  • @TestGearJunkie.
    @TestGearJunkie. 10 месяцев назад +9

    09:00 I'm a little concerned about the positioning of the radio console in the centre section there. Might be ok if you're double crewed, but if you're on your own and need to change channels it's a bit on the risky side. I'm a radio amateur and considered putting my radio console there, but after trying it out for a day or two it just didn't gel, so I ended up putting it where the blue light panel is on this car, wish I could have one of those..! I do have the same design of PTT on the steering column for my hands-free microphone, though.

    • @johndory649
      @johndory649 10 месяцев назад +1

      Don’t need to access the radio unit, once turned on and booked into a call sign. Apart from rare instances where I imagine they’ll be stopping to change channels or getting their crew mate to do it. Radios also regularly go in the glove box.

    • @TestGearJunkie.
      @TestGearJunkie. 10 месяцев назад

      @@johndory649 It's sometimes necessary to change channels, and if you're in a pursuit while single crewed it's going to be impossible. I'm not a police officer I should hasten to add, but I do know a few through my work. As a radio amateur, I change channels quite often, so the console really needs to be accessible.

      @@imaner76 absolutely agree with you in terms of the rs6 being arguably the best for the job if money/budget wasn’t an issue.
      I’m no expert regarding the police budget, etc just sharing my humble thoughts. I think they factor in more than just the initial cost of the vehicle too. Sometimes they use these vehicles to ram someone. Don’t know if they’d be happy doing that with a 100k car or if Audi would subsidise knowing that this would be on the cards etc. I wonder within the police fleet how many get written off for reasons like this.
      I also imagine a sizeable difference in running costs between having a fleet of 4.0 V8’s compared to a fleet of 3.0 V6’s

      @@BenPearson1965 I have 150 hp on you, 700nm of torque, DSG, proper sport suspension, wide tires, and all wheel drive.
      4 second flat 0-60 and a 210-220 MPH top speed.
      And I know what you are going to say, experience, training, etc. Unlike most people I have had a lot of advanced driving training which includes category C, CE, and D endorsements on my licence, CPC, ADI training (Approved driving instructor), RoSPA certification, and ESDS training (Emergency services driver standard), the last of which I intend to continue and do the ESDS trainer course to become an ESDS instructor.
      That is to say, I have a full bookshelf of all the RSA and DVSA handbooks, including the Police drivers handbook to roadcraft; and know my cars capabilities, but more importantly its limits, inside out and backwards
      Your training is really good, having done something similar myself. However, trying to catch somebody who knows what they are doing, and is driving a car with significantly better performance and handling is going to be very difficult if not impossible even for the best trained drivers.
      With a car that hot the best thing to do is back off and wait until it runs out of fuel or stops (you can also try stinging it), because realistically you arent going to be able to safely put a box stop on it.
      Its a nice car, its quick, but not quick enough to catch the Audi. I'm pretty confident the only thing catching it is the helicopter or a spike strip 🤣

Add in several years of club racing and i now run a near 700hp XFR. I think the poor Stinger might struggle if i decided to drop the pedal, especially with the weight penalty all the police gear imposes. Not that i would of course but theoretically!

But unfortunately you have to abide by the rules and laws of the road, and tell that to all the RS6, SVRs, Evo 7’s, Ferrari and Lamborghinis, M140s we’ve caught as they’ve crashed at the first corner ha ha. Everyone’s all mouth until it happens then when we’re say 3 inch from your rear end at 100mph plus, the bottle soon goes.

      I suspect most of those types have absolutely no idea about 'feel' or feedback if you like from the tyres and suspension of a vehicle. Give any of them an old RS3100 and a wet roundabout you would be scraping them up! There are some of us who can pedal a motor and know how to make big HP 4 door motors 'pick their skirts up and run'! Theoretically of course. These modern ones with paddles respond very well to 'trail braking' them in while downshifting and then feeding as much power in as they will take as soon as you see the apex. My Jag if you are in the mood and disable the traction you can still have 3/4 of a twist of opposite on 100yrds from the apex (on a track of course)! Trouble is these toey motors have become cheap enough to get into the hands of those to young to know, and those who can afford them new generally have not had the experience to handle them.

    The Stinger is a great vehicle.
    But their is no need for the police to keep wasting taxpayers money. The do not need a high performance vehicle, when they have helicopters, to follow any one. Plus the uk has more cctv cameras than any other country in the world, an the police in this day and age will not investigate crime if it is not on cctv.
    So with cctv everywhere and a helicopter there is no need for them to have a high performance vehicle.
    Just a total waste of taxpayers money. Next the police will be saying they need more money, wait the police have already asked.
    He said county lines, the only we have an issue with county lines is because of the total lack of police on the beat in the community. This is a fact, yet the police still will not go back on the beat on foot in the communities.
