Makes writing with a fountain pen worlds easier, and anything I have to transcribe onto my computer is easy to type up since I'm not dealing with self-turning pages. // I really appreciate such a thorough review though. It's actually really neat to see the minute differences which can ultimately sway you to stick to one brand over the other.
Except it bleeds with at least half my fountain pen and ink combinations, and medium is the widest nib I use. Many, many notebooks lie flat, and have far better paper for fountain pens.

Thank you, JetPens, for everything you do. (Loved the video, by the way!) :)
I really like the Rhodia notebook by far the most, because of the feel of the paper and how it responds to fountain pens. The Leuchtturm1917 also looks great based on this video, especially the paper weight and texture... This has convinced me to get one. (Not to switch over, just to get an additional one, though that might be too many notebooks.) (...no never mind you can't have too many notebooks.)
Would love to see the exact same kinda of video but for sketchbooks that can hold lots of ink, I'm on my second Moleskine art sketchbook but I'm always on the lookout for an alternative but it's hard to compare sketchbooks online

Ooh, I like the blackwing's pencil loop. Apica's detachable band sounds nice too, since I usually have one specific pen for each notebook I use haha. Though I only used the notepad before, I can confirm that rhodia's paper is an absolute joy for fountain pens.
I LOVE my blackwing notebook so much. Its the first journal ive gotten where i feel like i could actually use one for the rest of my life. Truly the best ive ever had.

@@gluten1925 Yes! Well now that I see the video I guess they're not really good for inkier pens. Also I think that there are some Moleskines that have better quality paper.
This was my experience as well. I think there was a paper change about ten years ago. Because I generally write with fountain pens, I settled on the Rhodia journals and have not had reason to change. Really wet writing pens will still ghost or bleed, depending on the ink. But my favorite inks work pretty well.
Moleskine is very inconsistent with their quality control IMO. I stick with Rhodia and Clairefontaine which have the best fountain pen friendly papers for me. But I admit that I am so spoiled and biased with these French brands since I always have written on those good quality paper since my childhood. 😁🇫🇷
I have been using Moleskine for many years, primarily for the size (pocket fit) the A5 formats are just a little too large for the average jacket pocket. Just some feedback; I write with fountain pens, and the after much research discovered that the best combination for the Moleskine is a "Platinum Preppy" Fine nib with Noodler's black waterproof ink. There is virtually no bleed through and the great thing about the Preppy fountain pen is that it writes equally well with nib reversed for an extra fine line.
There is a Moleskine look-alike at Staples for half the price that takes fountain pen color pencil and very light amounts of water (artist here) very well. I use it’s grid paper version as my general art and note book and just got the smaller dot version for work (like a bullet journal size)
Awesome video and exactly what I needed. My writing is relatively large so I hate college ruled pages, which most notebooks offer. I love grid or dots and I love Rhodia paper, so I'm going to order the Rhodia notebook. Thanks for the info! Thanks, also, for the wonderful videos you put out and your excellent website! Rhodia webnotebooks and Leuchtturm work for me, prefer dot grids for flexibility! Love how both handle fountain pens and offer the best writing/journaling experience! Excellent video!
When I tried fountain pens again several months ago, I realized that I had to be more picky about paper. After weeks of researching, I bought a large (many sheets) B5 notebook from Etsy with Cosmo Air Light paper. It's terrific! (Jetpens did not have anything in B5 size with as many pages as I wanted in that paper.)
I've used Moleskine for decades. The only problem I've had is that its smoothness doesn't seem to play well with my EF nib Lamy Safari, though I haven't yet tried changing the ink. I've had no problem with other fountain pens (with broader nibs), using ink from the same manufacturer. I was very surprised to learn that Moleskine's paper has the lightest weight and is the least smooth in the bunch, since it's the other way around when compared with other notebooks I've used. Thank you for this detailed information!
The moleskin notebooks are really good. The paper is extraordinarily smooth and the lines on the paper are more suitable for people with small hand writing. The only downside is that it costs like 25-30 dollars.
The fact that the paper ghost with many gel pens, and bleeds like crazy with fountain pens is also a huge downside for many. I'm not at all sure I've ever tried worse paper. The newer expanded Moleskine have even thinner, worse paper. Even Walmart Exceed notebooks have far, far better paper, and cost under ten bucks.
You should try the Joyko Notebook A5 series! They have plain, ruled, grid and dotted pattern. The paper of the notebook is really thick even if you do 10x scratches, it's not bleeding! Clairfontaine Triomphe paper is great for fountain pens and makes for a good letter writing experience. If i want something with decorations, i use a tablet of midori letter writing stationary.
@@TheFireDiamond So far, I've been using Southworth parchment paper. Fountain pen friendly, reasonably priced, readily available. I've looked at the Clairfontaine, but haven't gotten any yet.
@@jamesaritchie1 Clairefontaine Triomphe is my current one. The Southworth proved as inconsistent as anything I've found US made, after all. Was like they put better grade paper on the top, and each one after got progressively worse. From my experience, it's not entirely the paper to blame. "There was less problems with the paper in the past." Nope. Different formulation of the ink. I have been delving into vintage inks, and all seem to do fairly well on paper that's pretty bad for modern ones. Just not as many pretty colours and shades and special properties, which seems to be where the problems with basic papers seem to stem from. Looking at what historians have said about Victorian paper, it was about as bad as modern school paper. Where we worry about bleeding, shadowing, feathering, they seem to have been working around it. Not really willing to hunt for only vintage inks, so Clairefontaine Triomphe works well for me. 😁

I'm on a completely broken income, but sometimes you just have to save up and buy the good stuff.
ugh I wish the rhodia came out with white papers...
i thought you said "Leuchtturm" as "Lecturm"
