@@jfar3340what exactly is a ‘convincing’ jazz piece? There isn’t a strict set of rules that you have to follow to play jazz and all the great jazz masters - players and composers - listened to all sorts of other music, from classical to rock and funk (in the case of Miles). You might understand if you climbed out of your conceptual prison for five minutes.

That is a good tip. Alternate Picking is a heavy part of the game so treating it like a Metronome Pendulum is a great idea

That's an interesting idea on how to emphasize notes. I usually tend to use hybrid picking which has the same idea while grooving. Although, as fingerprints has a lower impact on strings comparing to the pick surface, my picks have a more rounded shape which result in a lower attack, thus balancing the dynamics between notes played from my fingers and pick. In addition, plucking the string will add emphasis as the picking notes can float over the finger notes creating this groove ish result.

Improvisation:freedom. And Guthrie puts his freedom at the top.
Even Guthrie playing on the upbeat , doesn't have a traditional swing feel .
His feel is right at that 50/50 swing/straight feel
yes i like Govan.. he can play jazz ver well but he's not jazzy like Benson, Pass..jazz swing is not easy!!!

It is really nice just to listen Guthrie or anyone else who can speak English not the dumb sounding version of the language. And it doesnt hurt that he’s really good teacher and always comes accross like decent human being.

this guy is very good but ...lol how can i say as a french guy with a very bad english ! he should have made sport ! he likes competition , " hey who is the best in the world" ? me ! this guy play guitar all day long , he doesnt have a sexual life ! he never goes to the toilett ! even after eatin pakistan food ! he doenst sleep , never , he doesnt read , he only play the guitar ! so we can hear it in his playin , ok he can play like ...everybody , he can take the place of all the virtuosos if they get the flu, i mean if tomorrow larry carlton die , " ok lets call Gowan , malmsteen has corona , " ok lets call gowan" ! but even if i play since 45 years its just boring ! him and greg howe or players like them ...too noisy too fast all the time ! sort of pilots , they should do " grand prix " with race cars !
