If I remember correctly, Howard Ashman wrote all the music for this movie. The director basically looked at it, chucked out 90% of the story and music. And only left the three songs that Robin Williams sang. If I remember correctly, this was not the original storyline for this. Sideways does a good video about why Disney Like Action songs are bad. He mentions this in that video.
@@FilmTheRightThing I’ve got this dummy of a friend and she says the live action version is without a doubt the better version and I need you to put her in her place brother!
I agree with youn on the original except for Robin Williams performance makes it worth coming back. You should watch the video on why this movie is bad. It talks about how Genie is the only cartoon who was built around a voice actor instead of an actor being selected for an already made character. He also had outtakes that weren't allowed because they were risque or political.
Man i have not watched this movie in a long time but looking at it here ... yeah the art looks really flat a lot of the time ... often the Backgrounds are really empty and uninspired (the nightsky in several shots for example is just a simple monotone blue with white dots) ... but also some still images and background were really well drawn (some images of the city) so it really feels kind of cheap most of the time. Ah well at least we still have the Aladdin super nintendo game ... that shit was fire :)
Aladdin is a rip off another movie so it's not surprising if the intro is mid because they only took key elements from what they were ripping off i.e. Princess, Thief, Sultan, Evil Wizard...etc. And packaged it with a Disney label.
But princesses, sultans, evil wizards, genies are all common tropes from the Arabian Nights stories. The movie you say Aladdin ripped off these plot elements from also was an amalgamation of different stories from the Arabian Nights. These are all nothing but common tropes/archetypes from the original stories.
Arabia of I'm not mistaken is the area we currently call Saudi Arabia, the Saudi just comes from the ruling family's name. And I have a nostolgic love for Aladdin (the cartoon). The remake.... was just boring AF. I guess queer-coding villains can read as subtle homophobia but the fix isn't to remove all personality and not replace it with a new one?? Even straight evil for no reason is fun when done right, look at OG maleficent! She was great! Make the damn villains INTERESTING.
Arabia used to refer to all the countries in the Arabian Peninsula (Saudi, UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, Yemen, Oman, Qatar and so on). There was Arabia Felix (the fertile parts of Arabia) and Arabia Deserta (the arid regions of Arabia). Arabia refers to the general region, but the country Saudi Arabia is a place that is under the rule of the Al Saud clan, which happens to be much of the Arabian Peninsula.
Well, that was a bummer. Great video, but what a crap movie. I love the original, completely aware that it's the Robin Williams show, and without him the movie doesn't work. The newer one is a pile of lazy garbage. Anyone on your comments that says otherwise is wrong. None of the live action Disney flicks work. None of them. Even the best one is terrible...which ever one that is. Thanks for the entertainment. :)
I can understand why these movies ate soulless but why are the Disney remakes all just flat. This could've been like a bollywood film in scope but its just so boring

I think I heard that when they made this remake, the reason for the visuals looking so cheap is because they wanted it to have the same look & feel to a Bollywood movie.

Well yeah songs for musicals were written differently back then so updating them for the present is gonna bring up some issues
