I will try to answer your questions: this person bought some sort of a kit for growing crystals. The plastic thing under the whole set has some sort of space for salt water. The paper "tree" contains colorants. When the water touches the paper pieces it moves up (because capillary action, physics makes water move up). Water moves with a salt and starts to dry up when it reaches the highest point of the paper piece and the salt stays forming large groups of crystals.

that is debatable, if you get off the blossoms and put it in a little of hot water, and put this water (at room temperature of course) in the tree's vessel , it will be re born
@Assamita76 so it only blooms once? what I'm saying is, does the tree need constant sprinkling of water? and if it does and you've made the tree bloom many times over and over; what happens when the water is finished? can you buy a new packet sepereatly? :)
@parkerstoybox lol - I didn't say what TYPE of salt. Sodium Chloride wouldn't make crystals like this - it tends to dry too fast and crust too much. But really? This is saltpeter? Shit man, don't light a cigarette near it after it's dry!
