still suggest doing it from scratch lol only reason I got the "kit" was for the battery. Wouldent recommended it
@@Smeedia 😂👍
Why the rywire opposed to the haltech?
Rywire uses Tefzel wire, haltech uses silicone. The tefzel will take more abuse 🙏
Tefzel boys, sounds 👍 to me
I think that wire goes to ac
I have a question ya’ll. I’m buying my first Subaru this week. A 2004 STI. It does not currently have an access port but I want to get one so I can monitor the car and make sure the tune is good for all the parts on it. The car has tgv deletes so it’s not green speed compliant, but it also has a bunch of other mods on it. So my question is: First of all, am I screwed in terms of getting an access port? Second: Could I add the tgvs back on or would I run into problems with all the other mods on the engine? Cheers
Put the tgvs back in, get an AP and get a retuned and you'll be solid 👌
What’re the laws like when it come to modifying cars over in the US? Here in Australia you can get a fat fine just for putting wheels that are too big let alone engine mods and turbos 😂
Tbh they don't care too much where I'm at. I've driven around my STI with the exhaust out the fender and the police do not care at all. As long as it has all lights and blinkers were good 😅
Love it when companies call something MILspec. Little they know, the military uses lowest cost companies/ contracts for parts and services..
Lol facts, but for some reason in the civilian world Mil spec is stupid expensive
😎👍🏻👍🏻 NOICE!!!!
TOMMMM!!!!
The RX7 is really starting to look good, looking foward to hearing that Wankel run.
It's been an interesting one 😅 with this being my first one it's been a challenge to figure out what goes where when I did not take it apart 😅
Man he’s speaking gibberish to me! But i enjoy the content.
Haha always appreciate the support 😅🫡

Im confused all optima battery's are also sealed battery's. most modern battery company's all of them are sealed
Litterally optima's marketing Lead and AGMs have nothing to do with it being sealed. "Are OPTIMA batteries sealed?
OPTIMA's Absorbent Glass Mat (AGM) separators hold electrolyte like a sponge to eliminate acid spilling. Each maintenance-free battery is also completely sealed, preventing corrosion and acid spills."
Is it fully sealed?! Thing has a vent hole on it though 😫
@Smeedia from what I read, yes, unless their marketing team is lying. Might see if I can find more but they bring up how you can mount it anywhere and Yada yada
@@pwnzama9403 still would have Bern too big for the bins. But ima go smell that hole and see what I find 🤣
@@Smeedia 🤣🤣
I’m early again I’m liking this 😂
Eyyyyyy 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Relay box is missing the retainer clip where you stick a bolt through it.
I struggled with my wrx and an fd this weekend so much that I almost didn't even want to watch this video. Just trauma man..
What happened?! 😅
Having the knock sensor there is a waste of money!! In order to use a Bosch wideband knock sensor you literally have to make the motor knock so the ecu knows what is real knock vs what is just motor noise.
Does it hurt to have it though? I have a couple extra Haltech Knock sensors here already 😅
@@SmeediaYeah on the RX7 13B it's pointless. If the car ever knocks you'll have a blown Apex seal. In the hell tech you can just do knock sensor delete lol
Whatever you do don’t sell it
You won't see me posting this one for sale 🫡
Is it just me or does this thing have 100x more seals than any subaru?
It definitely does 😅 everything has a seal or O ring lol
pretty sure 99% Rotors dont get Engine Knock...
They definitely can knock, they knock one then die lol
Knock is just a term for a ping or detonation, not the physical sound
Shooting for 600 hp … at the moment…
