It definitely needs a makeover, even if you are just renting it. The First thing I would do is remove all the various trade names associated with this business, not only is it very confusing it also smacks of having different companies being involved; having one brand name, 'High Peak Autos', would solve all that. Personally, I think you have too many cars on site. It looks like a fire sale and doesn't invite people on to the forecourt, people like to look around cars and I think you have too many barriers up I.e walls with railings, a larger entrance on to the site would make it more inviting.
agree, if possible. maybe are shared business. Also, the three parking spots at the front in the main street could stay reserved to customers use, so they don't need to look for parking at the side or back.. , or like put one car 'on sale' there to pick attention and leave the two other spots always vacant
I agree, personally I would knock down all the walls and railings and just have parking posts installed, much more inviting. But I imagine Matt wants some sense of security with the walls.
I agree. 😂 To be perfectly honest, the High Street Autos RUclips videos far outclass the actual reality of seeing such a rundown car sales, with far too many cars crammed inside too small a space, and the buildings looking like they're run by Del Boy & Rodney. It was the polished performance of the in-car videos that brought most of us to the 'door' of this channel.
I'd remove the ceiling tiles and and fluorescents. Makes a higher ceiling and then add a more modern ceiling with strip lighting or just go with an industrial look with conduit and leds.
@@broken12367 You'd have to use fancy trunking and other things to make it look smart. It'll end up costing far more than replacing the ceiling tiles unfortunately.
I do believe one sign (possibly the one over the front door) should have the links to your social media, especially RUclips. To a potential customer that is not aware, they can check you out and see a clear behind the scene view of what goes on. This will give them confidence in your business and subscriptions to your channel. It really is a win win situation at minimal cost.
Never underestimate the power of social media. If you only have one place of presence, the garage, how might potential customers otherwise come across your business? Less, is less!
I think HPA does not need the clutter apart from the local folk who will know Matt and HPA Those of us on You Tube and all the rest know HPA, Matt tells us he got a call from someone in London or Glasgow so he has a wide spread of potential customers already, and with delivery now you can buy a car in Manchester and get it delivered to Inverness!
High Peak Autos is a great name! Be confident in it, it is you, you have created it. Nothing wrong with making you and your hard work a key visual part of the business and first impressions. I would ditch the other names and keep it all simpler and more eye catching. I don't think you ever need to do that much work or spend THAT much to make it a lot nicer and more inviting and tbh stylish... you're a pretty fashionable guy you takes pride in details so I do think the time has come! Good luck.
Definitely. If he wants to keep the volume of stock then it might be worth having a closed lot close by that he could keep his more low value/boring stock that only appears online. The lot here can be exclusively for the more premium and higher value head turners.
yes, you'd sell more by having an overspill car park nearby, where the budget cars are kept. You'd easily cover the extra rental cost in sales volume doing it that way.
Thanks for sharing the rebranding process. I agree about toning down the orange with grey or black. I also think the staff entrance should just say 'staff entrance' - no 'only'. Good luck with the project. I look forward to seeing how it goes
Colour is king. Why do you think Sainsbury's use orange? Black says Undertaker!! There is a science to colour appeal. You'll never find a black sign in a supermarket and they are the masters of getting you to look and part with your cash.
@@brianjones5535 depends what you are selling - there's a whole science to colour in marketing - eg more subdued colours generally imply 'quality' and 'premium' for consumer durables. Plus the High Peak logo lifts things with just a splash of colour.
Good one Matt. I bought a car from you about three years ago. Great car, great service, no problems. But I do remember your showroom being a bit “odd” and thinking for a guy who pays so much attention to his cars that somehow it wasn’t reflected in your showroom/offices. It took us a while to work out where the actual entrance was! Looking forward to seeing the finished building, then the inevitable comment “I’ve massively overspent” 😂
I drive past you several times a week. I've never even been tempted to even look at any of the cars because of the way the garage looks. A makeover is much needed.
That toying around with the desk is exactly what I like to see with every RUclips sponsor ad. Not just reciting a script, but rather using the product naturally and messing about.
First impressions count, and if you arrive at a place and can't find an entrance it can put buyers off before they start looking at your cars. I agree with Black instead of Grey, the High Peak logo will stand out far better. Looking forward to seeing the finished results when it will look proper posh.

Matt I’m surprised you don’t buy your own garage as I know you dabble in the property business, I’d just hate paying for an expensive makeover on someone else’s property it’s kind of dead money in my opinion.
Matt has an excellent business brain on him so he probably thinks the location and the passing traffic/footfall are worth paying rent for , plus of course his rent would be a tax deductible business expense whereas owning a property going up in value would be a tax liability
I liked the Orange, it stands out. Black is dreary if used too much in blocks but is the right colour for railings as its the easier colour to see through, anything else reflects light. Losing all the confusing names is a win. Just one company on show is the real professional look. I look forward to the upgrade and how much you have massively overspent.
I think as the original orange plan was overkill. It looked a bit cheap. As did all the social media tags and the youtube thing, very tacky. The black is a lot classier and makes the logo pop. I'd like to see some signs with some subtle orange and white lighting though, that would look very clean. Agree on the names though, looks a mess as it is. There's a business similar nearby to me, and it's pretty off putting feeling like you're walking into a showroom and not knowing who you will be dealing with or who is selling what. Dealers need to realise that to an average person, buying a car can be stressful and a bit intimidating. When it comes to car sales, the feeling of dealing with less people is king. Last thing somebody wants when making a large purchase is feeling like they might be set on by about 8 guys from 3 businesses the second they step foot near the place, purely because the branding makes it look like so many people are operating in a small area.
As an art director of 40 years....I'd advise that orange tends to say...down market... I had serious reservations over much of what i saw...Perhaps the last visual of the building...was going in the right direction.
When you change the reg plate on every car you sell I think the welcome sign as a reg plate is in keeping with your obsession with each car having a fresh reg plate fitted.
The big thing for me, and maybe it's a only me, but It is confusing if it's Romiley Motors or High Peak. I think your more well know now as High Peak Autos and as such. maybe it's right to change all of that?
I agree completely. As written "It is confusing if it's Romiley Motors or High Peak. I think your more well know now as High Peak Autos" as you have built such a good RUclips presence. Good luck.
Matt great to see how you are going about your site refurb. I would get rid of those old flood lights and frame completely, fixing a sign to it may just make a big sail that would increase the likelihood of them being blown over and crashing down on your stock.
The irony of the optometrist sign with the missing letters 😂 Your plans sound great, it'll look cool I'm sure Matt. Can't wait to see the finished project 😉
The Best way to view any changes compared to what you have already is this... Take your photos (printed out) and walk across the road and stand and look at you current setup... standing outside your garage is ok but people passing are usually either driving past or walking and like to view the whole place as one.. So walk across the road and stand in the middle of your plot and look again and visually place everything you decide to do so you get a really good view from where your customers see it. I did this for my college City and Guilds motor exams in 1981 and it was amazing how different it looks from a view that you don't normally see
A couple of suggestions if I may, under the mountain logo insert the word "autos", this will allow you to separate at a later date the company and also at the same time safeguard the each entity from possible financial obligations. As you grow, you could have "Highpeal Auttos", Highpeak Repairs" Highpeak Rental" Highpeak Merch".
I'd be dumping that advert on the wall for an Indian restaurant @£14.95. Maybe you should look at a high end BMW / Mercedes dealer to get an idea to refreshen the garage. Getting rid of all the orange has been much better.
Disagree. No point in making a dreary 'generic' looking garage. Orange is a strong colour, indeed, but used correctly (as highlights perhaps), it could leave a lasting impression
You should reposition the angled bars at the top of the light gantry in the forecourt to form a triangular shape. Then you can install a sign at the top with 3 faces to cover on coming traffic from all directions. With this type of illuminated sign, you can reduce the level of bling surrounding the building signage. Just an idea!
I completely agree with you, maybe you should buy their company, you have a good idea of what you want - it doesn't seem like he's been listening to you. Try looking in the direction of Audi showrooms, it's bright, modern and very "Nordic", that's what you want, and then you have to clean the tiles or replace the whole thing with asphalt
I like the central round sign with the orange. It’s really lovely as your main sign & would stand out. I preferred black on the other signs. Don’t think you should clad all your window at the back as a bit of natural light is good but may look odd leaving a bit of window. I liked the straight cladding but prefer it in the grey anthracite. It would be too much black if the cladding & the sign were black. I also think number & website should be on the signs that way which ever direction you go past it’s noticeable. I think somewhere between the two designs is great. Love the idea of the glass table with your logo & the orange carpet that splash of colour would brighten & define the area. Hope all your plans go well I’m sure whatever you pick will be amazing I’ve seen your properties & they all look very modern & smart. ❤
Hi from Singapore. There’s absolutely no chance for me to buy any of your cars but I have always enjoyed watching your videos. Great job! Anyway you have obviously outgrown this plot of land. 😂 Some Spatial Branding ideas for you to consider: (looking at the aerial view 6:06) I think for any customers to walk through all the cars to get to the entrance, it almost feels like they are trespassing. Perhaps you can consider having a turf walkway to lead them to the office, line it with some high peak flags on both sides. And then park all the cars facing the same direction to instantly freshen up the whole garage. Lastly you can’t control the colours of the cars you buy, BUT, if you can partially dress them all up with some high peak car covers, just simple white “high peak” against a black background, that can give you more control of the whole look. Cheers!
My advice for what it’s worth, I think its time for the now established business to move to a much larger site, with much more space, offices and storage, on site vehicle prep, which would consolidate the 2 sites into 1. At the moment it looks overcrowded with no where for customers to park
The perimeter wall could do with a pressure wash to freshen it up. Don't forget to add some indoor plants and wooden elements inside. It will make it look really premium and comfortable.
Best of luck with the new look at your car sales building. Maybe one day you may decide to try and buy the building or your success will result in you finding another venue that you will own. You are an inspiration to others. I look forward to seeing the finished look. 😃👍
Your logo is awesome! The idea of keeping it black and then keeping that logo in the center really highlights the logo and let everybody know that you are high peak autos. Great thoughts always on keeping it. Simple! High peak will definitely be one of my stops when my wife and I travel from our home near St. Louis Missouri to England. Looking forward to it and hopefully get a chance to meet you. Won't be able to bring over my L3 20 2010 Range Rover sport, but looking forward to seeing some of the cars you've rescued! Anyway, love the color scheme and keep highlighting that outstanding logo!
I've watched his videos a few times but had no idea what a dump the showroom is. It looks like a banger place selling £2000 sheds. If I turned up to spend £15,000 I'd take one look at the place and drive away. He's put too much energy into his RUclips channel and not enough into what's important. The channel has helped him sell cars and not the showroom. And having a separate office for admin and editing his videos say it all. You can't even open the doors on the cars to have a look 🤣
You could make the street elevation look more unified with some hit and miss timber set out horizontally or laser cut corten if you’re feeling flush. It might look even better with some matching gates at the staff entrance..if you backed it in a membrane or even painted the existing structure black the existing elevation would be less visible behind the hit and miss.
New look showroom sounds like it'll be very nice Matt. Not normally one to agree with an ad in a video, but I have a Flexispot E7 Pro with my own custom oak top and I love it. Super stable, quick motors and really strong. Spent ages choosing a sit-stand desk and glad I spent a bit more on one of these. Was really easy to fit my own top too, bit of measuring and careful drilling and it was all gravy.
I'm surprised you didn't like the reg plate......we all know you love a new set of reg plates! Lol 😂 .......nice quote to use " I overspend so you don't have to!" 😉....only kidding, looking forward to seeing the final product 🙂
Never really noticed the garage Matt, was more interested in the cars that you sell, much more important... That Merc 220CLS Shooting Brake I brought from yourselves in July is a running like a dream... Love it
Agree with some of the other comments. I would look for another site that is less cluttered. Yes a refresh and makeover is a short term fix, however within a year or two you’ll be back to where you are now.
I am rejuvenating an apartment building in Sandbanks, and you can put glass in place of railings. A regular wipe is a lot cheaper than painting them once, let alone regularly, and you can use the existing frame for security
Hello Matt, for sure put 2 lights on the pillars either side of the main gate, and a light above or 2 lights either side of your reception entrance to draw clients to the correct place.
Yeah old barns and hangers are very trendy right now if done up properly. I was in Ormskirk last week viewing a Porsche at a very very top end garage which I was surprised at as it was in Ormskirk😂

Yeah probably better to buy some land and just start fresh being in the middle of the town doesn't really matter in the modern age most dealerships are on the outskirts
Yeah, through YT etc ridiculous icome levels, we've effectively made Matt's actual car business his petty cash! He can definitely afford to buy some new plush premises especially as commercial property is in a bit of a slump right now.
It's something that many would think but there are definitely benefits of holding a lease. #1 you have predictable expenditure each year, #2 leases is much more flexible, if there was a sudden change in circumstances it's much easier to leave a lease than sell a commercial property #3 owning property comes with many risks in the commercial industry and they don't gain value in a linear manner, #4 accounting for property in the annual accounts can be painful. Just a few of my observations based on working in Finance as my day job
Bang on, Matt as clothing range, black with logos really classy looking, the more you stick on a sign the LESS people read, just the necessary is perfect, looking good! Can't wait to see it all come together as usual, well done! Young man! ❤
Hi Matt, I like Steve's ideas, they seem closer to what you have in mind and are subtle yet will be effective. I particularly like the inclusion of your existing branding. The black won't detract the customer's attention from the stock. From experience I've found vertical cladding gives a better sense of depth & stays clean much better than the horizontal alternative. Good luck with the upgrades!

Hi Matt although probably too late please consider your customers with limited mobility. Those using wheelchairs, mobility scooters and families with pushchairs etc.
Even though it looks crap you must get planning permission to change any visible external elevations. Signage is a separate planning permission.
They probably pay him to advertise there.
@@Charlienator3000 Showroom will end up looking like the side of a bus
You are not scared to take us on a very personal and important journey. I love it.
Oh dear, Dan kept mentioning 3d letters , we all know Matt hates 3d number plates ! Could be a compromise or two on the way ! 😂
tacky is the new ' premium '
16:46 this was my favourite moment of this. Matt's replies got less and less enthusiastic 😂
Thanks for your transparency as always.
why doesn't the landlord chip in? If you spend money on clad boards for signage and make sure it's removable and take it the next property if you move
I was waiting for this - definitely well worth the investment and I am excited to see what it turns into!
I visit my brother regularly who lives around the corner so I'll be eagerly waiting to see the new look! Well done Mat and team!
Some Spatial Branding ideas for you to consider: (looking at the aerial view 6:06) I think for any customers to walk through all the cars to get to the entrance, it almost feels like they are trespassing.
Came over to your garage a few months ago, these updates will look great. Don’t put ‘Finance Available’ though, put ‘Pay Monthly’, works better.
No it doesn't
The perimeter wall could do with a pressure wash to freshen it up. Don't forget to add some indoor plants and wooden elements inside. It will make it look really premium and comfortable.
You should make your gates bifold. They will take up a lot less room that way. Just 10p of input from Intelligent Fabrications, Nottingham 😉
Best of luck with the new look at your car sales building. Maybe one day you may decide to try and buy the building or your success will result in you finding another venue that you will own. You are an inspiration to others. I look forward to seeing the finished look. 😃👍
This is well overdue but I don't understand why you don't move elsewhere, it's clear that you need more space, your lot is incredibly cramped
It's good to see you moving forward my friend
Should include a strap line:
"Never knowingly overspent"
Or underspent!
Don’t forget to check any planning implications for your ideas. Cladding & lights & flags could all require it
New look showroom sounds like it'll be very nice Matt.
Lol 😂
.......nice quote to use " I overspend so you don't have to!" 😉....only kidding, looking forward to seeing the final product 🙂
Never really noticed the garage Matt, was more interested in the cars that you sell, much more important... That Merc 220CLS Shooting Brake I brought from yourselves in July is a running like a dream... Love it
Look for a bigger premises Matt good luck 🎉😊
It does look like a complete tip. Take a drive around Liverpool car showrooms and see how the professionals showcase their cars.
Steve's ideas have a better impact. Too much black makes it like an undertakers.
Hmmm, High Peak Caskets and Urns.....yeah I could see that!!!
@@brendandoherty2159 I bet Matt would even over spend on a casket....you just can't stop the bloke.
You won’t find many undertakers who actually use black as their main colour.
Agree with some of the other comments. I would look for another site that is less cluttered. Yes a refresh and makeover is a short term fix, however within a year or two you’ll be back to where you are now.
I can’t believe that even a desk nowadays has touchscreen
I even have sunglasses I need to charge 😂
I think it might be easier to find a new premises with a larger yard to display the vehicles better and more room to move between them 😊
I’m sure that’s a Paul Young cd lurking suspiciously in the background at the start!
Good advice here. I agree with all the comments.
Hope you do a history check on the building!!! Onwards and upwards!!!!
I am rejuvenating an apartment building in Sandbanks, and you can put glass in place of railings. A regular wipe is a lot cheaper than painting them once, let alone regularly, and you can use the existing frame for security
Best thing you could do Matt is move to Knutsford! 😂😂😂😂
I’d like to
Hello Matt, for sure put 2 lights on the pillars either side of the main gate, and a light above or 2 lights either side of your reception entrance to draw clients to the correct place.
didnt know it was that run down. the forecourt is a mess and too small. maybe look at another premises like CalvinsCarDiary did
Yeah old barns and hangers are very trendy right now if done up properly. I was in Ormskirk last week viewing a Porsche at a very very top end garage which I was surprised at as it was in Ormskirk😂
@@ashtonjay old barns and hangers tend to have little passing traffic.😉 High Peak Autos is a bread and butter type car dealer, not high end, 3 customers a week type gaff
The renovation is a great idea, it does look like it desperately needs it! First impressions do set the tone I think and a coffee table and chairs setup would be more welcoming/relaxing. Looking forward to seeing the finished article 🤩😀
Please do a tour of the cars at the mechanic
YES!!! It's an Extender!
Being a wheelchair user i dont think id ever be able to get in there to even see a car let alone buy one, looking forward to seeing what you do with the place

I think my parents bought my first car (Renault 5TL) from your location (before it was yours I guess!) 30 years ago. Seeing this video brings back incredibly fond memories. Looking forward to the transformation.
Wouldn't it be better to find new premises?.
Especially if the current place is rented. Just throwing money away in my opinion. I'm sure the landlord will be grateful for the investment though.
Yep this premises doesn't really match his obvious ambition level...maybe heart over head as it was in the family?
Young man! ❤
Gone are the days of a portacabin, a trilby and camel hair overcoat. Good for you Matt, look forward to seeing the new place and image.
The Mexican MR BOSS FTW
Hi Matt, I like Steve's ideas, they seem closer to what you have in mind and are subtle yet will be effective. I particularly like the inclusion of your existing branding. The black won't detract the customer's attention from the stock. From experience I've found vertical cladding gives a better sense of depth & stays clean much better than the horizontal alternative. Good luck with the upgrades!
Hi RUclips I’d just like to say eco boost engines suck 👍
Why? 🤔
Yeah they do
@@Sha-Ayo rubber and oil don’t mix well. Ford should have used a chain instead. Having said that I do have a lovely white ford focus for sale 2.5k 1.0 eco boost 😂😂😂😂😂😂

Hello Matt, I think your garage will look a lot better after the makeover. Thank you for taking the time to upload another video. Ged
Hi Matt although probably too late please consider your customers with limited mobility. Those using wheelchairs, mobility scooters and families with pushchairs etc.
Pushchairs aside, disabled people aren't coming here for a car!
Isn't disability access a legal requirement these days?
Horizontal boards but different widths on each row looks smart today, a bit more modern. Satin black always looks classy. Good job!!
"For the forecourt I'd like four glitter explosions, twelve puff flashes so the sequence should be puff, flash, puff, flash, bang."
Hot gurney all the brickwork clean as well. Include doing all the ground surrounds of the footpath where it looks dirty.
“I massively overspend so you don’t have to..” on a giant 3D gel numberplate. 😂😂
Looking forward to seeing this develop, I always bought my petrol from there back in the 1980’s..
Don't forget to apply for planning permission!
Is it needed to just replace signs? Or is it the new pedestrian entrance that requires planning permission?
What for? It's not like anyone would notice or check.
Even though it looks crap you must get planning permission to change any visible external elevations. Signage is a separate planning permission. Any structural construction will require building reg approval. Start by showing any proposed work to planning dept and get early advice and get them on side
@@mikegrimes6846 Oh yes! It can be very expensive if something is done that doesn't meet local planning guide lines. It can be very expensive to rip out the work that has just been done!!
