When James played in Toronto, they invited fans to the stage to sit down next to them during this song. Fans started streaming to the stage and joined them there. All were warmly welcomed. People helped each other up and somehow made room for everyone. It was a really beautiful, joyous event.
Listening to James will never be the same. Yesterday I lost a dear friend to cancer. James was his favourite band and he wore his hair like Tim when he was at uni in the early 90s. RIP my friend.

Saw a guy comment on this video years ago he caught his friend singing 'if I hadn't heard such Richards I could live with being Paul', best misheard lyric I've ever seen.
Great line. It's why people are risking their lives crossing the Mediterranean and English Channel in tiny dinghies. The age of the Internet has opened the eyes of the poor, even in their remote African and Asian villages, to the illusion of great riches elsewhere. They can no longer live with being poor.
@@bombousboy and it’s why the younger kids are suffering so much poor mental health these days I’m convinced. It’s overwhelming and they see too much too young. Absolutely agree about all the migrants. No wonder they’re desperate to live this perceived perfect life we all supposedly have. It’s so sad really. It’s all mostly an illusion as well.
@@angiepanjie Totally agree with seeing too much too young. Sadly however, in a world of near instant communication and a video camera readily available to most people, it is sadly inevitable. Comparatively to those migrants, even the poorest of our societies in the west live far better lives than they do. Not that that justifies illegal immigration, but it also highlights just how out of touch most people have become.
Ive heard this song a thousand times, by choice, and it always fits my situation. And it's always different, and always the same. James is such an outstanding band. Yes, I've been with them since the beginning. Yes I have changed. They have changed. But nothing ever changed. I will listen a thousand times more...
Pretty much explains the problem with Instagram and Facebook.... lives that would rarely have been shared or experienced, due to wealth barriers, are now fully on view to the world...and people feel that if they don't have what they know is possible, then they are unhappy or unsuccessful...
I have been a carer most of my life,,worked in theatre,,elderly care brain injury,,learning difficulties,,,this is my favourite song because,,,no explanation needed,,❤❤

"Those who feel the breath of sadness, sit down next to me. Those who feel they are touched by madness, sit down next to me. Those who find themselves ridiculous, sit down next to me" If I had to choose one song as the soundtrack to my early teenage years growing up in the UK it would be this. It still moves my heart and soul, each and every time I hear it. And as I age, it grows in depth and meaning.
The overture to Verdi's opera La Forza del Destino (specifically the diddly-diddly bit, if you want to get technical) is also a good handwashing soundtrack.
What a pleasure it would be to sit down next to somebody who wants to help you love yourself for who you are. I was a teenager in 1998 but I knew these words were important.
Its a classic that will be played everywhere for years to come. James were always a solid band ddspite experimenting and it shows. Think the old 90s Manchester days took a lot out of us back then. 😀
A unique anthmn for those who have always struggled to find a place in mainstream society and it's demands. A song for those who only see themselves as ridiculous. For those who carry trauma and experience mood swings from mental health difficulties and who just want to sit down in a peaceful place and connect i feel this song is for those. A rare song and treasured 💕💕💕.

Thats because that video was probably filmed in the early 90s. No mobile phones with cameras back then - which let you get immersed in the moment and enjoy life. :)
This is actually my favourite song of all time, more so than Lennon's Imagine and so many other great songs. I first heard it around the year 2000 on BBCs radio 1 while driving to work. To me it speaks of compassion in a world devoid of it, even more so now then ever "Those who feel the breath of sadness Sit down next to me Those who find they're touched by madness Sit down next to me Those who find themselves ridiculous Sit down next to me"
Watching United Home, Away, Europe, on the bus listening to James drinking from the George Best bar, halogen days my friends..... best days of my life.

Covid-19 is upon us. I hope it's gone soon. I really do. When it is, this is the song I will play when I'm with all my friends in a group again. 'Sit down next to me...'
December 2020 now, and you brought tears to my eyes with that. I just want to hug my friends. And I've had a reasonable amount of human contact through all this.

Cannot wait for the day i get to see my home town team play from the terraces again, as the players finish the warm up and this gets blasted around the stadium, the whole crowd starts singing their hearts out... it's oddly emotional just thinking about it. Be even better if we got to final again and these guys entertained us again with this classic. Never forget the atmosphere at the 2014 grand final when they performed. Brilliant memories and amazing hopes for the future. God this song will get your through owt!

I believe this wave will bear my weight
So let it flow

Sit down next to me
Sit down, down, down, down, down
In sympathy
I'm relieved to hear
That you've been to some far out places

When you feel all alone

If I hadn't seen such riches

Oh, sit down, oh, sit down, oh, sit down
Sit down next to me
Sit down, down, down, down, down
In sympathy
Those who feel the breath of sadness
Sit down next to me
Those who find they're touched by madness

This is actually my favourite song of all time, more so than Lennon's Imagine and so many other great songs. I first heard it around the year 2000 on BBCs radio 1 while driving to work. To me it speaks of compassion in a world devoid of it, even more so now then ever
"Those who feel the breath of sadness
Sit down next to me
Those who find they're touched by madness
Sit down next to me
Those who find themselves ridiculous
Sit down next to me"
Watching United Home, Away, Europe, on the bus listening to James drinking from the George Best bar, halogen days my friends..... best days of my life.
Heard this today, out when I was in my 20's just now just 60 timeless
This is the one song that reminds me of being a child, when life was easier, people we’re friendlier. The 80s were the best
Definitely!
A 100 percent. This song takes me back to that time each and every time I hear it. Just love the melody, the lyrics and ofcourse the unmistakable voice. A song so uplifting and so heart warming 💓
"Those who feel the breath of sadness..." Stay strong Manchester
When you get on to the lyrics and the meaning of them etc it makes this song even better etc etc
My youth tune, listening to times when we had the world in the palm of our hands
How am I just finding this. Thank you WYEP 91.3 public radio station in Pittsburgh for playing this💜
One of the most underrated and quality UK bands ever.
One of the greatest songs ever sang
Covid-19 is upon us. I hope it's gone soon. I really do. When it is, this is the song I will play when I'm with all my friends in a group again. 'Sit down next to me...'
I feel the same as you.
Couldn't have put it better myself. Take care of yourselves, everyone
I agree, and we will fight Covid19
December 2020 now, and you brought tears to my eyes with that. I just want to hug my friends. And I've had a reasonable amount of human contact through all this.
@@Fragrantbeard 🤗🤗 Hope this helps
I'll sing myself to sleep
A song from the darkest hour
Secrets I can't keep
Inside of the day
Swing from high to deep
Extremes of sweet and sour
Hope that God exists
I hope I pray
Drawn by the undertow
My life is out of control
I believe this wave will bear my weight
So let it flow
Oh sit down
Sit down next to me
Sit down, down (sit down), down (sit down), down (sit down), down (sit down)
In sympathy
What a great song,powerful vocals,very touching.
